Report: Big East interest in TCU

Citing anonymous sources, the New York Post is reporting that the Big East is interested in adding TCU.

Forget the geographic ramifications. TCU plays in the Mountain West Conference, but is nowhere near mountains in the west. The Big East is probably willing to do anything, including adding a school from Texas, to keep itself relevant. The names of Temple and Villanova have already been tossed around as future additions, at least in football.

That said, I guess this makes some sort of sense if the Big East believes it can add a market in Dallas-Fort Worth. TCU basketball is, at best, struggling. Both entities, TCU and the Big East, would be desperate to have access to an automatic BCS bowl berth in the future. That would be a heck of commute, though, for the Rutgers volleyball team.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said via text he was "surprised" at the report. A message left for TCU AD Chris Del Conte was not immediately returned.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

Probably won't happen, but Im sure the Big East will throw enough money at them to make them think about it. Not to mention the Big East has a BCS invite ... TCU currently would clean up on this year after year. What would be funny ... is Boise St would be left in another s h itty conference, lol.

Original comment: "Even though Texas is not east"     I've always wondered why the Dallas Cowboys are in the NFC East.. They should possibly move the St Louis Rams into the East Division. It is slightly more east than Dallas. and put Dallas in the NFC West.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

The simple fact of the matter is the Big East has to get to 12 football programs to survive.  Everyone knows this, including rival conferences like the Big Ten that have designs on plucking another school or two from the BE.
So how about this:

Eastern Division:

South Florida
Central Florida

Western Division:

W. Va.

Perfect, no.  Viable, maybe.  This would add four major makets to the conference: Memphis, Orlando, Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston.  Not bad.  And thus the BE could have a champioship game.  How about alternating venues between the new Cowboys Stadium and the new Yankee Stadium.  That would be sweet.  And while several posters have pointed out, and rightfully so, that Texas isn't the east, I want to ask what division are the Cowboys in?  The NFC...what?  Where are their rivals from? NY?  Philly? DC?  Seems like a fit to me.  If Dallas folks can hate the Giants why not hate Rutgers too?

West Virginia lost by 6 to LSU.  What if LSU goes to the title game, and WV finishes 11-1 and massacres someone in a BCS bowl.  Does the conference still suck then?

Meanwhile, Bama is 4-0, and have played one good team, one so-so bowl team, and 2 tomato cans, and people are talking about them like they're the best team of all time.

It amazes me how people can take just a small piece of information and just blindly assume that it tells the whole story.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

The Big East will never be broken up.  It is the premier conference in college basketball, which is much more popular than college football.  The football side sucks because of VT, BC and Miami leaving.  They really screwed up not bringing in better teams to replace them years ago.  Adding TCU would be great for TCU's basketball program and great for the BEAST's football rep, not to mention adding a Texas market couldn't hurt ratings either.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

Agreed, Big 12 is a better fit. Big East?? Come on now, and at least TCU IS reasonably close to the mountains in the west. What's next? Navy to the Pac 10? Wyoming to the SEC? Gimme a break. If those schools were big money, bet they'd think about it. Uggh

Report: Big East interest in TCU

Big East is grasping at straws at this point.  Maybe they should go after Boise State.  All kidding aside, TCU would not see the benefit considering their travel budget would wipe out much of the gains from being part of the Big East.  Isn't the Big 12 looking to fill two spots?
