Tebow's condition

The college football season hangs in the balance.

If you don't think so then you didn't see Tim Tebow throwing up on national television. You didn't see him lying motionless on the floor of Commonwealth Stadium.

Urban Meyer said he thought Tebow might have a concussion after being being hit by Kentucky defensive end Taylor Wyndham and then having his head whiplash off a teammate's leg. The only saving grace is that Florida has a bye next week prior to the Oct. 10 game at LSU.

But if this is a concussion, who knows about lasting effects. I warned about running Tebow too much in last week's Tennessee column. I understand he wasn't running on the play he got injured on. Still, is this the way you want the season to turn, Superman getting injured? Tebow arrived on a different plane with Joe Haden and Major Wright after becoming sick prior to the game. I was surprised he was so effective and how bad Florida beat Kentucky.

The question every Gator has to start asking is: Can Florida win at LSU with Jonathan Brantley?

Tebow's condition

Kharma came back to you! I don't have to worry about it, your boy is an a-hole and your florida is the most hated team out of fla not miami, you guys have turned into them. NOBODY LIKES FLA except for you fla fans and your players and fans are constantly saying stuff about ou so I don't care if you change your mind or not. You won't win the title this year!

bsp;   Dodd can you pull your lips off of toeblow and meyer the mouth long enough to write a story that doesnt include one of them. College Football has done great all my life. Are you really STUPID enough to think college football hangs on toeblows jock strap. You might hang on it, but the future of college football will be fine if he never plays another down of college football. The only people it will effect will be yourself, meyer the mouth, and all the gator fans trying to hang on his jock like monkeys on a cuke cake. The world wont end without him dodd. Plus if he was god like you people think he couldnt get hurt.

Tebow's condition

As a Texas fan, I'm a little worried about this.  All of the players in the running for the heisman last year have already been injured.  Maybe since Colt hasn't won yet, it won't effect him.

Tebow's condition

I say it couldn't happen to a better guy! A bunch of fla fans where I am were running their mouth laughing when bradford got hurt and now the chickens have come home to roost. Enjoy it, lsu will beat them at home if they are playing next week. No perfect season this year either. No soup for you. I think on the football field tebow is a jerk and the only thing that would have made it better was if smokey was standing over him after saying "you just got knocked the f#%k out lol :)). Have a nice day florida, miami, and fla. st!!!! Dude what is wrong with you ? I can understand that the people you've come into contact with were jack@zzes, but if you watch the sequence of photos, Tebow is a candidate for the Marc Buoniconti Foundation on this play.

This play reminded me so much of the Chris Weinke's broken neck vs UVA. He had to have spinal vertabrae fused.

Last season, he directed Florida State to a 12-0 record and the national championship, one seasonafter nearly being paralyzed from the neck down after taking a hit against Virginia on Nov. 7, 1998.

Doctors had to implant titanium cable in the base of Weinke's neck to fuse two damaged vertebrae. He lost nearly all strength in his throwing arm and suffered excruciating headaches. Scars remain from the halo brace that had been screwed into his head to stabilize his neck.

Tebow's condition

I believe they can still win at LSU as well, but I don't think it would be because John Brantley is a better passer, though.  Especially considering that the supposed "weak link" of the Gators is the receiving corps.  You would think that with the receiver being the weak spot, that you would want to rely on the running game and defense to win out, right?  Well, although Demps, Moody, and the other "backs" are talented (just glorified super speedy receivers if you ask me....while I do think all of those guys have the potential to be special players in the right system at the next level, ala Reggie Bush, I don't see ANY of them as a running back there, not even Moody), their power running game starts and ends with "Superman" himself.  Those guys running styles are predicated on the spread offense opening up HUGE running lanes, and allowing them to get into space, where they can do their thing and be most effective.  I'm not even going to pretend to claim to watch ALL of UF's games outside of the regularly nationally televised ones(UF/UT, UF/FSU, UF/UGA....the rest usually come on regionally, unless they're EXTREMELY good, like the last 3 years), but I think I do watch them enough, though.  And maybe a die-hard UF fan who can/does watch and/or go to all of their games can tell me different, but I can't remember the last time UF lined up on 3rd/4th and short and did anything with the ball that did not call Tebow's number(ala, bulldoze up the middle or fake the dive and throw that silly "jump pass"....sidenote: it might be silly looking, but it works!).  I'm not saying that the other backs CAN'T do it, but they probably do not have too much experience doing it, though.  Plus, as I stated earlier, none of them look like a back that you want to power up the middle with.

What did I mean by saying all that?  If the receiving corps is not good, then eventually teams will not respect the pass as much, and will start closing up those "wide lanes" that those 4x100 meter "backs" break through when they actually do run the ball, possibly rendering the running game ineffective.  And that would be against almost ANY good team in the country, and especially a good one in the SEC (and the last time I heard, Brantley is not a runner at all, let alone a runner who can make up for that like Tebow does).  And if the receivers can't get it done, then the Gators wouldn't have too much success in the passing game even if they found a loophole in the rules and were able to bring in Peyton Manning to QB for Tebow in 2 weeks vs. LSU, let alone Brantley (hey, Manning was 0-4 vs UF in college, so you know what they say....If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! LOL).  This is not a slam on Brantley, as I'm pretty sure he's as good, or at least almost as good, as advertised.  But, with a great completion percentage himself, it's not like Tebow is a slouch in the passing game, either.  He may not be "NFL pretty" with it (ala, passing mechanics up to Mel Kiper's or Todd McShay's "standards"), but he does get it done, though, and is a very consistant QB.  It's not like the receivers are making Randy Moss-like Highlight reel catches every play to make him look great, either.  He does put the ball on them, and put the ball where it needs to be.  But if they cannot get to that spot, run crisp routes, or consistantly catch the ball, then it really will not matter who is behind center.  The Gators will be in trouble on the offensive side of the ball.

Tebow's condition

I think we have a right to criticize him for claiming the entire football season is over without Tebow...

Tebow's condition

You obviously have no clue what columnists get paid to do.  I'll help you out.  They get paid to express their opinions, not act like they are in the press box.  Columns are opinion pieces.  They always have been.  If you don't like a certain writer's opinion, you don't have to.  You ust can't criticize him for having one.

Tebow's condition

Football is like that, the Tebow era will end sooner or later with this season. The backup QB is supposed to be a quality recruit. UF will be fine without Tebow. Godspeed on this type of injury and recovery for Tebow. But at the CFB level, we shouldn't see Tebow puking (flu) like McNabb in Jacksonville, FL, regular season or Super Bowl style. If the Gators and coaching staff can't step up with the talent they have, then they don't deserve their paychecks and scholarships. One has to question Urban Meyer's decisions. Flying Tebow and other infected players to Kentucky ? Retarded decision process ? States won't allow certain types of produce to go over state boundaries, yet the swine flu is exported state to state with little regard for a pandemic situation. If I were UK players, I'd be furious. Exposed to swine flu because Meyer is after a 3rd title. Now I have another question ? What happens when the student athletes go to class and subject and infect the general student bodies with the swine flu. This bothers me at work too, my co-workers bringing that into the work environment with little disregard for anyone else.

What exactly did Urban Meyer hope to gain ? In 2-3 weeks, treat the flu, it would be gone ? A week between UT & UK, the game vs UK and a bye week (that's 3 weeks before another big rivalry game), tell me UF isn't that stupid, or cheap with this on the line ? They beat UK with their backup QB. They have 13 days to get everyone healthier. but now they have a starting QB in the hospital.

Right now, you get an idea of what the difference is in Donovan McNabb and Tim Tebow is in terms of NFL vs College QB and what it takes to play thru illness and injury. Tebow is definitely not McNabb. And for further example, the Eagles aren't playing McNabb with a broken rib, if Reid doesn't do this with McNabb, what should Urban Meyer be doing with Tebow ? At first many of these jabs at Meyer I thought were over exaggerations. But after seeing this first hand, Meyer and CFB isn't much different from the NFL. Tebow wasn't far from being a Marc Buoniconti story tonight ?
