Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

Haden, USC's AD, was afraid to even take Bush's call. But Haden told the L.A. Times that Bush did not apologize during two recent phone calls contrary to what USA Today reported on Friday.

The NCAA has forced USC to disassociate itself from Bush. That's why Haden wasn't sure he could even take Bush's calls.

How this helps Bush or USC is beyond me. Bush is acting like a boyfriend who can't commit. Just say the words, "I'm sorry I screwed the entire university. I'll never be able to look myself in the mirror again."

Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

In my opinion I do not believe Reggie Bush was sincere in his statement reportedly made to Pat Haden.  If he was truly sorry he'd say it and not beat around the bush (no pun intended).  But to say he's sorry would mean he'd have to admit he was wrong, which his ego will not let him do.  Bush likely feels bad because he was caught, exposed and his name is now meaningless to many Trojan fans.  In fact I am glad the university has banned him and removed his jersey, etc. from Heritage Hall.  He no longer deserves to be memorialized in HH with all the great Trojans who played by the rules.  As it was said by Ving Rhames (as Marsellus Wallace) in Pulp Fiction....he's lost his LA priveldges.  But don't get me wrong, I very much enjoyed watching him run and his presence on the field often changed the dynamics of the game at that moment.  However, as a die-hard Troajn fan I do not want our victories tainted in any way and players who can not follow the rules should be kicked out of our program.

FYI, I was at that BCS Championship game in Miami and I thought Bush played a small part in that victory.  It was Matt Lienart, Steve Smith and Lendale White that ruled the day.  That game wasn't even a contest after the 2nd Qt.  Why couldn't that idiot Bush at least wait until the season was over before breaking the rules.  I know why...because he's a selfish, greedy a-hole.  Same goes for his stupid @ss stepdad.  The millions and eternal Trojan love would have been there had he just waited for his NFL payday to come after his SC playing days were over.

Fight On!

Beat the Warriors!!

Racism doesn't prevent people from reading books, doing their math, going to school regularly.   If you want to take care of your
family then make your kids go to school and learn.  That is the best way to take care of your family.   I have lived with inner
city kids all my life and a lot of them just pass up the opportunity to do well in school.   Then they blame society that
they got a girl pregnant, not take responsibility for their actions.   Then they say they have to steal, sell drugs to take care
of their family.   They usually steal so they can pay for their drug problem.   If I am racist, which I'm sure by your
definition I am.   I still believe if everyone truly wants to take care of their family they can do it the honest way.  It's
not always the easy way, but they can make it work.    Reggie Bush could have gotten away with some of the free things
if he didn't do it so lavishly.  Luxury items were not needed.

"Can't blame a guy for tryin' to take care of his family."

Yeah I'm sure his family went through real financial hardship before they were gifted free housing.

"USC used and exploited him, and kept him on the plantation."

So what was Bush's alternatives if you're alluding that collegiate sports exploits student-athletes?  Sure he could of took his talents to the CFL or other second-rate football league in order to sit out the manditory three year NFL waiting period, but he would have a fraction of the exposure.  Let's face it, NCAA football is the best way to audition for a NFL job.  Less than 1% will make it, but for those who don't they assumingly earn a degree and become like most normal young professional adults.  Most people would pay for this opportunity--I did, but I wasn't good enough to make the team.  And I would have been more than happy to pay to play college football.

Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

A lot of people on here are trying to study a plane crash site with a microscope. This is illustrated by one's comment that Bush should send Vince Young his Heisman Trophy. As if VY and nobody else at UT get perks, under-the-table payoffs, etc. You think Boosters at OU are the only ones in the BIX XII paying kids for jobs they don't even show up to?  These coaches want it both ways. They go in living rooms to tell parents that their player will be part of a FAMILY at his school. but when a kid is caught with improper cash or bling, the coach cries "...we can't watch what they do away from campus 24/7..." The idea that Stoops was glorified for cutting Bomar is such a joke. Show me a BCS conference coach that doesn't keep very tight tabs on his QB's schedule, especially in the SUMMER, when its primetime to mix with booster, get in trouble, etc. They keep tabs on their star QB.   If that same scandal was uncovered at TT, A&M or Baylor the program would have been hammered by the NCAA.

The NCAA's punishment of USC is a convenient defense to the obvious fact that the NCAA will bend over backwards to not hurt one of its cash cows. But the NCAA held the USC punishment like an Ace up its sleeve  (really, the facts in the Bush case took 5 years to investigate?) and played it to punish the Pac 10 for its attempted coup of massive conference re-allignment (which would have cost the NCAA a lot of power, influence and $$$).

College Football is a corrupt scam. Damn fun on Saturdays, but a corrupt scam nonetheless.

Edwards 1989; I could not have said it any better!!  Exploited him?  What a joke!  Does he not know the difference between right and wrong?  Helping his parents?  He knew he would make millions the millisecond he entered the NFL.  The greedy jerk wasn't able to wait the 48 months until he signed that obscene contract with the Saints and then help his parents.  I wonder what they have to say about all this?  It isn't too hard to figure out where Reggie learned this dishonest way of doing things.

Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

While Reggie Bush may need to look long and hard at himself in the mirror, I hardly think that he owes USC an apology, Why? Because contrary to the double speak sewage which has spewed forth from Pete Carroll's trap, there is absolutely NO WAY he did not know what was going on. Carroll either chose to look the other way or, more than likely, supported it entirely. While Bush had to know deep down his actions were wrong, it had to be hard to turn down the offers when the coaches had no problem with it. This is just the university's way of deflecting away from its own serious transgressions. Carroll should be the one apologizing on his hands and knees rather than trying to sell his fictional book.

Pat Haden says Reggie Bush did not apologize

What are you trying to say? That because Reggie says he feels bad for what the U is going through Haden should accept this as an apology because Bush may be incapable of admitting actual wrongdoing or guilt?

Civilized society cannot pretend the two concepts are the same. Bush needs to at least mature enough to learn the life skill of making a real apology.

I would be willing to bet the NCAA and millions of college football fans have the same "Feels bad for what USC is going through" feelings, but the difference is that they didn't cause these events to occur. Reggie did, and refusing to admit his very substantial role should not be forgiven by fans who think "I feel bad" is an apology while he keeps his trophy and millions and career.
