Bowden speaks Wednesday morning

Bobby Bowden reacted Wednesday morning to a statement from FSU president T.K. Wetherell. Wetherell said Bowden will be evaluated at the end of the season.

"I appreciate his support. I think he’s wise," Bowden said of Wetherell during the ACC coaches conference call. "I’m very thankful."

"This dad gum team is so close to being 5-0. It ain't like we’re getting crushed ... The last time I went through this I was in Blacksburg, West Virginia, 1974," he continued. "I was going through the same dad gum thing. My president and athletic director came in and said, 'Bobby we don’t care what they say, you’re the guy.'

That was actually in Morgantown, West Virginia when Bowden was at West Virginia.

"When the season’s over I’ll let them know if I want to come back," Bowden said. "You heard the expression if you listen to you’re critics you’ll be sitting up there with them? ...  If I was 40 years old I'd be shaking in my boots. Most of my career is behind me. What is concerning is, is it distractful for the team? I don't think it is.

"You'd like to go out on top. That's what's so disappointing to me. The season ain't over. Let's get the season over then see what happens."

Wetherell's statement:

"I have spoken with numerous fans, alumni, boosters, supporters and staff, and I will make a final report to the full Board of Trustees at the end of the year," Wetherall said. "Until then, FSU will concentrate on supporting our team and student-athletes in winning as many games as possible. Neither the university nor I will have further comment on this matter until then."

I agree. He'll never catch Paterno, even if he did get those wins reinstated his team is worst than Paterno's. But he does play in the softer ACC.
I think he's just putting his wins total ahead of the program itself. He's 79 for crying out loud...if those wins are not reinstated he should suck it up and realize he'll never catch JoePa. He'll have to play at least two more seasons of 12-0 football and have JoePa have nightmarish seasons to even catch up.

That's true about what game was his last in 1974, but Blacksburg still isn't in West Virginia, and they wouldn't have had that conversation there after they just won that game. He probably just got a little mixed up because he was worked up; but the most telling thing to me was his notion that FSU was close to being 5-0. What?! They're closer to being 1-4 than 5-0... they were losing to D-1AA Jax State with :35 left in the game at home, before Jax State shot itself in the foot and gave it away.

Bowden finished the 1974 season with a game at Va. Tech in Blacksburg and a 4-7 record. He probably had the chat he's referring to then.   So I think your assumption that he's totally senile is probably wrong.  As much as any Gator, I do think he's basically senile, but he remembers the good old days well. It is what play they called 15 minutes ago where he has the problem.

Dadgummit!! Bowden broke out back-to-back! Seriously, he needs to get this team together or let someone else do it. Forget about the damn record he and Paterno are shamelessly and openly chasing. How would Bowden feel about a player that is only out for his own stats? Right, not too good. Fix it or move on.

Disgusting.  Coach Bowden stopped caring about the good of the team long ago.  His only concerns are his hopeless pursuit of Paterno's record and generally keeping himself busy.  Time's up, Coach Bowden.  Get a job as a Wal-Mart greeter.
