Nebraska and the Big Ten

Good column here from the Omaha World-Herald on Nebraska's interest in the Big Ten.

Pay particular attention to Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman's answer when asked if contact has been made with the Big Ten. "I'm not going to answer that," Perlman said. Wow, interpret that as you wish. I know how I read it.

Nebraska and Missouri to the Big Ten if the Large 11 goes to at least 14. Don't ask me who the other teams would be.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Please God, let this happen. I would do anything for an annual matchup with the cornsuckers every year. I promise I wont ask for anything ever again.

you mean you want more butt whooping from the big red machine??? the last time we met eric crouch put his foot on one of your cornerbacks chest. last i also checked iowa decline to continue the series, i understand you love nebraska on the low and you dont want to admit it; because the only good thing about iowa is they copied the steelers football uniform design. but i hope the good Lord answers your prayer...................... and i hope he grants your second wish after that because you will be begging for nebraska to go back to the west.

keep hating on nebraska it means were doing something rights but then again we have 5 nat'l title so we know that we've been doing something right. enjoy that lonely title.........

Nebraska and the Big Ten

This is all about football. Does Nebraska even have a Basketball team? How about any other sports other than Football?.Mizzu would be a more competent school for Big Ten athletics Nebraska's volleyball team is a contender for the national championship every year. Its women's basketball team was a No. 1 seed this year, and its baseball team is a perennial contender.

Missouri is competitive in the Big 12 in volleyball and baseball, but most years, anything beyond the final 16 is beyond expectations. It is not close to competitive in women's basketball. Overall, Nebraska's sports are healthier than Missouri's.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

I think we would fit in well to the Big 10 with our style of football.  Smash mouth and hard nosed defense.  Callahan took that away, but you can't deny that Bo has brought the style that us Huskers have grown to love back to Lincoln.  I am not a trash talker so I don't really care about what Iowa would/will do to us or what we would/will do to them.  The simple fact is that I'm a Husker fan, and I believe we are back, and I would love to see us in the Big 10, or Big XII.  The competition fits us better in the Big 10 in my opinion, but with Bo at the helm, I think we would compete in any conference with any team.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

I am a Penn State fan.  I want Nebraska hands down #1.  I then want Rutgers and Syracuse.  I want east coast additions to shift the conference a tad more east as opposed to midwest schools like Mizzo and ND.  I think Cuse matches up better academically than Cincy.  I think it also gives the Big Ten a new york market with a nj and ny school.  Cuse will bring better football and basketball in the long term.  I like pitt, but I dont want the recruiting turf war that close to home- nj is close enough.  Im not sure ohio st wants cincy in their backyard either.  So raid the big east, take Rutgers and Cuse, send a sympathy card to ND and power up a 14 team conference that will finally get some more respect.

Nebraska would compete in the Big 10, but they would not dominate every year.  They would be another consistent power added to Ohio State and Penn State, to go along with the less consistent Iowas, Wisconsin, and RichRod coached Michigan.  Oh and I don't see how anyone could argue that Nebraska would dominate Iowa last year.  Iowa had more wins, was higher ranked, beat better opponents, and went farther than the Huskers.  I mean, any given Sunday, but Iowa would have been the favorite in a neutral field.

Be careful what you wish for...

What's the point of adding a team if you don't want them to be competitive?  If Nebraska jumps in and competes for the Big Ten title right away, it only makes the conference stronger.

You're kidding right? Try checking the Directors' Cup standings (all-sport rankings). Nebraska's average over the last five years is 26th. Mizzou's average is 43rd. Nice try though.

Nebraska and the Big Ten

Well one thing is very apparent.  Dodd has nothing else to talk about, what are we going on now, about 2 solid months of dealing with the Big 10 issue?  I must say I read the article written by Shatel in the Omaha World Herald and I was a little taken back by what Perlman didn't say when asked about the Big Ten.I have been saying that NU would not leave the Big 12, however it is a known fact that NU was against many of the issues that came with the Big 12 and the conference seems to cower to Texas.  Coach Osborne has never been a fan of the Big 12, especially the way everything played out when the confernece was formed.  Many things were designed to hurt NU who was on top of the college football world when the new conference was formed.
However I am somewhat reluctant to embrace the Big 10, I really am not much of a fan of your brand of football.  Nebraska will do well in any conference, the fans travel well and NU recruiting will not be hurt by the players coming out of Texas, NU has always recruited Texas well even before the Big 12 and this will not stop.
As for the Iowa fans out there, I only have a couple of things to say, National Championships and Nile Kinnick.  Your best football player is from Nebraska and don't talk to us about your football team.  Yes NU has struggled and took a few steps back, but until you have been to the promised land you Hawkeye fans will not understand this.
The Huskers as Bo says " Are back, be careful what you all wish for.
And to the BYU fan out there, no it does not make any sense for the Big 12 to take you.  Not in any sense of the word.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and I am beginning to think the Big Red may very well join a new conference.  I guess I should put my name in for Hockey tickets.
