It was the weekend to abuse bad defenses. Colt McCoy turned the quarterback draw into Texas’ biggest weapon. Toby Gerhart used his arm to help beat Notre Dame. That left Tim Tebow and his five touchdowns lagging behind in third place

1. Colt McCoy, Texas: Moves up to No. 1 because without him Texas would have lost to Texas A&M. Four touchdowns passing, one rushing and almost 500 yards in total offense. Texas stared into the abyss. Colt pulled it back.

2. Toby Gerhart, Stanford: The kid taking 21 units this semester – 21! – got some national TV love against Notre Dame. Charlie’s angels – they certainly weren’t demons – allowed Gerhart 205 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He also threw for a score.

3. Tim Tebow, Florida: It’s a fairly tight race when Superman throws for three and runs for two and ends up only third. Were those camera phones going off in the end zone during his final series at home? Yes, they were.

4. Kellen Moore, Boise State: The poor guy has been forgotten all year. All five of his touchdowns were needed in an 11-point victory against Nevada. The best thing: Boise is all but in the BCS.

5. Danario Alexander, Missouri: Slowly and quietly, Alexander has become the best receiver in the country. So slow that he isn't a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award. Against Kansas he caught 15 balls for 233 yards. That was the third time in four games Alexander has surpassed 200 yards. Prior to that, Missouri had three 200-yard games by a receiver in its history.

I don't think Bama will have to worry about either.  Maybe that way Nick can concentrate on not get blow out in the Sugar Bowl again and embarrasing the SEC.

My top 10 ranking (in order) for best player this year.  Not best player on one of the best teams.  Best College player:

Toby Gerhart
CJ Spiller
Case Keenum
Golden Tate
Jimmy Clausen
Marty Giylard
Tony Pike
Kellen Moore
Colt McCoy
Danario Alexander

11: Timmy T

Remove any of the above (with the exception of Tebow) and their teams lose 1 maybe 2 more games.  In Gerhart and Stanford's case prolly 5 more.

Why isn't anyone giving any love to CJ Spiller.  Dude is a threat to score on every kickoff.  Rushed for nearly 1,000 yds and almost 500 receiving yards.  Scored 16 TD's and even threw for one.  Led his team to the ACC championship game.  He personifies the best all around college football player.  Should he with the Heisman prolly not but he should be invited to NYC and take in the spectacle.  Im no Clemson fan just enjoy great all around football players.

The Heisman goes to the best player in the nation. McCoy and Tebow aren't that talented because they have two of he best offensive lines in the country. It decieves people, yes they happen to have speed and can throw. I'm pretty sure Case Keenum, Kellen Moore, and Toby Gerhart don't have offensive lines like that. What is Colt McCoy's favorite pass? The guy throws screens all day, any high school player could do that. Tebow's numbers have went downhill over the last few seasons, part because of new/other talent being there. Ingram just doesn't compare to Gerhart in my opinion. Gerhart is a true back, thunder and lightning all in one. The SEC is so overrated, sure it's easy to be bowl eligible playing tune up games when its November. I like Gerhart in Moore in a close battle, Keenum's passed for nearly 5,000 yards yet Moore's thrown 3 INT's. Kellen Moore could have the highest passer rating in history. Thosse three men are the most deserving, and their teams would not be contenders without them. Moore's brought Boise to undefeated and a potential BCS bowl, Gerhart is Stanford's offense, and Keenum is putting up absurd numbers. These guys made these teams, anyone can quarterback in the SEC because of surrounding talent. Unfortunately Gerhart will not win the Heisman because it has to go to a "franchise quarterback". Case, Kellen, and Toby you have my vote because you are the best at what you do and your contributions to your team are numerous.

Latest Heisman Watch the fact that Dodd puts a Missouri player in the Heisman talk. HOMER!

Masoli and James of the Ducks are above him. Best receiver in the country? Right. I guess that's given to the Big 12 no matter what.

Hopefully Mark Ingram won't have to worry about the Heisman Trophy distraction. If you look back at the history of the Heisman Trophy winners... It usually has an affect on the team that wins the Heisman Trophy loses the National Championship game. I think it does play a part in being a distraction for a football team... I'd rather have a National Championship than a player with a Heisman TrophyAs long as an SEC team doesn't get that NC....then cool. I'm a fan of teams actually deserving an NC bid...should be Cinci vs Texas.

I'm sure you haven't even seen one Missouri game this year.  I've watched Missouri and Notre Dame this year...both are great receivers.  Alexander is right there with Tate if not better.  More receiving yards and catches.

Sure alot of tebow haters out there....obviously you havent been watching if you think mccoy isnt getting as much love from the media during texas games as tebow gets during florida's. Tebow has 30 td's this year, and running an offense without l murphy and the nfl rookie of the year in harvin. not too shabby...and for all those mccoy lovers out there, lets not forget some of those turds he laid during the middle of the season. if it were up to me, id invite tebow, mccoy, gerhart, and moore....and give the thing to gerhart. he's been the most consistant in a solid conference. if florida takes the national championship, that will be enough for tebow, the gators. and their fans.

Given that the boy has the name Colt Mc Coy and plays for Texas is one up on anyone. Who cou;ld have wrote a better script?

The defenses he is playing are plain awful. Oklahoma killed OSU 27 to 0. Kansas has now lost 7 in a row. Texas A&M defense was rated the 11th worst in the "Country" going into that game. They had given up 60 plus twice before Mc Coy got his turn. Missouri is even worse.

You cannot ask for an easier heisman. The top two yeams you faced you beat with their stars for years. This year Mc Coy beat all those teams without their stars. Some gone to the NFL and Canada. Some suspended and hurt.

Tebow and Ingram face each other. Mc Coy plays the awful North division. He could not have gotten a better last four games if he drew it up. The numbers and how terrible the conference is only helps his stats. and his climb after an awful showing against the only defense he has faced.

He should win it! Bradford did. Tebow has. Why not Colt?

You hopes of winning the National title will be much harder. It will be the beat defense he has ever seen. His defense gave up 39 to Texas A&M. They had no running game. Their QB could throw. Florida and Alabama have better offenses and their third string defense would out perform the Aggie starters.

The last task for Texas is no one knows your defensive coache's defenses better than the SEC. He was a Georgia Bulldog and Auburn's coach.

It should be a great game. The Heisman is his to lose,

  • the most overrated is INgram he only feast on the smaller schools or the team would not have had to win a few games with field goals only. Tebow is the best example of a human being that has ever played the college game. He could leave with 3 championships and will be a NFL hall of Famer, just because of his attitude and work ethic. He will get the job done!!!
