Brian Kelly addresses Notre Dame connection

It wasn't much but Cincinnati's Brian Kelly spoke about the swirling rumors that he is headed to Notre Dame sooner rather than later.

"As far as the rumors go, our kids don't pay much at because I don’t," Kelly said on Monday's Big East conference call. "We’re humble that our names would be associated with programs. Our kids have become immune to it."

A lot of you probably noticed that Kelly didn't say the words: "I'm not going to Notre Dame." Of course, what does that mean when Nick Saban said the same thing about Alabama?

Brian Kelly addresses Notre Dame connection

This reminds me ALOT of Rich Rodriguez's dilemma. He could go to the big name program in Michigan, and try and make an even bigger name for himself, while also getting $2M more per year......or stay at WVA for less cash and rule over the "lesser" Big East, and annually go to BCS games. RichRod took the gamble, and now might find himself out of a job at year's end. Kelly would be much better off staying at Cincinnati. The Big East has BCS ties, and Kelly would have only 1 or 2 teams to compete with for the title every year. We've all seen how hard it is for a ND coach to avoid criticism, much less keep his job. Why leave such when you got such a great thing going for you? Stay put Brian!

I would rather have him as a head coach he is 2-1 against USC and has them fighting for a rose bowl bid this year.  Both would be good selections, but I would look at both of them.  Thats all Im saying.

If you were Brian Kelly, would you want to leave Cincinnati for Notre Dame?
It's not just about money, Kelly goes to Notre Dame, doesn't win a BCS bowl in his four years, and he's gone.
He's got four years worth of ND money, and no job.

He stays here, he's got all the talent he wants, a program that will do whatever he wants, and eventually a statue of himself above the south endzone.

Notre Dame is in a precarious situation.  They would have to pay Buffet Boy $18M (in hot dogs) to leave the program.  Not that Notre Dame doesn't have very deep pockets but it's sure steep to think that especially since they'll have to pay the Kelly or even Skip Holtz (tell me you didn't think of him yet) about $3-$4m a year just because it is Notre Dame.  They have so much talent on offense and so many holes on defense that it's aggravating to watch.  Suffer for another year in South Bend or cut ties now when they can go get the hottest coach in college football right now?

Way to take a shot at Nick Saban for no reason. Every hot coach has to lie to protect his current team's best interests. If Kelly leaves, he leaves. Cincinnati will be better off for having had him there.
