On to the next name at Tennessee

Several outlets are reporting that Will Muschamp is staying at Texas, although we haven't heard from the man himself.

Speculation now turns to Air Force coach Troy Calhoun whose name came up after Phil Fulmer left. Calhoun has NFL experience and has kept the Falcons competitive in the Mountain West even with the emergence of Utah, BYU and TCU. Rest easy Vol fans, Calhoun won't be running the option (much) if he comes to Rocky Top.

Sorry but if this is true, this is a rush hire by Hamilton and he needs to be fired, today.

Update for Vol coach

It's being reported Troy Calhoun has called a team meeting for later Thursday afternoon. No word on the reason for the meeting, but you have to wonder why it would be reported that Air Force is holding a team meeting unless Calhoun is planning on leaving.
And for you UT fans worried about getting a coach from a service academy: Calhoun has an NFL background, being OC for Houston before taking the Air Force job. He lit up the scoreboard as OC at Ohio U in a non-option offense. So he has pro experience and probably will be the disciplinarian Vol fans seem to want. Can he recruit and/or save the recruiting class? That remains to be seen, but on the surface it sounds like he could make UT competitive again within three years, max.

Reports are that Air Force is having a team meeting this afternoon after classes.

When Calhoun gets to UT, he won't have to worry about his players going to calss.

Fulmer had top 10 recruiting classes before lil Lane came to Knoxville.   He had UT in the SEC championship game the year before he was let go.    If Calhoun gets hired he will not run a flebone offense.  He has to at Air Force in order to compete with kids not as talented.

Why not the option?  UT will NEVER recruit the speed and atheltic talent of UF or LSU or Alabama.  Teams running the option:

-- Georgia Tech won the ACC Championship
-- Navy almost beat Ohio State in the season oppener, and ran roughshod (literally) over Missouri in the Texas Bowl
-- Air Force had an outstanding season in the MWC, and was impressive in their bowl win over highly-regarded Houston
-- Army was one game shy of qualifying for a bowl bid after a decade of wallowing near the bottom of the "FBS"

UT fans won't get to see another Peyton Manning or Heath Shuler, but they also won't have to suffer through another Jonathan Crompton if Calhoun goes to the Paul Johnson "flexbone" option attack.

Dennis,

Any word that Fulmer could be replacing the current AD?

Thanks,
Trey
