Ole Miss mascot suggestions

With word that a Star Wars character is being considered as the new mascot at Ole Miss, it's clear someone has broken out the hallucinogens in Oxford.

In the spirit of chasing a Vicodin with a shot of vodka, here are my top 10 candidates to replace Colonel Reb:

10. Colonel Sanders

9. Sgt. Hulka

8. Pvt. Gomer Pyle

7. General George S. Patton

6. John Grisham

5. Hannah Storm, but only in her Catholic school girl outfit

4. Tony Kornheiser (at the rate he's going, he could use the gig)

3. Conan O'Brien (ditto)

2. Billy Brewer

1. Dulymus Jenod "Deuce" McAllister

Ole Miss mascot suggestions

Well, as long as there's deep discussion on the new mascot here's my two cents worth.
Pick a name using the following:

State nickname: Magnolia State (also a state flower)
State bird: mockingbird
State fish, largemouth bass
State insect: honeybee
State mammal: white-tailed deer
Marine mammal: bottle-nosed dolphin (porpoise)

Others: name after cotton, soybeans, catfish, pearl, shrimp, etc.

the use of akbar actually makes a little bit of sense in comparison to potentially everything else listed. a team known as the rebels with the commander of the rebel alliance as its mascot makes a degree of sense. and seriously people, its a mascot. its not like they're gonna have his face on the side of their helmets (despite how awesome that would be). ole miss wanted to replace colonel reb because of the negative connotations with the deep south. sounds all fine and good and the students are just having some fun with it. hell, they're the ones packing the stadium and making all the noise and paying the bills, might as well give them their voice. to be fair though, it doesnt matter what they do because ole miss is still going to suck.

Ole Miss mascot suggestions

To the far east of Ole Miss is the home of the Hurricanes of Miami.  They have a seagull or something in a Donald Duck suit.

Immediately east is the Crimson Tide of Alabama.  They have an elephant for no apparent reason.  Of course Groucho Marx said he was hunting elephants for their ivory and preferred to go to Alambama where the Tusks are looser (Tuscaloosa.)

Immediately west of Ole Miss is Tulane, home of the Green Wave.  They don't get enough coverage to know if they have a mascot who is a bird, a wave, or a FEMA employee in an asbestos trailer.

Maybe Ole Miss can show some solidarity with their neighbors and be something in the Tide or Wave family.  The Blue Tsunamis has a ring to it.  Go Blue Tsu! Go Blue Tsu!  Whether they pick that or go with something like the Blue Storm, I hope they invite Hannah down for the unveiling.

Speaking of Hannah, whether she deserved the attempt at humor over her wardrobe or not, she knows she is dressing for her audience.  If she wants to prevent us admiring/lusting after her, she can wear looser sweaters, a jacket, longer skirts, and work out a lot less.

Admiral Ackbar is a likable character, but I think Dodd missed out on two obvious choices.  Gregg Doyel and Gary Parrish both have ties to Mississippi.  The Ole Miss Doyels -- an angry bald mascot with boxing gloves or the Ole Miss Parrishes -- a slick dressed, well-tanned mascot with lots of hair product.  Maybe they should stick with Ackbar.

he said that Ackbar was the leader of the Rebel Alliance FLEET, not the entire alliance.

besides that, i think the university should cut the entire PC s*** and keep the ol' colonel.

Mon Mothma ("My mother" - as opposed to the "Dark Father" in the black iron lung) was the political leader.  Ackbar was the military commander.  So you're both right.

Anyone who disses Star Wars is un-American.

Akbar was not the leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Mon Mothma was the leader!  Get your fictional facts straight!!!

Apparently, he’s some stupid Star Wars figure for which I’m very proud to say I NEVER saw nor will ever see a Star Wars film.
Wow.  I feel sorry for you.  Granted the "prequels" were garbage, but the original 3 are some of the best movies ever made.

Ole Miss Mudcats

General Ackbar makes perfect sense and it works on a lot of levels.  He's the leader of the Rebel Alliance, as has been pointed out, but he also resembles a huge catfish, which if you don' know, is a favorite dish in the South and Mississippi in particular.  There are huge catfish in the Mississippi River, and the state of Mississippi produces more farm raised catfish than any other state.

So i'm advocation the Ole Miss Mudcats with Gen. Ackbar as the mascot.  Now if we can just get Steven Spielberg on board, i think its a match made in Heaven.
