Dareus reportedly declared ineligible

HOOVER, Ala. -- You want surreal?

As Nick Saban was on the podium here at the SEC media days railing against agents, his star defensive lineman Marcel Dareus was declared ineligble. The Tuscaloosa News reported the news literally while Saban was in the process of calling agents "pimps."

I asked Saban as he came off the podium if the report was true, he got a quizzical look on his face and said, "That's not true." We'll know more as time goes on. The News cited an anonymous source. If Saban didn't know and if the report is true he is going to be a lot madder than he was Wednesday on the podium.

Typically in these cases the player is declared ineligible by the school. The school then works through the NCAA to reinstate him. Don't think that Dareus is necessarily done for the season.

Pete Carroll also said it was not true while USC dodged the bullet. Saban and Alabama have already been dodging. Maybe Urban Meyer is next. Wow, who cares anymore about the BCS issues, there just is NO Integrity in college football. Maybe the best two clean programs should play for the title regardless of their record.

Whats wrong with signing 100+ players over 4 years, when you can give 25 scholarships each year. Not to mention you can over sign when there are players that might not qualify. Anyway, players cannot be watched 24 hours a day, especially during the summer. Players know what they can and cannot do and these agents who tempt them are just as aware as they are. The University did not have anything to do with this player going to South Beach on some agents dime, but, it will the university that get punished. Total BS!

Agreed. Bama didn't get caught. In fact, they are helping in the investigation on this questionable agent's party for potential clients.
Saban had alot of good quotes today. Read or listen to them before being critical of the Tide program. I hate haters!

The fact of the matter is that u all want Alabama gone for one simple reason.... You can't beat them any other way...... That's why you always hear these "rumors" about Bama paying players etc, etc, started by jealous fans, mainly Auburn and Tenn but seems like LSU wants to join the party now. The comments about Saban's integrity and honesty are ignorant. You obviously know nothing about the guy..... I said all that to say this...... Keep dreamin clowns, we ain't leavin, we just gonna keep on rollin!!!!!

I agree. Death penalty for Bama. 5 infractions in 18 years. That's not easy.

Alabama....they just cannot seem to win anythingof value without having probation, forfeitures, ineligible players, agent involmentsetc..all the itmea needed for a Dirty Program.

WHATS"S UP WIH THAT?

oh let me guess....EVERYBODY does it...Bama just gets caught!!

It's time for the Death Penalty at College Football "Just Most Caught" Cheater...to

Let's get this straight. Bama didn't get caught, Dareus did. The only way Bama gets in trouble is if Bama tried to hide it. Bama reported it and if Dareus is guilty he'll be off the team. The Tide will roll on.

Bad Timing

wow, how unfortunate for a guy that is a great college coach, very poor pro coach, probably the RPitino of football, only minus the sex scandals and boost up the lying

Saban does his best as any other big time college football coach to field a team where only a few players have to be bribed to come play for him

college coaches have it very hard, considered dumb asses if they dont know thier players are cheating, considered cheaters if they know their players are cheating

each year the price to win seems to go up and up and up

maybe so much $$ in sports IS bad, go figure!

its time to stop these agents. the penaltys are against the school and kids who are playing by the rules (?).coachs leave, the player leaves and the both get payed and school loses.

Well if Saban said it wasn't true then of course it wasn't. I mean this is not a guy that has a history of going up to the podium and spinning lies to the media. He has of course never stood there and denied something or said he wasn't going to do something and then done it the next day.

This fine citizen Saban should be trusted just about as much as I would trust NFL agents......
