Nebraska and the Big Ten

Good column here from the Omaha World-Herald on Nebraska's interest in the Big Ten.

Pay particular attention to Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman's answer when asked if contact has been made with the Big Ten. "I'm not going to answer that," Perlman said. Wow, interpret that as you wish. I know how I read it.

Nebraska and Missouri to the Big Ten if the Large 11 goes to at least 14. Don't ask me who the other teams would be.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!

LSU fans let it go...you got beat in one of the most exciting games of the decade. The Capital One bowl of 2004 was clearly a matchup of 2 great teams and the losing teams fans cannot be of good sports.

Simply put..you get beat by the Hawks and have to root against them. Bring on the Bugeaters or Tigers..The Big Ten welcomes you!

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Loophole,

I don't think expansion is about respect at all it is about TV Market Share, that is the only reason Rutgers and Syracuse are or could be keys.  Gaining a piece of the New York TV Marketshare would generate a ton of income for the Big Ten.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Before everyone jumps me I meant to go change my comment of only wanting 1 Big 12 school, as I wrote and thought about it I talked myself out of that.  Mainly because I don't think there is anyway the Big Ten can get Texas without another Big 12 school.  So having to choice one Nebraska was the best fit.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

For the record, I think all those people talking about tradition and academics playing a role can through it out the window.  The Big Ten is seeing who wants in and will make its decision based on revenue increase alone.  That is why Notre Dame and Texas are the two the Big Ten covets the most.   All though I will agree that tradition and revenue do kind of come hand in hand.

I think the biggest thing is market share when it comes to the Big Ten Network.

Personally I the only Big 12 school I want to see is Texas for that reason.  Don't get me wrong I think from a tradition stand point Nebraska fits the Big 10 mold perfectly but not sure how they help market share unless pulling them or another Big 12 school like Missouri is enough to lure Texas.

I also think whatever happens, Notre Dame is pretty much forced to join.  Expansion would severely hurt their annual rivalary games and would make recruiting even harder.  Especially if Pittsburg and/or Boston College are included in the expansion.  At the end of the day it is hard to say what will happen, but one thing is for certain, The Big Ten Network was the best decision the league has ever made.  For now that is, expansion to 16 teams would be amazing, not only would it rock the college football world it would once again make the Big Ten kings of the hill.

Here are the teams I would like to see:

1. Texas.........A must have if possible, and they would generate more revenue in the Big Ten, especially if another Big 12 team leaves.
2. Notre Dame........A must have, and they will have no choice, the Big Ten will have the final say.
3. Nebraska.......It just seems right, and could lure Texas.
4. Boston College........Would be great to gain market share in the Boston area.
5. Rutgers or Syracuse........New York is a huge market share, a must have in an expansion to a super conference.

At the end of the day it is all about TV market share.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Oh I will. Actually I have nothing but respect for the Nebraska team and fans. We can always count on them giving us a game. It was meant as more of a dig at the Little 11.

Missouri on it's way down. You might want to read up on recruiting next time you want to make a brilliant statement. Hmmm... it looks like Big ole' Mizzou has a great recruiting class coming here thats ranked in the top 25. What Nebraska's class rank. Well usually when a team has a top 25 recruiting class there not on there way down.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Blkflagmafia - I think the guy you were responding to was rooting to play Nebraska every year because it would be a great and fun matchup, not because he thinks Iowa would win every year

negative sir, negative. i can see you wont be a detective based on your horrible observations, first why is an iowa fan using their rival victory as their avatar??? riddle me that sherlock holmes. second he is always on nebraska blogs spewing his love fest for nebraska(notice the sarcasm) and talking about how we lost to iowa st and how we suck. would it be fun playing iowa no not rele they stop the series bc nebraska was running over them like a monster truck on old junk cars. so next time you want to throw out your opinion make sure you know the background and the whole situation. i mean he confused cornhusker with cornsucker rele?? simply mistake you say riigggghhhhhhhtt.........

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Another plus - OU & Nebraska could renew one of the best rivalries in college FB.  I'm an OU fan/grad, and we miss playing the Huskers every year.  You guys know and respect the game like we do.
