Respected Lawrence (Kan.) Journald-World columnist Tom Keegan reported Thursday morning that "preliminary exchanges" between Texas and the Big Ten have been made regarding expansion.
This could be nothing more than the Large Eleven doing it's due diligence. Make Texas say no before moving on. Or, it could be serious. I mentioned in December that the only two slam dunks that made sense for the Big Ten were Notre Dame and Texas. ND isn't coming. Texas?
I doubt Texas would leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten. First, it would literally take an act of the state legislature to move. Second, I hear that Texas is going to start its own network. It already makes approximately $10 million a year in Big 12 revenue. It would make at least $16 million per year in the Big Ten but the school has so many revenue streams at the moment that difference might not matter.
Anyway, good get by Tommy K.
It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Ten

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenI don't see the Big 10 going after any of those schools mentioned. Mizzou is the most likely, but geography is the only compelling point. It wouldn't get the conference into a different market, and it wouldn't really add a revenue generator. In addition, I don't know if the academic standards of any of them are at a high enough level to meet the standards of the Big Ten either.
Personally, I'd like to see UT move, but it won't happen - the conference would be too spread out. I'd also like to see UConn, but they seem pretty tied to the Big East. It'll be interesting to see what happens here. |

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenBuckstothemax that depends which ranking source you look at becuase USNews has Northwestern, Michigan, and Wisconsin ranked ahead and Penn St tied with Texas.
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandr eviews.com/best-colleges/national-u niversities-rankings/page+2 Either way Texas is on par with Big 10 schools. Are we really gonna argue over a couple spots when we are talking academics? This isn't football you know a poll means nothing about the quality education you can get from an institution. Anybody in the top 150 on that list I have linked is a good school. |

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Tengasspasser
Stop passing the gas. Yes Texas is a great university and would go well with the other Big10 universities. However, Texas is like Ohio State a sound great university with lots of money, but neither of them are Northwestern or I hate to even admit it Michigan or Wisconsin! 2nd of all Texas is the #2 largest budget for sports after my Buckeyes who support NCAA 33 sports compared to Texas 22! Texas would add the 4th power the Big10 needs Missouri would be fine to beef up the middle. Besides if the Big10 can poach Missouri and it's 6.5 mil people, Than Texas and the Big12 will loose more tv money. So Yes Texas will hear the Big10 out and if push comes to shove the Big10 has to take Texas A&M in process to get Texas than they'll go to 14 and grab Syracuse/Rutgers to please Penn State. 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Indiana 4. Illinois 5. Purdue 6. Syracuse 7. Northwestern 1. Texas 2. Texas A&M 3. Penn St. 4. Wisconsin 5. Michigan St 6. Iowa 7. Minnesota Way too many universities hard to balance out with Football and basketball, Maybe Just going after Missouri would save a lot of headaches! Still you have to sepperate Penn St, Michigan and Ohio State. |

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenUm...gasspasser...I think you're passing some gas. There's not a chance in hell that Texas can hold a candle academically to most teams in the Big Ten. That might be one of the funniest things I've seen in a post. Look at any school ranking list and you'll see that I'm right. Northwestern is one of the top schools in the country. I just looked it up...Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State are all ranked higher than Texas academically. |

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenIf by ruining it you mean bringing the top 2 academic schools the conference has in Texas and Texas A&M. If by ruining it you mean giving schools like Missouri, Kansas, Kansas St, and Oklahoma St a chance in football by opening the Texas borders to you. Yea I would say they ruined it for you

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenI wish you Texas schools would leave the Big 12 and rebuild the Southwest Conference. You've given us Big 8 schools nothing but trouble ever since we took you in. The only reason you're here is because the NCAA ruined the SWC by putting Southern Methodist on "Death Penalty" probation. We never needed you, and we were better off without you. Get out of our conference!

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenNo way UT goes to the BIG 10. The Big 12 is a better conference, as far as BCS history goes, and then there is the whole geography issue.
Why go to a conference where you play half your games 1,000 miles off campus? Compared 2-3 games a year barely accross state lines? In a confernece that has maybe one BCS champ ( Big 10 ), if that, compared to a confernce that places a team in the big game almost every single year ( BIG 12 ) ? Sunny south, or frozen north? Easy choice. Academically Texas is, at the very least, on par with any school in the BIG 10. Money? Texas has the largest cash endowment of any university in the USA, and the largest budget for sports in the country. We don't need your money, or your 2nd rate conference, thanks for the offer. No thanks. If the Big 10 wants to lure away a BIG 12 team, a better fit may be Iowa ST, or Missou. They are closer geographically, and are more on par as far as level of competition for the BIG 10. Iowa ST fields a better team than IU, NW, or Purdue most years, and shares a rivalry with Iowa. Missou is just one state west of The fighting Illini, and would be about equal to them, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan St and Michigan. Trust me, The University of Texas has no interest in joining the BIG 10, they have nothing to gain by doing it. |

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenWho, outside of OSU once every 4-5 years, would kill Texas in football. I'm not a longhorn fan, but that is just hysterical.

It's finally out there: Texas to the Big TenHornsup &nbs
p; You can't have it both ways yes Ohio State Crushed Texas in Austin and yes Texas had a freshman quarterback. 2 yrs ago yes texas pulled out a victory over Ohio State in the Fiesta oh yeah Ohio State had a freshman quarterback. Beating Michigan by 1 in the Rose Bowl and beating a bad 6-7 Iowa team when texas was 10-3 in bowl is not enough to nock the Big10. Yes Texas would be a great addition to our league but the Big10 would be great to Texas also. |
