Respected Lawrence (Kan.) Journald-World columnist Tom Keegan reported Thursday morning that "preliminary exchanges" between Texas and the Big Ten have been made regarding expansion.
This could be nothing more than the Large Eleven doing it's due diligence. Make Texas say no before moving on. Or, it could be serious. I mentioned in December that the only two slam dunks that made sense for the Big Ten were Notre Dame and Texas. ND isn't coming. Texas?
I doubt Texas would leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten. First, it would literally take an act of the state legislature to move. Second, I hear that Texas is going to start its own network. It already makes approximately $10 million a year in Big 12 revenue. It would make at least $16 million per year in the Big Ten but the school has so many revenue streams at the moment that difference might not matter.
Anyway, good get by Tommy K.
It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Ten

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Teni really hope Texas joins the Big Ten. Jim Delany had better be talking to Texas, OU and A&M. That would make a sick conference. Imagine OSU, Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, OU, Wisconsin, Iowa and Possibly Notre Dame.

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Tenabout not being close? who is actually close to texas anyways, doesnt texas fly to nebraska, iowa state, etc.. i believe there are major airline hubs in the majority of big ten markets. so non stop to detroit to play mich/ msu, nonstop to chicago to play illinois/northwestern, non stop to minneapolis, etc. its not about high school bus drives. texas plays nationally and a 2hour flight over an 1.5 hour flight isnt going to make any difference. its purely about developing the big ten network nationally and making almost every game a national game, not just a regional game. this will bring top dollars to texas, texas a&m, and i dare say notre dame when it gets its panties outta the bunch there in to join what will be the top conference in america. And texas wont dominate every year, id love to see texas in a night game in michigan stadium in november, u better put those cowboy hats away and where a parka. what national recruit wouldnt want to come to the big ten and abandon the acc, big east and dare say sec to be seen nationally every game of the year!

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenIt's not really that amazing. How do you think schools like Texas, Ohio State, USC, Florida etc. keep their winning traditions over the years? How do you think they have the best coaches, facilities, equipment, and student-athlete acedemic programs in the country? I'll tell you what, it's not their mascots or on-campus housing facilities.
Heck, I know for a fact that the Ohio State athletic department GIVES MONEY TO THE UNIVERSITY every year, not the other way around. How sick is that? |

Do you know anything about football! yes as a conf. the Big 10 is midwestern but the Big 10 is trying to get out into other markets. Louisville would be a good fit for Basketball and opens the market a little more but look at all the studs that come out of Texas. Missouri does nothing for the Big Ten, they don't need another Purdue sorry. |
