If  Nu’Keese Richardson was looking to transfer out of Tennessee, he got his wish.

Division I-AA is going to look like heaven compared to prison.

By now you know that Richardson and two other Tennessee players were charged attempted armed robbery early Thursday morning. You also know that one of the alleged victims thinks it's no big deal. Hey, that's football in Tennessee.

It’s obvious that smarts were not a big part of Lane Kiffin’s first recruiting class. The three players had everything ahead of them and threw it all away. One of those charged, Mike Edwards, was coached by Ted Ginn Sr. in Cleveland. Ginn’s life has been dedicated to preparing inner city youth for a better life. This has to be a huge disappointment.

But Richardson is the name that will make headlines. He started the whole thing. Well, Kiffin started the whole thing accusing Urban Meyer of “cheating” to get Richardson out of Pahokee, Fla. Meyer didn’t cheat and, thankfully now, didn’t get Richardson.

A Tennessee football source told me earlier in the season that Richardson wasn’t getting on the field because he couldn’t be trusted yet. That was in reference to his football skills. There were rumblings that Richardson wanted to transfer.

It’s not going to be the type of transfer he thought. I can’t see any way these three don’t spend some time in prison. Kiffin surely has to kick them off the team soon, if not today.

In the short term, Tennessee will take a beating on the recruiting trail. There’s a chance that Kiffin’s first class has been gutted. We’ll see. As a whole, the Volunteers have overachieved this season. Now they’ve been betrayed by some knuckleheads.

Really? Won't hurt recruiting?
You don't think that coaches from other schools are going to be sitting at the kitchen table with a recruit's mother saying, "I will take care of your son if he plays for me.  We will keep him out of trouble, make him into a man, and get him an education....we are not like Tennesee."

This kind of negative recruiting happens all of the time and yes, player's mothers, fathers, and grandparents usually have some sway in which school their son picks.  If you don't think that other coaches will use this against the Vols, you share some of the mental characteristics as the Vol players who brought you so much good publicity today.  Unless you actually think Kiffin will get a lot of recruits by telling parents "Great news!! A number of guys I recruited are going to prison so there will be a lot of playing time for your son!!!"

I think that suspending all three until the investigation is complete would be prudent.  Certainly no 2 quarter suspension here. Janzen had a bright future, and if NuKeese could have kept out of trouble, he could have been something special.  Now neither will see anything come of this.  Dodd was right about the recruiting in the short term.  Edwards, while not recieving much playing time, was a link to Cleveland and Glennville HS, NuKeese was our in to Pahokee, though I think we should steer clear of them in the future, it seems like kids from that town can't stay out of trouble, and Janzen was an important link to Louisiana.  However, their assumed departures will free up some schollys that will go to kids who want to stay out of trouble.

kingfish- what is your problem?  What's wrong with the Marines?  Dodd is a Gator, but he hates on them pretty regularly.  And as far as the eye gouging, shut up and stop embarassing yourself.  Some of the hits on the football field would be felonious assault if they occurred off of the field.  Get over it.  I left 'vol' off of your name for a reason.  Don't embarass the Vol fans anymore and change your name.

Flagman-you just showed your Alabama colors

These 3 clowns are gone from Tennessee football program. If they played at Alabama, the press and police in  Alabama would have claimed a frame up and mistaken identity. Rememer Albert Means,Logan Young, school books, fishing trips? According to Alabama these words mean nothing.

kjlwfr-you should be in read mode only

I can see why you are a low # amateur. This post makes NO sense, has NO logical structure and you certainly cannot write. Kiffin will be at Tennessee until he wants to leave but a shorter time than it will take for you to learn to write and make sense.

The armed robber-athletes are being held on $19,000 bond. The girl driving the car is being held on $119,000 bond. Gotta love Tennessee's "law and order" mentality.

USMC-You must be an idiot

First, signing up for the Marines, second for being a Gator fan and now hammering Dodd. Dodd is a Florida graduate. He nevers says anything good about Tennessee. He has No way out here. Richardson was COMMITTED to Florida before signing with Tennessee. Florida  has its share of thugs-did Spikes poke anybody's eyes out this week. If he had not been playing football,he would have been charged with a felony-inflicting bodily injury. I hope you are not in Iraq-stay out of harm's way.You may get hurt. You are not smart enough to do so.

My guess is that Lame Kitten will stand behind these guys as much as he can. Not really poking fun at him for standing behind his players. They made a stupid mistake and they will need him in their corner until this gets sorted out through the process. I doubt they do any prison time unless there are prior arrests that we don't know about. Of course I don't know the laws in Tennessee, so they might serve time. The other reason Lame will stand behind New Keys is that he was one of the two jewels of the class. He will not want New Keys to get dissapointed with Lame and the staff. He might actually give the NCAA the real details of his recruiting.

The real irony is the remarks made by Lame about the arrest record being clean for 11 months. Knowing his track record that probably was another back handed swipe at Meyer and the Gators and Richt and the Dawgs. He has to feel like he just can't catch a break. He opens his mouth and something bad happens. You would think he would learn to just stay quiet and let the play on the field speak for itself, which has been better lately.

This won't be the last we hear from Lame's first class, that's just my prediction and most of it will be good, but a lot of it is going to go downhill from here. When the guys have the background many of the athletes have at all schools it is a testimony to the hard work the coaches, academic staffs, and many of the players put in to stay out of trouble during their collegiate careers.

I'm sure that some penalty will be imposed, but I doubt if it will go as far as doing any jail time.  More than likely they will be allowed to go through the system, receive probation and community service, and be suspended from the team with an opportunity to "earn" their way back on the squad next spring and fall.  Was this stupid?  Yes.  Have similar occurrences happened at other schools?  Yes.  Will the school/coach deliver a message (however hollow) of the seriousness of the charges?  Without a doubt.  Regardless, they will be back on the team in the future.  Mark my word.

Just move quick Lane, no mercy and no, let's see how this plays out. Us UT fans all like Kiff, but now's where we find out what type of coach we really have. I really likes Janzen. Just think of what his coach/father is thinking right now. Suspend them now indefinitely and don't wait to hear their side. This is big time. Somehow, this has Nu Keese all over it, and the the others justt followed suit...and now they all pay for stupidity. Robbing college students on the strip, just what kind of cash were they expecting to get!!!
