Good news for Texas

Posted on: November 30, 2008 1:33 pm

The coaches poll is out and it has turned burnt orange.

Oklahoma remained No. 2 but Texas made up all but one of the 43 points it trailed the Sooners by coming into Saturday. OU now leads 1,397 points to 1,396. One point! Texas jumped over Florida into the No. 3 spot. That's a great sign for the Texas that the coaches are listening to Mack Brown's plea to pay attention to the head-to-head result.

Earlier, Oklahoma had an early advantage in the Sagarin rankings. The only one of the six computers to update its numbers on Sunday, Sagarin moved Oklahoma from No. 4 to No. 1 and moved Texas from No. 1 to No. 2.

The BCS standings will be released at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET

Good news for Texas

There needs to be a playoff system, fine. You've got a lot of excuses like playing shorthanded and dropping interceptions (which I don't understand as an argument in Texas' favor - "We would have won if we'd played better," works for just about any team that loses a game). Texas has no better argument that either OU or Tech would have if Texas had been good enough to stay ahead of OU in the BCS.

Good news for Texas

Texas only lost by a last second TD to a #5 team at their house. Texas was even played shorted handed and had the worst game they played all season and they barely lost, not including 2 dropped interceptions on that last drive, which would have ended this Big 12 problem. Baylor is a better team than what people think. Tech barely beat Baylor and TAMU.  Texas put a spanking on both of them and showed class by not running up the scores, and of course they beat OU by 10 points.  Simple math does not count in any rivalry game.  Its just a numbers game that looks good on paper and is just an easy answer for a flawed system. Florida will beat Bama, OU will beat Missouri, OU and Florida will play for the National Championship.  Texas will get screwed because of 6 freekn points.  Any other Bowl game does not matter. Texas deserves and shot at the national Championship but they are not going to get it.  There needs to be a playoff system, plain and simple.

Good news for Texas

This is certainly a black eye for the BCS. Even if somehow Texas won the argument, they could not justify playing for a chance at the NC while Texas Tech, a team with an identical record and who beat them head to head, has NO CHANCE to play in ANY BCS bowl. What sense does this make?

Good news for Texas

32pitch  said  :  "...It's still incredible that any coach would rank OU higher than UT, just makes no sense.  OU's performance last night was not stellar and certainly not deserving of a BCS championship opportunity..."

Your comments reek with soured-grape-envy!     But deep down in your gut, I think you know that OU is just as deserving as Texas is.....and for that matter, Texas Tech is just as deserving as Texas is.

You don't think 'its still incredible' for any coach to rank the Longhorns above Texas Tech, do you?    As for OU's performance against the Cowboys..... you're right, it wasn't 'stellar'.     BUT,  the Sooners' 20 point win at Stillwater was much more stellar than the Longhorns' performance against OKlahoma State,  (a 4 point victory at home in Austin).    Will you even admit that the Sooners' performance against Texas Tech was more 'stellar'  than the Longhorns' performance against the RedRaiders?

Good news for Texas

1. Better offense? What about October 11th?

2. I'll give you the road win. We only played one tough road game and lost. But I will take a better neutral site win.

3. Tech is #7 you guys are #2 and we beat you by ten and were 7 point dogs.

4. Hot? What does that mean? Give me a break! Because it's be an arguing point, does that make it right?

5. The BCS was supposed to eliminate the losing earlier than later in the season syndrome.

6. I'm sure OU new Cincy would win the Big East five years ago when they scheduled them and Texas new Arkansas was going to suck when we scheduled them. Non-conference schedule is a crap shoot. Even you would agree that Arkansas, on paper, was a more difficult non-conference opponent than Cincy. We also played Missouri this year which should cancen out the Cincy game. TCU is TCU. They beat the bad teams and lose to the good teams.

7. Good Luck!

Good news for Texas

Its about time to read something other than garbage from a Sooner Fan. Thanks for your opinion. It certainly would be nice to settle the debate on the field. I for one believe it should be settled on the field and not by a computor. I am a Longhorn fan and I also agree that the best two teams in the Nation are Texas-Oklahoma.

Good news for Texas

sorry texas i will have to hear it all week . i live in texas and work with a bunch of horn fans . but i think if florida beats bama by 20 or 30 points then there strength of scedual  will drop bad. and ou vs texas natinal title game .best 2 teams in college football and the big 12 is the best confrence. also i am a sooner fan and i think texas deserves to go just as much as ou. we can argue for years day and night but it wont help . we need a play off .

Good news for Texas

At the very least if you are going to have a league championship game, have the best two teams in the conference. Changes will be in order next year as the the Big 12 has learned a lesson here on their tie-breaker and championship game. College football fans would treat a league championship game between Oklahoma and Texas as  a super bowl and the networks could name their advertising price for the high caliber game. The Big 12 should be shining right now, instead they look like the governing body of a Pop Warner league.

Good news for Texas

Great for OU, I'm an OU grad born in Norman, but sucks for TX. Only positive about this is its another black eye for BCS, if this ESPN deal goes through there will not be  for 10 years for sure. TX fans hope for a late FG win by FLA ina sloppy boring game and maybe the BCS will give us a rematch........BOOMER
