Report: Big East interest in TCU

Citing anonymous sources, the New York Post is reporting that the Big East is interested in adding TCU.

Forget the geographic ramifications. TCU plays in the Mountain West Conference, but is nowhere near mountains in the west. The Big East is probably willing to do anything, including adding a school from Texas, to keep itself relevant. The names of Temple and Villanova have already been tossed around as future additions, at least in football.

That said, I guess this makes some sort of sense if the Big East believes it can add a market in Dallas-Fort Worth. TCU basketball is, at best, struggling. Both entities, TCU and the Big East, would be desperate to have access to an automatic BCS bowl berth in the future. That would be a heck of commute, though, for the Rutgers volleyball team.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said via text he was "surprised" at the report. A message left for TCU AD Chris Del Conte was not immediately returned.

Absolutely moronic. Why don't they try to steal Colorado out of the Pac Ten. Hey wait. The Atlanta Braves did play in the NL West for about 35 years.

Wow I never knew the Mountain West lived in such a dreamland!  They must be the best conference in College sports with giants like Nevada, and TCU, WOW!  Common people most of the teams in this conference aren't even reported on outside the local areas, and the ones that are are only done so every 10 years when they come up with an all time great bunch of players like Boise is doing this year, next year back to losing.

What I find even more funny is the fact that Temple and Villanova's names are getting thrown around for addition into the football conference. Didn't we just kick Temple out awhile back?  And what good will either of these programs do to the Big East.

Man, I regret becoming a fan of Big East football. Been that way since I was a kid, and sometimes, I wonder why I still am a fan of the conference. They're so stupid.

I doubt they will bother with the BE.  The conference is ready to disband anyway with some lucky schools maybe getting picked up by the ACC, Big 10 plus 2 and the SEC

Report: Big East interest in TCU

In your expanded vs. expanded, match it up like this and factor in who wins over the last several years, not just this season.

1. TCU vs. TCU - no effect
2. Houston vs. Houston - No effect
3. WVU vs. Boise - MWC+1
4. Pitt vs. Nevada - BE+1
5. Cincy vs. Air Force - BE +1
6. USF vs. Fresno - BE+1

Looking at the top 1/2, over the last few years, the BE would be significantly better.

7. Rutgers vs. SMU - wash
8. Uconn vs. Wyoming - BE+1
9. Louisville vs. SDSU - Wash
10. Memphis vs. Col. St - Wash or BE+1
11. Syracuse vs. UNLV - Wash or BE+1
12. Villanova vs. New Mexico - wash or MWC+1

The bottom half is closer, but I would take the new BE as far as overall over the last few years.

MWC still is better than Big East in both divisions.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

I agree this makes little sense, one could have seen this coming for years MWC has been percieved to be better that the BCS Big East, I Agree TCU, needs a travel buddy, and I agree that Houston would then make the most sense. What I would potential see is that Memphis also joins because it has a strong BB, football could be better, and has rivals with Cincinnati , and louisville, plus it would unit more of the teams that bare major city names, like, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Louisville, syracuse.  Plus the big east can now recruit better in texas, and in florida to huge football states,

Villanova has been formally invited to play football in the Big East, my bet is they debate and say yes.

The Big East needs to say to everyone but Notre Dame and maybe Marquette, to join in football or get out
Heres what the Big East should look like.

1. West Virginia
2. Connecticut
3. Syracuse
4. Pittsburgh
5. Rutgers
6. Villanova

7. Cincinnati
8. Louisville
9. Memphis
10. Houston
11. Texas Christian
12. South Florida

I know theyres other teams out there like East Carolina, even Charlotte 49ers, UAB, and Central Florida.

what do you think?

Report: Big East interest in TCU

At first I thought this made no sense.  People say TCU's travel budget would completely offset any gains from BCS revenue.

So I looked it up.

Big East flight distances from DFW airport:

UConn - 1467
Rutgers-1381
Syracuse - 1332
Pitt - 1077
WVU - 1058
USF - 933
Cincy - 825
Louisville - 734

New MWC distances:

Nevada - 1348
Fresno - 1316
Boise - 1275
SDSU - 1170
UNLV - 1056
Wyoming - 748
Colo. St - 693
Air Force - 599
New Mexico - 572

I don't see much of a difference, really.

As for the expectations regarding the MWC getting an auto-bid.  Noithing is certain.  Going Big East would guarantee an auto-bid.  holding out may not get them one.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

As a big east fan, it is truly sad watching our conference's death. But, what can you do? College football as a whole is controlled by money, which the big east can't make par in anymore (thanks ACC!). Oh well, it will be fun watching us run the table come basketball season.
