BCS bowl lineup and my top five

If form holds – and that means Texas finishing No. 2 in the BCS – this is how the BCS bowls will shake out tonight …

BCS title game – Texas vs. Alabama
Comment:  Got to think Bama will be almost a prohibitive favorite but Texas wasn’t supposed to beat USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl either.

Fiesta Bowl – TCU vs. Boise State
Comment: Fiesta is always thinking out of the box. It becomes the first BCS bowl to match two undefeated non-BCS schools. Should be a ratings winner.

Orange Bowl – Iowa vs. Georgia Tech
Comment:  Pasty Iowans will overrun South Florida and come away schooled in the ways of the option offense.

Sugar – Florida vs. Cincinnati
Comment: Alabama didn’t want to be here last year. Will Florida coming off an SEC title game loss? Also, who coaches the Bearcats with Brian Kelly headed to Notre Dame?

Rose – Oregon vs. Ohio State*
Comment:  Might be the best game of the bunch. Chip Kelly’s wide open Quack Attack against Ohio State’s old-style defense.

*--locked in

Here is my final regular-season top five. You can see the entire top 25 later Sunday:
1.Alabama
2. TCU
3. Texas
4. Cincinnati
5. Florida

BCS bowl lineup and my top five

Boise St vs TCU is a stupid idea>

1) they played in a bowl last year

2) the whole story is to see if they can beat the BCS teams! If they play each other ...whats the point?

3) the ratings will be better to see if boise or tcu can beat florida or iowa or gtech

Let the Fiesta go back to its roots

The Fiesta Bowl was created, in the beginning, to give a bowl home to the small, non-major teams in the West who were not getting invited to the major bowls.  If they do have TCU and Boise State, both pretty good teams, the bowl will be headed right back to its beginnings.

I predict two things if that's what the Fiesta does.  First, the bowl will have by far the fewest viewers of any of the BCS bowls which will give advertisers second thoughts about spending big bucks with them.  Second, within a very few short years the Cotton Bowl, playing in Jerry Jones' new Dallas Cowboys Stadium, will be the home of the BCS bowl in this area.

The way I understand it at least Arizona State was in a non-major conference at that time, maybe the WAC.  Let the Fiesta go back to its roots!  The Cotton Bowl is less than a six-hour drive for at least half of the Big-12 teams and it is a showplace.

It would even be handy for the folks who make Tostitos, Frito-Lay North America (
FLNA is headquartered in , , a suburb of ).  It would be about a 30 minute drive over to the game, if they catch the traffic right.

In his defense on the comments about Iowa fans, he said pasty, as in not tan (where in South Florida at the Orange Bowl people would typically be tan), not patsy.

Pasty Iowans? How incredibly racist.

My top 5

1. Alabama

2. TCU

3.Texas

4. Cincy

5. Boise State

Some observtions on the top 5....

Florida was exposed in the thumping they took on Saturday. They're a very good team, but not a dominant one. Alabama toyed with them and shoved the ball down-their throat. I hope they beat Texas who got every break from the officials to win that game. Bo Pelini outcoached Mack Brown and they deserved the win. Too bad the officiating took it away.

IMHO, TCU has been the best all-around team all year. They play great defense and swarm. Their offense is always in motion and they can run or pass. Dalton is a terrific QB who like their offense can beat you with his arms and his legs. They're also the smartest team I've seen as well and the most disciplined. They'd beat Texas hands-down and IMHO Alabama too(though much closer).

Cincy is explosive. They have a top QB in Pike and great receivers in Gilyard and Binns. Pead can run the ball and catch it out of the backfield. They also have a good line and effective back-up QB who they can bring in as a change-of-pace. They're well-coached too. Their problem is since the UConn game, their defense has been a sieve. This will cost them against more high quality teams not residing in the Big East. The Big East has good competition in Pitt and W.Va, but is not as strong as in past years. I think they'll be exposed if they play an athletic team like Florida and a motivated Tebow wanting to end his career on a high note. Though Florida is far from great, their defense is solid and their offense has enough to beat Cincy.

Boise State is 5th in my view because they went 13-0 and beat a top team in Oregon. They deserve to be ranked ahead of a 1-loss Florida team who was humiliated yesterday. I think TCU will beat them, like they did last year, only by more than a point. Boise State is good, but put them in the MWC and they'd have 1-2 losses easily. Their conference is a flat-out joke and that should be held against them.

Lastly, please get an 8-team playoff system going. The above 5, Florida, Oregon and Ohio State would be in this year. Using the probable BCS final standings,  these would be the games...

Alabama-Ohio. State

Texas- Oregon

TCU- Florida

Cincy-Boise St

That's probably as good as it gets. Then those 4 go on to the Final 4, followed by the championship a week later. The players, coaches and most of all fans would win. The bowls can be utilized for the Quarters-Semis and Finals. That's 6 bowls, plus the championship game. Use the Sugar, Orange, Rose and Fiesta for the quarter-finals. Then you have a straight out Final 4 in a designated city each year, like basketball does. Play the quarter- finals on Jan 1. All of the other bowls would be played by then. Jan 1st would once-again be not only interesting, but important as it pertains to the championship. Now, all the games are essentuially meaningless as far the title goes. With this formula, they're all meaningful. You play the semi-finals either the next week or 2nd Saturday(it depends when Jan 1 falls), then the championship the next Saturday. Imagine 2 Saturday night playoff games and one on Saturday afternoon? Awesome!

Those are my thoughts. Lastly, Dodd is a dud and should be replaced by someone who knows the sport and how to write. He's a disgrace to sports and college football in general. It sickens me he covers this great sport for this web site which I like the best of the major ones. He should go to ESPN where they know nothing about sports.

Forget the names on jersey, just look at who they played and see which 2 you would put in title game. Also included is if they beat them at home or away (harder to win on road).

Which 2 teams would you put in soley based on on the field performance?

BCS bowl lineup and my top five

Supposedly Stoops said he was staying of course we all know they usually lie. Don't be surprised if Alabama wins Saban might go to Notre Dame, the reason? another challenge and another national championship.

I don't want to see Boise St. and TCU play each other. Thats like putting them at the kids table. Lets see if they can play with the big boys.
