Tommy Tuberville is out at Auburn

Tommy Tuberville is out at Auburn after 10 seasons. While it is not immediately clear if he was fired or resigned, the likeable coach will do just fine. He is owed $6 million in a buyout due in a couple of $3 million installments.

There are no jobs out there at the moment that seem to fit him. Tuberville was rumored to be interested in Clemson but that job just filled with interim coach Dabo Swinney.

The school hasn't waited around. Tubs has spoken to both AD Jay Jacobs and president Jay Gogue since Monday. It has contacted both Mike Leach and Bobby Petrino. Also, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp told the school no. Auburn may have contacted Steve Spurrier as well.

At this moment, Auburn's top choices seem to be Petrino and Georgia Tech's Paul Johnson. Petrino might be tough to pry loose from Arkansas. He apparently has a non-compete clause in his contract that could be expensive to get out of.

Russ Campbell, Petrino's agent, said he has not been contacted by Auburn and that his client is not a candidate "for any hypothetical opening" Auburn may have.

Also watch for Florida State's Jimbo Fisher to get a call. He has ties to the school.

It was not a smart decision by anyone involved in this. Tubs should give or be given at least another year to see if hes lost his touch. I hate to see Auburn lose, but we cant win them all. But since the decision has went public, I think Bobby Patrino would fit in at Auburn pretty good.......

That's the best post I've read all night. Well put. Tubberville deserves better than this.

I agree TT was a class act, but maybe it was time for a change.  As a season ticket holder it was almost unbearable to watch the self destruction week after week.   I had such high hopes for this years team, but that will be redirected to next year.  With that defense, if we would have had half an offense we would easily be 8 -4 , or even 9-3.   Just think if Auburn got some beasts like Texas Tech offensive linemen, watch out!!!

As an '89 Auburn grad, I too am sad at the news today of Coach T's dismissal.    During Tub's tenure we have excelled on the field, and have had very few off the field problems.    However,  the absolutely out of control administration and booster arrogance(illegal contact/plane flight with Petrino) is embarrassing.   We are a classy university that hasn't portrayed itself as such during Tommy's era.  It is ironic that our coach represented our university better than our university did.

As a Bama fan, I agree with what you said about Tuberville.  I wasn't crazy that he led Auburn to 6 victories in a row over Bama, but he was a class act.
