Nebraska and the Big Ten

Good column here from the Omaha World-Herald on Nebraska's interest in the Big Ten.

Pay particular attention to Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman's answer when asked if contact has been made with the Big Ten. "I'm not going to answer that," Perlman said. Wow, interpret that as you wish. I know how I read it.

Nebraska and Missouri to the Big Ten if the Large 11 goes to at least 14. Don't ask me who the other teams would be.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Big Red Lives - I'm curious why you don't like the B10's brand of football. I feel like Nebraska is known for it's Blackshirt Defenses and hard-nosed football. In the B10, I'm sure you can point out RichRod's spread or Illinois' offense when they went to the Rose Bowl, but I think the B10 plays a brand of football more similar to Nebraska than the open-it up and air-it out offenses we've seen in the B12 lately.

I am not arguing your point because it's your opinion, I'm just curious to hear more about your thoughts. The B10 in the past was known for its big linemen and ground game, which Nebraska used almost exclusively in their 90's heydays. I'm all for Nebraska joining the B10 because I think you have a solid athletic program and a passion for having a great football team to go along with an institution that has similar focuses and ambitions.

Blkflagmafia - I think the guy you were responding to was rooting to play Nebraska every year because it would be a great and fun matchup, not because he thinks Iowa would win every year.

Being from Michigan, I'd love to watch Nebraska take on OSU, PSU, Iowa, and other B10 schools in addition to Michigan every so often. I think adding one more strong school to the mix may add another L to some teams loss columns, but I personally want to be the best by beating the best, so I look at that as a positive. However it shakes out, I'd welcome any school that is committed to academic integrity and improvement, has a passion for football and overall athletics, and has fans that share the values that bring B10 fans together for great rivalries and friendships.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Hey Sucks,
I guess there is a reason you are on the Amateur status list.  In case you haven't heard, the "4th Best Football Conference" is the richest conference in the nation.  Money drags a lot of people around by the nose...The Pac 10 wishes they had that kind of clout and other than Texas, the Big 12 is not a strong conference.  The SEC is the only conference that is remotely close to the payouts for each school that the sports programs generate in the B10.  The B10 is the only conference with balls enough and capital enough to launch it's own Network.  That Network was profitable in year 2.  Add to that the amount of R&D grants the Big 10 schools get and you have a LOT of dough.  Even you must now the Golden Rule...He who has the gold -rules.  If you don't believe me, ask the guys who started Microsoft.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

To answer your question, YES Nebraska has a basketball team. Their womens teams is pretty damn good and would be a power in the Big 10. Their mens team is average. Good one year and down the next. So you never really would know what you are getting. As for summer sports like baseball and softball i dont know anything about them. Was gonna say they have a decent wrestling program, but when iowa is in your conference it doesnt matter how good you are cus you will always be 2nd best in wrestling.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

For a Bama fan to knock Iowa for the fact they blocked 2 kicks to win a game is weird to me. You dont block a kick vs Ten. you dont win and in all likelyhood dont play for the title. Yeah we played bad that first game. A lot of new starters. But a W is a W.  Our only losses of the year were in a game our QB got knocked out and a game he couldnt play in. But a TRUE freshman QB took us to OT with OSU. Had we had Stanzi, I think we win both those games. And as for the Arizona game...we played them when they were healthy. When the Huskers played them some good players were out with injuries. And the Eric Crouch game has NOTHING to do with what would happen now. We were in a transition with our coaches back then. New offense and new defense and your team was awesome. Wasnt like we expected to be close. Play now and i guarantee its a lot closer. And to be honest had they played last year or this coming year, Iowa would be favored. Why do people think something that happened what  10 years ago means anything today?? Hell 10 years ago the Rays sucked in baseball and regularly got stomped by the Red Sox and Yanks. But who is doing the whoopin now?? Rays have no history but are the better team. A Pheonix hockey team with no major history almost took out the Red wings, a team with more history than anyone. Oklahoma City damn near beat the the end of the day my point is this...When the game is played today, nothing that happened yesterday, a week ago, a month ago, a year ago or 10 years ago means ANYTHING. Its who is healthier, shows up to play and gets off to a good start that will decide who wins. Yeah, you have more titles, yeah you have a storied history...SO WHAT?? At one point you guys were just another team, so who says we cant run off a bunch of wins and build a history?? I always supported Nebraska, but god...your fans are arrogant. You really think Nebraska is on a pedistal and everyone else is below you...hmm..I think last year there were a ton of teams that would have beat NU. Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State, Florida, Miami, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Oregon, TCU, Texas, Boise State. Add in the fact that lowely Iowa State did beat you and that makes you a middle teir power team now. I aint saying Iowa is a power at all. But we never get blown out anymore. We are in every game. And we play hard. Teams like that are dangerous because they dont get intimidated at all. So keep saying how NU will kill Iowa every year if they join the Big 10. But when that first game comes and we beat ya, i dont want to hear the typical: the refs sucked, this guy was hurt, the weather or whatever BS excuses you seem to come up with when ya lose. A W is a W and  an L is an L. I dont care how it happens, it still goes in the record book the same way.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Apparently you didn't only fail economics, but also geography.
Last I checked, Nebraska shares a border with Iowa, which shares a border with Illinois.  That sounds pretty contiguous to me.
As for the Nebraska, I would be willing to wager there are more Nebraska fans in KC than there are Missouri fans.  Oh yeah, Nebraska brings a nationwide fan base, from Florida to California.  I guess if you want to restrict your TV sets to St. Louis and Columbia, MO, you'll root for Mizzou to be included in your conference, lol.
