It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Posted on: June 11, 2010 2:33 pm

LINCOLN, Neb. -- It's official. Nebraska has joined the Big Ten, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

The story broke online while the board of regents are in executive session upstairs from where we are in the basement of Varner Hall. That means we're going to get a story today.

It's going to be great seeing Michigan and Ohio State come to Memorial Stadium. Purdue and Indiana not so much. Sad day, in a way, I'm sure for Tom Osborne. He wanted to stay in the Big 12. Texas forced his hand.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Duh, that would make it the Big 12, not the Big 11, if you're into changing names (they won't).  There were already 11 schools in the Big 10.  This kind of intellectual sloppiness is one reason why so many other schools in the what-used-to-be-the-Big-12 aren't of interest to the Big 10:  academics.  LOL.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Simmion Iowa started their climb back to relevance with a win over Nebraska in 1981. They almost beat Nebraska in Lincoln in Hayden Fry's first year in 1979. I think the rivalries are better for Nebraska in the Big Ten than the Texas schools.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

Bye bye Nebraska!  Congratulations on being the 3rd choice of the Big 10 after Notre Dame and Texas turned them down.  You were irrelevent in the Big XII and you'll be irrelevent in the Big 10.  You are a Tier 2 school and will rank 12 of 12 in the Big 10.  Guess what? The Big 10 will not allow you to have partial qualifiers either and you have never been decent without them.  Your championships were all based on using players other schools couldn't touch - people who had no business being in college.  Oh yeah, Nebraska admits damn near anyone who applies.  Face it - you're just a below average school.  Blaming Texas for all your woes is ludicrous.  What exactly did Texas do - look out for its own interests?  What school doesn't?  Texas is the number one money-making school in the country by far.  More Texas gear is sold nationwide than any other school - Texas is respected and admired from coast to coast.  Almost every game is on TV.  Why?  Because the country wants to watch them.  Sorry, but Nebraska does not have that popularity or following.  So, once again, bon voyage into your new conference but same mediocrity.

How is that? And why? Texas forcing a hand? Than as Big 12 conference fans, we need to see that Texas is shipped out of here. Texas is very good in many sports, however they are not the Gods of college athletics or the Big 12 conference. And if Mr. Osborne really wanted to stay that badly, he should have and would have. It is just as simple as saying no. I thought the Big 12 confernce was a leader among the conference powers. Looks like now it is just a bunch of followers.

It's done: Nebraska to the Big 11

At this point, I really am getting tired of reading how the Texas legislature is back in session, and will meet again next week, and then next month to decide whatever...

Seems that plan didn't work afterall.....Texas is slowing digging itself a hole....The PAC wants them but not with Baylor or Texas Tech part of the package...A&M has their own idea's about what's best for them(the SEC) and the Big Ten well they're not going to accept anyone unless they fit into their little group the AAU.(Which Texas doesn't).

And since Nebraska didn't bite on the ultimatium by Texas and did the best thing for them then the Big 12 as we know it is pretty much done. Missouri is next to the Big Ten since Notre Dame will never agree to give up what they have right now under the current system(BCS) to join any conference.

So Texas can go the Notre Dame route and become independent now it seems since they can't have their cake and eat it too.

Ragging on Purdue in every new article and post...is this Dodd's new gimmick?  FYI Purdue beat the teams you have wet dreams about this past year.  Also go ahead and mark it down...Purdue is gonna hit a bowl game this year.
