Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

Haden, USC's AD, was afraid to even take Bush's call. But Haden told the L.A. Times that Bush did not apologize during two recent phone calls contrary to what USA Today reported on Friday.

The NCAA has forced USC to disassociate itself from Bush. That's why Haden wasn't sure he could even take Bush's calls.

How this helps Bush or USC is beyond me. Bush is acting like a boyfriend who can't commit. Just say the words, "I'm sorry I screwed the entire university. I'll never be able to look myself in the mirror again."

Actually, yes, you do have to say "I take responsibility for it, and I'm sorry because it really was my fault".  There's a giant gap between good deeds and good intentions.  In American today, that gap has gotten even bigger.  Nobody seems to have character anymore.  It makes things worse for not only that person, but everyone involved.  It's a real shame.  Bush is a coward.

Your Tiger woods comparison is wrong, imo. Tiger cheated on his wife, he didn't cheat on the rules of golf or the fans. Tiger made one mistake, that was getting married too young and not experiencing life as a young man. Do I condone what Tiger did, no, but the fact is that what Tiger did is not anyone elses business. He was living his life and doing things he enjoyed no matter how wrong and morally skewed they were. Professional athletes are not role models. College athletes and Universities have to follw rules regarding their STUDENT athletes, this was violated by Reggie Bush and probably knowingly.

Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

Can someone explain how what Reggie Bush did helped USC win football games?  I understand that he violated the rules, but I do not see how what he did helped him or his team on the field or for that matter hurt another player or another team.  I have no dog in this fight, just curious.

Most illiterate comment I've ever read on CBSSPORTSLINE in 2+ years. Who used who? Social and Economic Justice... for whom? The kids there today and in the future that actually go there for what the institution itself was etsablished for i.e. an education?

Reggie Bush went there with the sole purpose of using USC for everything he could get of them i.e. what USC could do for him!! Which by the way was anything but an education... something you clearly lack as well.

Exploited him? Kept him on the plantation? Do you think he would be making millions with the Saints without USC?

Reggie cheated, PLAIN & SIMPLE!!! College educations are not cheap, neither are all the benefits affored to student-athletes, key word here being STUDENT!!! Same goes for O.J. Mayo, Student Athlete!!! The coaches do not always know, though I think most of them do, in some way. I think that the JERKOFF Boosters, who give into these greedy kids whims are just as much to blame for the problem as the players and the agents who end up representing them when they turn pro are. It also has to go back to the recruiting process, when these players are courted by the coaches and end up virtually choosing the school which gives them their stage to show what they can do, so they can get that huge payday. As for him to apologize, I give one less crap whether he does or not. He knows he screwed his alma mater, whether he can or should be able to even call it that anymore or not. He knows he cheated the system, and it wasn't just because the money was supposedly just thrown at him, it was HIS OWN GREED!!!!!!! His family should have helped him follow the rules, not circumvent them. Therefore, I could give two less poops about them either, GREEDY POS's!!! He earned his Heisman, that was through his on-field accomplishments. He should not have to return it, or send it to Vince Young. He doesn't just own an apology to the university, its past and current and future players, he owes an apology to the many fans who supported his sorry butt, when he knew he was screwing the university he claimed to love and supposedly was loyal to.

So Reggie, keep your Heisman, you earned it. But do yourself a favor and keep your hollow and shallow attempts at an apology to yourself. Unless you really mean it and are ready to apologize to those who you really screwed, THE TRUE FANS!!! OH and your fellow athletes at the school you royally screwed over through the sanctions that are now imposed.
