It's finally out there: Texas to the Big Ten

Respected Lawrence (Kan.) Journald-World columnist Tom Keegan reported Thursday morning that "preliminary exchanges" between Texas and the Big Ten have been made regarding expansion.

This could be nothing more than the Large Eleven doing it's due diligence. Make Texas say no before moving on. Or, it could be serious. I mentioned in December that the only two slam dunks that made sense for the Big Ten were Notre Dame and Texas. ND isn't coming. Texas?

I doubt Texas would leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten. First, it would literally take an act of the state legislature to move. Second, I hear that Texas is going to start its own network. It already makes approximately $10 million a year in Big 12 revenue. It would make at least $16 million per year in the Big Ten but the school has so many revenue streams at the moment that difference might not matter.

Anyway, good get by Tommy K.

Would this mean that the Big Ten, which has ELEVEN schools,  be known as the Big Eleven with twelve schools?

It's 856 miles flying in the air to Iowa City or Champaign, and over 1300 miles to State College.  So there is a HUGE difference in distance from adding Texas to the Big10.  All the money shouldn't override the fact that it would create a two region conference that will cost the schools and their fans a ton of money to travel back and forth...

Frankly Mr. UTConley71, that loss does have me that confient -- well of course that loss plus the shutout in the bowl game and well, you'd probably have to be a Husker fan to understand.  The entrire culture of our program has shifted back to what we are more familiar with.  We all know the damage Pederson and Callahan left, but the Bros Pelini (along with Dr. Tom) have got this thing going in the right direction.

I'm not concerned about our trip to Ames.....truthfully there isn't a game on the sked that we shouldn't win.  Things look very, very promising for BIG RED next season -- we'll be there in the end, hope to find bevo there for the next round

BLACKSHIRTS ALL DAY  Yes, leading the nation in scoring defense qualifies as being BIG!

Hey How can we say no to that!   I give it 95% chance that it will be Missouri.  The other 5% for Texas.  Texas really is a pipe dream and Missouri is REAL.   See you in the conference in say what 2012?

Sometimes  It's about the commitment to all college sports.  As much money as Texas has wouldn't it be prudent to set a tone for all the student athletes.  Texas isn't the only one Florida also only has 17 sports and all that money.  What's the point in all that money if your not taking care of the needs for all sports wether they make money or not.  It's college and the experience.  On a seperate note I know adding Texas to the Big10 would help the conference, but would it help or hurt the likes of Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan.  Don't get me wrong I think Texas and Ohio State would be even in beating each other but would't it be extra hard for a solid program like Wisconsin or Iowa to win?   Also would Texas really want to play 2 games in November in the North?   Even with all 4/5 star players weather tends to equalize the speed.  A good example would be in the cold and mud Wisconsin 3 star player beat Miami 4/5 stars and LSU looked so bad against a Penn St. team who didn't beat anybody this year until LSU.  Maybe than the best bet for the Big10 would be a solid program like Missouri?   Don't know i'M going back and forth with this.  It would be great to see OHIO Stat, Michigan, Penn Stat/TEXAS each year the game day atmosphere would be electric!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a one game season against Ohio State every year (apologies to Penn State and Michigan)  and that's if they play each other every year.  Texas could see this as an easier avenue to the championship game every year.  However, it could also end up backfiring as the state of state of Texas could be seen as an untapped source of recruiting grounds to the likes of the Big three and others, much like Oklahoma already does.

The easy, safe and best choice is Mizzou for multiple reasons.  MU meets all the stated requirements for a new member.
MU increases market area by gaining StL and KC markets plus Missouri has 6.5 million people and only one D1 football team plus we have some of the best facilities in the nation with a stadium that holds 71K.  MU has good academics and is a member of the AAU.  MU was ranked top 15 public schools academically per Forbes and has more research money than Indiana U and a higher endowment than Iowa.  So it wouldn't rate last in the Big 10 on two major categories.  You bring in a big state school name with tradition.  Both the bball team and football team are competitive and both have been good as of late.  We fit geographically and already have a budding rivalry with Illinois who we destroyed in both bball and football this year.  Plus we think Iowa is full of hicks and has no culture or real cities.  They can be our new Kansas.  Just trying to stir the pot.   We have one of the best if not the best journalism school in the country and one of the only schools in the country with a law school, vet school, engineering school, nuc reactor and med school on the same campus.  And best of all MU would love to be in the Big 10.  Not that the Big 12 is bad, but overall MU would benefit across the board.  MU is in a good position.  Either conference will work, the Big 10 is just a better fit.  Plus MU alum incldue Brad Pitt, Sheryll Crow, John Hamm, George C. Scott, Kate Capshaw, Tom Beringer, Chris Cooper, Sam Walton, Edward Jones, the Governor of Oregon and Virginia (total random but true), Tennessee Williams, Mort Walker and name a famous journalist, i.e. Dennis Dodd.  For crying out loud the guy who wrote this article is a Mizzou grad.  We are everywhere.  The list goes on and on.  That sounds like a winner to me Big 10 country.

Buckeye321 who cares about the freakin budget?  Texas has the largest athletic revenue.  If they are doing it with a smaller budget that is outstanding.  More money for the school to pocket.  You buckeye fans kill me sometimes.  Bragging about spending the most money on athletics but yet you are not making the most pfft!
