Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

LINCOLN, Neb. -- It was the worst beating Texas has taken in public in at least seven years.

That 65-13 loss to Oklahoma in 2003 was only a football game. Nebraska officials spent the better part of 40 minutes Friday putting Bevo in his place.

Nebraska didn't just leave the Big 12 for the Big Ten on Friday, it told the world why: That bully Texas. In the space of eight days, Nebraska transformed from happy member of the Big 12 to angry, rancorous new member of the Big Ten.

Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman and AD Tom Osborne both took turns hammering Texas during a comment period before the board of regents. When they got done, there was only one possible result. The regents' vote was unanimous. Nebraska is headed to the Big Ten. Unspoken: Because Texas forced it out.

The moment the news broke last week about the Pac-10's desire to take Texas and five Big 12 partners, Nebraska turned sour. Perlman, at one point, stared across a table during the Big 12 meetings at his Texas counterpart Bill Powers and asked him if he was willing to give up his media rights. In other words, start a Big 12 Network. Powers said no. At that point, Perlman knew it was over.

This league had a chance to survive seven years ago but a possible network was voted down, obviously not supported by Texas. Now, it's clear the Pac-10 is going to get Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Super conferences, start your engines.

The money quote from Osborne: "One school leaving a conference does not break up a conference. Two schools leaving a conference does not break up a conference. Six schools leaving a conference, breaks up a conference. We have not had a hidden agenda, we have not dealt with more than one conference."

T.O. intimated that Texas has been talking to the SEC, Big Ten and Pac-10.

It was a bad day for Texas' reputation. It was a good day for Nebraska's future.

Are you gay Chad?  I mean its cool if you are as to each there own, but I have not heard many men talk and whine like you have done here today while not making any sense to the rest of the world.   Not too many men sign off their own gay name either after every post.

people can’t see past their biases and be honest with themselves.

tomorrow read your posts and you will see that you are being the most biased person in the room.  What a hypocrit....Are you a gay hypocrit Chad?

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

Ahhhhh, Nebraska took their toys and went home.  Boohoo.

Nebraska just got tired of losing to Texas.  I wouldn't be proud of going 1-8 during the Big 12 playing Texas either, if I were Nebraska.

Don't go away mad.  Just go away.

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

Let's see if we understand your silly article about Nebraska Football - Let see who has the power.
Texas is the second ranked NCAA Division I-A program in college football history, in terms of total wins, having passed  with win 831 on November 27, 2008.As of the end of the 2008 season, the Longhorns'  is 832-316-33 (.718). Only the  has won more games and a greater percentage of games played than Texas, which recorded its 800th victory with the Longhorns' 41-38 win over the  in the  at the . During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the program was somewhat less successful, but the Longhorns have since returned to prominence in college football, finishing in the top six of the AP and coaches' polls in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2008.
Nebraska has not been a top 10 National team in over 10 years.  Give me a break.  You think Texas got "beat up?"  Nebraska has been getting spanked in more ways than one - now GO Huskers and pick on Minnesota, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana - some real powerhouse football schools!

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

Honestly you cats need to quit jumping to the conclusion that I don’t follow this stuff really close. The Big 10 “is slow” is a really HOT topic for me (by the way OU graduated 2 Sfty’s two years ago that both ran 4.7’s, that wouldn’t get them on Iowa’s team) and I have followed it diligently for years. The Big 10 has so many more NFL alumni than the Big 12 it is laughable. More WR’s, QB’s, Lbers and I wouldn’t be surprised if DBs weren’t on that list as well. Thick ankled indeed.

Something else I have noticed as I perused team boards. When teams from other leagues, play a 13-12 game like the Big 12 Championship game or 16-13 games like OU-Texas they were defensive slugfests and a thing of beauty.

Yet when the Big 10 does it they are boring. Honestly it is more of what I said earlier, people can’t see past their biases and be honest with themselves. The SEC has played games like that for years, and the Big 10 is far from slow.

Finally I can’t hardly read that little font, sorry.

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

The bottom line is that Texas is that great sexy woman every man dreams of, but then turns out to be one high maintenance pain in the ass that's fun for a while but impossible to be around in the long run.  The best thing for Texas to do is go independent and spare some other unfortunate conference the pain, agony and pompous attitude.

You are a retard!! Tom Osborne is one of the most respected men in college athletics and he couldn't have handled this situation any better!!  Good on you Tom for handing it to those sissy horns!!  I wish my beloved Sooners would do the same.  Even Tex am is telling them where to go.  I loved the rivalry with Nebraska will always be some of my favorite college football memories.  NEBRASKA, PLEASE TAKE US WITH YOU!!!  The only reason our rivalry with Texas is so intense is simply because we hate everything about them!!  Everyone does. the lowest form of white man is a Texan!!  Good luck Huskers and hopefully we will still get to play you!  OU TO THE SEC!!

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

Chad cmhawk99

Texas could go to the Big 10 tomorrow, but they can’t bring along their cousins. Same goes with the PAC 10- to a lesser degree

Reduced the font, that posting looked like it was scrawled with a Crayola.

If you had taken a map of the United States and plotted the (former) Big 10 locations and then added Austin Texas, UT would have stuck out like sore thumb.  All the gossip about Texas going to the Big 10 was a bunch of hoi polloi designed to hype up and prepare the world for immediate conference changes.  A month ago the papers were full of stories that "realignment won't come for 2-3 years".  Now, it's happened in the space of 2 weeks.

Going to the Big 10 to play Michigan, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the ego maniacs in Columbus is no great shakes for teams in our part of the world.  It is thick ankled, high topped shoe, 3 yards in a cloud of astro turf, run only, getting all orgasmic about a 24 pass, 225 passing yard game style of football.

Let me get my Crayola out:

I don't know how the Big 10 will keep a big TV contract because viewers at home in front of the fireplace on a cold Saturday afternoon are probably asleep by the start of the 4th quarter.  Hard to sell beer, pick up trucks and razor blades when Pops is sawing logs stretched out in his Barcalounger.

And by the way, Texas makes a pile of money playing Oklahoma in Dallas every year.  The fans go to the fair, go to nice restaurants, stay in nice hotels, senior frat guys make memories for freshman sorority girls and blah blah blah.   I don't know if Ohio State and Michigan have made their annual tradition a money making proposition but sticking together is more than "kissing cousins" between OU and Texas.  Think Egyptian bazaars where coin is exchanged for goods and services.  It's more like the meeting of a divorced Mom and Dad when they exchange Junior for visitation every other week.  Daggers are sheathed for only a while.

Finally, Tom Osborne cracked back on our "kissing cousins" at OSU.  He said going to the Big 10 would make it easier to get to campuses for Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan because they could fly direct into major hub airports.  He said it was easier than "getting to Lubbock and Stillwater".  I don't disagree with Lubbock, its out in the sagebrush.  But geez Tom, Nebraska wandered around and found its way to Stillwater every other year for over 40 years while in the Big 8.  At worst, Nebraska had to fly from Omaha to Kansas City, transfer to a flight to Oklahoma City and then ride a bus about 65 miles to Stillwater.  If Tom went Greyhound his driver would go 406 miles down an interstate highway in about 7 hours.

Now, if Tom wants to go to University Park in Happy Valley to play Penn State he has to get his driver to go 1100 miles over 18 hours,on I-80.  Or, he can fly to Pittsburg and then go 85 miles by Greyhound to Penn State.  Maybe I'm biased but Stillwater doesn't sound as inaccessable as Happy Valley.

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

Texas slit it's own throat and slit the throat of several other schools along with them.  It was all about greed and now the Longhorns can just choke on all of that money and prestige they've lost.  No matter where they go, no matter who they take with them and/or wind up with as greedy "bedfellows," they've been exposed for who they are ... A GREEDY, BACK-STABBING, "ME-ABOVE-THE-REST" SECOND RATE SCHOOL!!!  Head on out to pasture Longhorns!!!  You jerks deserve to be in Division III!!!

Nebraska trounces Texas, moves to Big Ten

how is it that 2 teams begin the discussion of switching conferences a couple weeks ago (NU and Mizzou) and as a rebuttle, the entire collective of the big xii gives them an ultimatum (not just texas)...then 6 teams are rumored to move to the pac 10 (not just texas) and somehow the entire thing is texas's fault?

i suppose being the biggest and baddest of the group makes us an easy target, but the entire conference was upset with NU and Mizzou...and had you wanted a TV network, you should've passed it years ago (much like the big 10)...and because the big xii did not, texas did...

the set up of the big xii power structure was voted upon when it formed, and passed 11-1, and could've been changed, but nobody, not texas, not nebraska, not mizzou wanted to work together, hince, the big xii is no more...very sad, poor Kansas
