This is a room where postgame press conferences are held at Texas. Somehow, someone awarded Texas the 2008 Big 12 title.

Texas officials have moved quickly to take down the notation. I would love to know how this thing got up on the wall. Someone in authority had to sign off on it, didn't they.

Anyway, the Longhorns will try hard to remove the asterisk in 2009.

To me the fact that Texas gets every player they want (practically) and still only has 1 Big 12 title and only 4 National titles is kind of embarrasing.  All that money and talent and such little results when basically all they have to do yer in and year out is beat OU.  Really A&M, Tech Arkansas and OSU are not powerhouses year ina nd year out whats the deal wronghorn fan?

Texas has exactly one (!, uno) more BCS win than OU.  So yeah, Texas has been killing the Holiday bowl.  Congrats.

And in reality, if it isn't THE BCS Bowl, you know, the NCG, then what is it?  A Bowl game.  That's all.

So LonghonsUnite, you just keep sining yourself to sleep with your recruiting lullabyes, your "BCS loss" happy dreams and what not.  When it all boils down, OU had 6 Big XII Championships to Texas' 2.  I hope those recruiting thoughts are helping you out!

Excuse, but Adrian Peterson wanted to go to Texas, he just chose OU for the better chance of winning the National Title...

That's the only explanation I can rattle off, but I would like to mention that while Texas has given up a helluvalot of big names, our programs rarely, if ever, suffered or falrtered from the lack of said names. Oklahoma has no doubt dominated the Big XII championship system, but they've lost to UT (despite our sorry lack of these "scraps") just as many times, if not more. Not to mention the unrivaled post-championship success that OU has experienced. All those BCS wins...

You can have our scraps. We don't and never will miss them.

Your jump to the big 12 titles is laughable at best, and seems to be where sooner fans take the topic regardless of the starting point.

You're right, Sooner fans do tend to jump to the Championship argument.

But my point remains, Mack owns the recruiting market, and bows only to USC.

And Texas fans jump to the recruiting argument.  If CFB was about getting a Top 10 in Rivals, Texas would be all over it.  BUT...

Oh, and Stoops has won as many Big Ones as Mack, if we are talking about National Championships.  If we are talking about Big XII Championships, then he's done better.  If we are talking about bowl games, well, then Mack has done better.  But, again, OU has played in 4 NCG this decade, more than any other team and 3 more than Texas.  And you have to play in it to win it.

Just a historical aside, there are several Hall of Fame coaches in different sports who went through spells like Stoops.  Wooden lost tons of games before becoming the Wizard of Westwood and Osborne had horrible luck before he turned it around.

Yes, Mack owns the begging.. I mean recruiting market.. He also earns the crybaby, coddling, banner flying, and holiday bowl market. Take away one season and one player, and Mack might be selling insurance in Austin. Let's not forget how even Longhorn fans were claiming he couldn't win the big one just a few years ago. Take your recruiting we will take our SHIPS, and our coaches who earn their championship bonuses. What a Whack A$$ program.

I would love to be the one cashing those bonus checks, so I could get those coaches arrested for "CHECK FRAUD"  Like the Texas program!

WOW! 2 things.

1) Only losers pay their coaches a bonus for not getting the job done.

2) Only losers critique spelling and grammar on message boards.

Sblodg78... you my friend are a loser! Your bonus check is in the mail.

cb sooner, this was an argument based on OU getting texas players, ie recruiting.  Your jump to the big 12 titles is laughable at best, and seems to be where sooner fans take the topic regardless of the starting point.  Fact, yes Mack has underachieved since he got here in 1998, and Stoops is better all season but cant win the big one.  I get it, and the arguments speak for themselves so there is no need to even address the obvious.  But my point remains, Mack owns the recruiting market, and bows only to USC.

How jaded your glasses must be! It was Mack Brown who was crying in the media, campaigning during the OU/OSU football game on national TV.

All your safety had to do was catch the damn football and none of this is even an issue. But he choked. I am not an OU fan, I am an OSU fan. But it would seem that even the recruits that are "scraps from the state of Texas and a few blue chips from Oklahoma" have pretty well dominated your chosen recruits at UT. Granted both schools have a national title in the last decade, but how many more has Texas played for?

Texas tech will be the step child again after their wonder year they had last year, This year OSU takes both OU and Texas down. This is the year of the Cowboys!

By the way, the recruit that was kicked off the team for rapping about guns was from the state of Alabama.

Listing all the Texas talent that OU fields is far from an impressive move.  Texas is one of the three hottest and largest recruiting grounds in the nation, with FL and California.

This argument for Texas superiority ALWAYS cracks me up.  Add to that the "TU is biigger and richer than OU" create the perfect storm for 'Horns fans.  Whenever they start feeling the pressure of matching up to OU's successes, they break out the "look how many Texas players are on the OU roster" argument.  My response, as always, is "Wow, look how many smart Texans there are, coming north to play championship ball!"

Of course, there is always this comeback.

With the money and players and facilities and, well, everything the Texas has over OU, why is it that Texas is perennially 2nd in the Big XII?  Seems like underachievers to me!

Oh, just so you know, in 2008, only 31% (8 of 26) of OU's starters were from Texas.  Only 20% of the 2000 NC team were Texans.  So, based on sheer numbers, OU doesn't rely completely on Texas for its stars.  Sam Bradford, anyone?
