Behind the scenes with Mike Leach

Check out this insane, crazy rant by Mike Leach from last November. (Warning: offensive language. For adults, use headphones in mixed company. If not, use ear muffs for the kids)

It came after a victory over Baylor. Leach basically spends 6 1/2 minutes calling his players soft. I counted at least 24 f-word or f-word variations. (Example: "F--- you, f--- me, f--- everybody.") Not that anyone should be surprised about that in a lockerroom but it's a side of Leach we haven't seen. In this, he's as bat (bleep) as Woody or Bo, not the loveable Pirate.

Leach threatens to "start by cutting people" and "benching people."

Behind the scenes with Mike Leach

It doesn't matter how many games he wins or even if he could win them all, he's still a big Loser.
The trial isn't over yet, Carnac. You can't call him a loser until the fat judge sings.

Leach is a piece of garbage and an embarrassment to anyone associated with Texas Tech who has any sensibilities.    It doesn't matter how many games he wins or even if he could win them all, he's still a big Loser.

The thing is that NCAA football is high profile, and the fact that it was Craig James son makes it even more high profile.  That's the big difference.   Still, like you indicate, what Leach did was not so unusual.  The problem is that Leach refused to accept that it was a high profile situation, and that as such Texas Tech had no choice but to suspend Leach for a game and conduct an investigation, or at least make a show of doing so.  When Leach sued Texas Tech for doing what it had no choice in doing, he sealed his own fate.  He had always been confrontational with the administration at Tech anyway, and he let his ego make decisions rather than his intellect.  He shot himself in the foot.
DandyDon, you are way out of the loop. The main players were deposed yesterday and today. You should read the results. You are defending the indefensible 'cause the President of the University said in a memo to the Chancellor that Leach DID have the right to sue for re-instatement without prejudice. To say Tech had no choice is naive and suggests you are someone who always sides with the establishment. Even if you do not like Leach, that is no reason to deny him justice.

Am I missing something?  This is no worse than I heard from my high school coach.  And I was on the Pom Squad!

Behind the scenes with Mike Leach

It's funny how one poster says its not up to him to judge whether Leach's behavior and language is right or wrong, then he proceeds to tell us all why he has judged it as right.

The fact is Leach is an asshole and always has been.  For whatever reason people didn't see it - probably because no one saw him blow up and display overt examples of being an asshole.

But assholes sometimes succeed as coaches, and admittedly being harsh can sometimes get throug to players.  I'm not Leach fan, but he was an effective coach.

As for the guy that said Leach's problem was that he lost too many games he should have won, I have to tell you that your head must be buired way up your backside.  Anyone who keeps his head in the clear would know that Texas Tech and TT fans were thrilled with how much Leach won.  He was easily the winningest coach the school ever had, and there has been more excitement about Texas Tech football in the last 10 years than at any other time.

The bottom line is that Leach rubbed people the wrong way and took the approach that he was untouchable because of his accomplishments.  Had he accepted his suspension for the bowl game and allowed Tech to conduct the "investigation" - as any idiot knew they would have to do with such public claims -  Leach would have received a mild slap on the wrist at most, and the school would have made a show of coming up with guidelines on how to handles certain situations.

In other words, the whole thing would have blown over, but instead Leach chooses to sue his employer.  For a guy who went to law school Leach sure doesn't seem to think thngs through very well.

The man had absolutely no class...just look at his track record with the media.  And you wonder why TT wanted to get rid of him.  I know that he won alot of games at Tech and had some great comeback games, but what was he doing besides that?  Not teaching values of any kind to the players...that's for sure.  This guy is a classless jerk and needs to be humbled.

Oh no, you got it wrong.

Leach can be as weird as he wants and drop as many f-bombs as he likes, IF HE WINS!

When he loses, he's just plain bizarre!

Leach's real problem, he lost too many games he should have won.  Oh, that and getting the commentator from the nation's biggest sports network upset at him.

Heck, I though he was goofy when he was winning.
