Nickel and diming Urban Meyer

Mike Slive is for real. Well, his threat is for real.

The SEC commissioner wasn't playing around when he fined Urban Meyer $30,000 for a mild rebuke of officials. There is no truth to the rumor, though, Brandon Spikes escalated the fine to $60,000.

While this amounts to nothing more than a used Lexus for his kids, the fine is still significant for Meyer. It sends a clear message that Slive isn't fooling around. Just wondering why it took 50 hours from the time Meyer said, "That was a penalty, in my opinion," to the time the fine was handed down.

Batting next, Lane Kiffin. Can he keep his mouth shut?

You nailed it Gator John.  I now live in Tenn and that's all the vols can come up with.. wait until Tebow's gone, as if UF never won a game before Tebow.  As for the vols, in 3 decades, 1980 til now, the series reads.... UF 16 wins  UT 6.  No wonder they hate us so much.

Are you kidding?  UF has plenty of fans with or without any of your so called bandwagon jumpers.  Jealousy is such an ugly thing, but you wear it well orange1998.  Try this on for size...3 decades, that's 1980 forward, UF  16 UT 6.  No wonder you vols hate us so much, must be tough losing like that over 30 years.

No doubt, Tennesse was a great team prior to 1952. 2 titles since then. I thought Miami fans lived in the past but at least they only go back to the 80's. 4 titles in the time of leather helmets, 150 pound lineman, and lily white rosters. Florida has 2 in 3 years with a chance at another this year if Mike Slive deems our contributions to his retirement fund suitable. My point about the last 20 years is to counter prior posts that Florida football is just Tim Tebow. This team was finally out of the shadows of Alabama, UT, Georgia, and the rest of the league and they aren't going back. Maybe Kiffin brings the Vols back to where Fulmer had them 10 years ago but Florida hasn't disappeared in that time and they won't after everyone's favorite whipping boy graduates.

Actually orange, Petrino was the one that started it. But in following suit, the SEC, aka Slive, waited several days before reprimanding him. So I would guess that Kiffen and Petrino have some pretty big smirks on their faces after hearing about Meyers.

What a laugh. I am watcing Bosie St battle away once again on prime time with the Lousiana Techs of this world. They'd get handed their lunch i the SEC. I have been saying they could go 4-4 and maybe 6-2 in the SEC. That is a silly idea. They woudl be lucky to get 4-4. Maybe you re pulling for that juggernaut Iowa?

The fans are crying and whining and praying the Gators have 7 or 8 players not on the field. Maybe also a 1 loss crap team can get voted in over one of the big trhree SEC powers. Maybe they beat each other up and a one loss power gets to watch Boise St and Iowa play for the BCS. IS that what you all dream of.

THEN, you could all complain about the BCS.

Dodd,

The more I read your nickel and dime articles, the more I believe thats all your writing is worth. I am specifically talking about your targeting the Florida Gators, but overall, your reporting is garbage.  For the life of me, I do not understand why CBSsports hasnt terminated you. You offer nothing original and certainly nothing with any real insight. Unless you are a Gator fan, its popular to dislike the Gators because they are on top. I disliked Nebraska and USC when they were top dogs, but I didnt write about it every other day...plus I had a life. Gewt a clue and quit trying to befriend the rest of the nation...the only nation that truly matters anyways is the GATOR NATION!!!   LOSER.

Yes Gold. 20 years/76 years=.263 Which is just better than a quarter of the league's existance. 8 recognized SEC titles, best record in 1990 but on probation, two more SEC title game appearances, and this year's title game vs. Alabama/LSU. So here's some more math. That's 12 years in which they had a better conference record than UT, UGA, and the other three. 60% would be most, right? I would argue that's fairly dominant. And again not a losing season in there.

Who has been the best team in the SEC since 1990? This isn't debatable. Most wins, most appearances in the title game, most SEC titles, and most National Titles. What else do you need?
