I'm told at least a portion of the Cincinnati staff believe that Brian Kelly is leaving for Notre Dame.

Kelly said earlier this week that his fiuture should be finalized by Saturday and that he could not commit to coaching in the Sugar Bowl. The only hold-up might be the vetting process. Notre Dame hired the Parker search firm in Atlanta to sift through candidates. If you've been reading me, you know there is at least one issue in Kelly's background.

Nice rebound for Chicago journalism here. Chicago outlets were all over the map on Saturday with ND speculation -- most of it erroneous. This report seems more level-headed. Kelly could take the job as early as Friday after the Cincinnati banquet on Thursday night.

People keep asking me, if not Kelly then who? Really, the candidates are dwindling with Harbaugh out. I don't think Randy Edsall is going anywhere.

I will be short.  If BK leaves for ND and leaves UC high and dry for the Sugar Bowl,  I would consider that a slap to UC's face, an insult to his team and the biggest chicken (bleep) move of the century

Pete is soooo happy at Boise. He's not a money guy and values the quality of life where he's at. It's a great town where he will never feel any pressure. He's underpaid by national standards but that doesn't seem to matter. I'm sure he's looking at Dan Hawkins going, "Do I really want to leave."

Sometimes the grass isn't always greener.

Brian Kelly has done wonders everywhere he has been... but he is offensive-minded.  Kinda like Charlie without the inflated ego.  Kelly certainly looks good to ND because of his success, but look at Cincy.  Great offense, but a fair at best defense.  ND will continue to put up 30 points a game, but until they find a coach that emphasizes consistency on both sides of the ball, they won't be a national threat.

What do you think about Chris Peterson and his chances of moving up to a big-time program soon? I know he's a WAC coach but 48-4 with three undefeated regular seasons in four years in no joke. It does seem like there aren't that many solid candidates this year, but I think he's a least worth a look. I doubt that Notre Dame will contact him, but what about a big-ten program like Michigan or Illinois next year? He seems to have proved everything that he possibly could in the WAC and I think it's time for him to move on. Also, remember that Urban Meyer went from Utah to Florida... I'm just saying.
