Brady Hoke to San Diego State

Brady Hoke is the new coach at San Diego State, CBSSports.com learned Sunday night.

The news leaked early in the evening after Ball State's season-ending banquet. Hoke parlayed a once-in-a-lifetime season in Muncie into a job full of potential on West Coast. For years, San Diego State has been a sleeping giant but couldn't find consistency. It wasn't that long ago that Marshall Faulk and Dan McGwire were starring for the Aztecs.

Playing in a pro town in a cavernous stadium has been a drawback but not not that the right coach can't overcome. Hoke is 34-38 in six seasons at Ball State. It is not clear if he will coach in the Cardinals' bowl game.

Offensive coordinator Stan Parrish, the architect of the high-powered offense, would logically be considered a candidate to replace Hoke. The former Kansas State head coach has both a national championship and Super Bowl ring.

"We're all kind of in limbo here," a member of the Ball State staff told CBSSports.com Sunday night.

It's been a good year for Trace Armstrong who placed two of his clients in nice jobs. Illinois offensive coordinator Mike Locksley took over New Mexico. Now Hoke is cashing at San Diego State.

Brady Hoke to San Diego State

Stupid comments from a person who didn't do any research before sending in his knee-jerk comments.  Facts are this.  Brady Hoke took over a program that was miserable and built it into a top twenty program.   He had to overcome tepid support from Ball State's president,  terrible facilities, and a lousy recruiting base in Indiana.  Ball State now has great players such as QB in Nate Davis, RB Lewis, TE Hill, and oh my god, they are black.   So I think he can recruit African -Americans.  The best candidate got the job, period.  Before spouting off such mindless drivel you should look up some facts.  Nitwit.

  1. I really don't understand this Hoke's choice.  Hoke goes from a mid-major school to another mid-major school.  Aren't  you as a coach supposed to progress upward?  This guy only has a 34-38 record at Ball State so I'm not sure how this will work out!

This is going to tear apart something good for Ball State. I believe that Hoke leaving will cause Nate Davis to make up his mind to go pro. This was a good run for the Cards, but I cannot see them being even close to as strong next year. Hoke may have just thrown BSU under the bus. Ball State will now have to continue to recruit without a head coach, both signing more commits and keeping the ones they already have. I understand why he left, but he should have waited until after the bowl game.

I don't see how this is a step forward or upward for either SDSU or for Hoke.

I hope it works out for SDSU and doesn't take long. The MWC doesn't need a school that bad because it looks bad having a team like that.
