BCS bowl lineup and my top five

Posted on: December 6, 2009 8:35 am

If form holds – and that means Texas finishing No. 2 in the BCS – this is how the BCS bowls will shake out tonight …

BCS title game – Texas vs. Alabama
Comment:  Got to think Bama will be almost a prohibitive favorite but Texas wasn’t supposed to beat USC in the 2006 Rose Bowl either.

Fiesta Bowl – TCU vs. Boise State
Comment: Fiesta is always thinking out of the box. It becomes the first BCS bowl to match two undefeated non-BCS schools. Should be a ratings winner.

Orange Bowl – Iowa vs. Georgia Tech
Comment:  Pasty Iowans will overrun South Florida and come away schooled in the ways of the option offense.

Sugar – Florida vs. Cincinnati
Comment: Alabama didn’t want to be here last year. Will Florida coming off an SEC title game loss? Also, who coaches the Bearcats with Brian Kelly headed to Notre Dame?

Rose – Oregon vs. Ohio State*
Comment:  Might be the best game of the bunch. Chip Kelly’s wide open Quack Attack against Ohio State’s old-style defense.

*--locked in

Here is my final regular-season top five. You can see the entire top 25 later Sunday:
2. TCU
3. Texas
4. Cincinnati
5. Florida

Stoops isn't going either.  Randy Edsall or Skip Holtz will be the next head coach.  By the way Dodd... Kelly will be signing a contract extension this week... ever heard of research?

If Nebraski doesn't kick the ball out of bounds they WIN and Texas is out.  It is abou time the BCS stops giving all the credit to the preseason favorites.  TCU has blown everyone out and deserves to meet Alabama.

I feel bad for Cin and Boise State this year.

I'm a Maryland fan so have to deep roots to TCU - I'm just sick of watching year after year the privileged going to the BCS on name alone.  Boise State and Utah earned TCU's right to play!!!!

I guess their fans should start calling it the national championship game. Then they could say 'if anyone questions that we are the champions we would be glad to play them."

I totally agree. I think the BCS is doing this just to not risk two BCS schools losing to two non-BCS schools.

But if the BCS invitations go out that way, then what choice will either TCU or Boise St. have? One of them decline the invitation and not go to a BCS bowl? The whole situation sucks.

Actually he said pasty, as in really white. I do agree with you, regarding Dodd sucking. If the BCS folks send Iowa over Penn State (like they should) the Hawkeyes will represent the Big 10 nicely!

So the argument by the AQ schools about TCU and Boise is they don't play schools of our caliber and the only way you can play in the BCS bowls is to go undefeated. Then two schools do it in the same year and what is the BCS response? Have them play each other. The BCS could have shut up the yappers by both teams having to compete against the superior teams of the AQ conferences. This was pure CYA on their part. Limit the damage done to the prestige of the so called elite conferences.
These teams with a fraction of the budget and recruiting talent have shown the ability to beat the "bigger is better boys." They could not afford for TCU and Boise to make the point any clearer. Now they will still be able to say "but they have not played anybody." This was the chance for the fan to be able to gauge the mid-majors against the big boys. Whoever wins the game will have won a tarnished trophy. Look for people like Dodd, who have an exalted opinion of their own opinion, to downplay which ever team wins. We will NEVER know how good that team actually was.
This is with out a doubt the most cowardly move by the good ole boys in my lifetime. They have just screamed to anyone with ears that they are afraid of the mid-majors and do not want to compete on a neutral field with them. Last point, if Boise loses and Oregon wins, how many "Dodds" will vault Oregon over Boise in the final poll for beating Ohio State?

Brother, he called Iowans PASTY not PATSY.  As in light colored skin compared to the Floridians who are out in the Sun all the time.

From a fellow Iowan............sorry to say that Dodd called us PASTY (ghostly white), not a PATSY.  Nice rant though.
