Roy Williams issues statement kind of apologizing for comparing Haiti disaster to North Carolina hoops disaster.

Love how he says he is sorry statement "made it appear" he was comparing Haiti to UNC hoops. No, Roy, you DID compare Haiti to UNC hoops.

Oh, Roy, please...

I'm not quite sure what you mean by one of Roy's rings belongs to Dean Smith.  The haters say that Roy won the first title with another coaches players, but that would have been Matt Doherty.  Dean Smith was long gone by the time Roy came back to town.

Oh, Roy, please...

Coach, you may not believe this, or may not feel it all the time, but, what they have in Haiti is a catastrophe. What you have is a disappointment.' And, it's true. It's something ... I said, well right now in my mind and my body, it feels like a catastrophe, but it is. What those people are having to go through is just unbelievable and it does put what we're going through in a different light, but it doesn't make it any easier though Woody, but it does make us understand what we're facing."For this comment he is vilified.  Get a grip.

Oh, Roy, please...

No one needs to feel sorry for Roy and the Heels. I certainly do not. They get more High School All-American recruits each year than most anybody. They play in a great arena. They have a hall-of-fame (albeit, somewhat whiney) coach. They have 2 national titles in the past 5 years. They have a fine academic institution.
There is no need for sympathy for the Tarheels. To their fans, and I am not one, no need for despair. But at the same time, make no excuses (like youth, injuries, talent-drain,etc.) for when your Heels lose to a team that is simply better - whether it be Duke, Wake, Maryland, or whomever. Your team is not entitled to a top 5 program each year. Show some class. Show some dignity. Your team will be back soon enough. The talent is there, as well as the great coach, and more top recruits are coming. No tears for the Tarheels.

Oh, Roy, please...

Really?  Why did you bring him to UNC?  Oh, I don't know, maybe 2 National Championships perhaps????  I am a Kansas fan and one that is actually happy to see Roy have success at UNC.  I was very sad to see him go, but I think things have worked out just fine for both KU and UNC......  Regardless of his comments, he is one of the most passionate coaches (good and bad) and overall one of the top 3 coaches in the game right now.  I am sure that you have said something in the heat of the moment that you wish you could yank back, right?  I think we are all way too sensitive to what our players/coaches say, especially considering how humbling a season this has been for UNC.  Lighten up people - do you honestly think he would relate UNC struggles to the devastation in Haiti????

Oh, Roy, please...

Dynamos7...obviously a big east fan.  Why so much hatred for the ACC????  As an ACC fan I don't hate the Big East.  I dislike a few of their teams...actually only Georgetown and U Conn., but hate them, NO!!!  Love the game...don't hate the other conferences just because they seem to be favored.  They aren't by no means.  Doesn't matter what you think...matters what actually takes place.  And yes Roy's comments were taken way beyond anything he intended so Dodd's comments are null and void in my view!!!

Oh, Roy, please...

I guess winning 2 titles gives you the right to compare your lousy coaching job to a real life disaster!  I wonder how long until he starts crying on tv for the folks in tar heel country saying I love these kids so much, I honestly think of them as my own children!!!! Him and the other phony coach k should spend more time attacking the other team instead of the officals and their own fans!!! Roy had a tar heel fan tossed because he yelled at a heel player, GIVE ME A BREAK!!!! who does he think he is,(coach k ?)  If duke is a top ten team I guess you don't have to win on the road to be ranked that high!!!  duke would not be in the top eight in the big east!!! they suck just like their overrated coach, dick vitale!!!!! oh right , he's not the coach but you'd never know it!!! long live the big east!!!!

Oh, Roy, please...

All he marbels are coming loose! Talk about thinking too highly of yourself-  Roy is looking dumber and dumber everyday-  Why did we bring him to UNC?

WE bring him to UNC? Ftball, you're not even a UNC fan, your profile says you're a Oregan State fan. Besides, any true UNC fan would not question why Roy Williams was hired to coach the team.

Oh, Roy, please...

Please limit your incompetent ramblings to college football, Dodd. You're way out of your league here.
