Report: Big East interest in TCU

Citing anonymous sources, the New York Post is reporting that the Big East is interested in adding TCU.

Forget the geographic ramifications. TCU plays in the Mountain West Conference, but is nowhere near mountains in the west. The Big East is probably willing to do anything, including adding a school from Texas, to keep itself relevant. The names of Temple and Villanova have already been tossed around as future additions, at least in football.

That said, I guess this makes some sort of sense if the Big East believes it can add a market in Dallas-Fort Worth. TCU basketball is, at best, struggling. Both entities, TCU and the Big East, would be desperate to have access to an automatic BCS bowl berth in the future. That would be a heck of commute, though, for the Rutgers volleyball team.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said via text he was "surprised" at the report. A message left for TCU AD Chris Del Conte was not immediately returned.

This makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER; this would be akin to Ford buying L'Oreal and saying its part of their initiative to get women consumers to buy their cars.  Boy, these college conferences seem to get stupider and stupider and greedier and greedier to get any kind of hand on BCS money.  I have a better idea for the Big East, why don't you try to get North Dakota State so that you can have access to the Fargo TV market.  Idiots!

This would fit right in with how out of freakin' whack college football has become.  As a Big East fan I would love to have TCU.  The travel would not be that much more than going to Marquette.  So the travel thing is bogus.  Why is a Nebraska trip to Penn State in the Big Te no big deal to you people?  WVU to TCU is no different.  College football is full of more hypocrits than any other entity in the entire world.

Why do people think the BE is in a hurry to get rid of their non-football schools.  Marquette has consistently been one of the best in the conference, St. Johns is one of the winningest b-ball teams of all time, Villanova has the Philly market plus they are a strong 1aa football team.

I started thinking about how that would play out, moving Mq and D-P to the Horizon, Nova, Providence, Seton Hall, and SJU to the A-10, and where does Georgetown go?  The Colonial?  Holy crap some of the mid-major conferences could get really really strong.  The CAA and Horizon have produced final 4 teams, the A-10 too, this could make those guys big players...just got to divest the crap schools like Fordham and Youngstown and though it hurts my heart to say it Georgia St.

Sorry, hoop mags are out.   I'm fine with TCU to the Big East.  Shame on the B12 for not chasing after them.  I think Charlotte and UCF will eventually land in the B-E as well, and let's be honest if TCU gets in Houston would make sense too, or East Carolina.

Anyone else notice that despite the outrage over the prospect of Boise in the title game, you don't hear anything comparable about the idea of TCU or Utah getting there?

Sorry but Temple, and Villanova, and the like all bring the same thing as TCU, next to nothing this is not a "big time school"  Thats about the funniest thing I have read in this thread.  All the Big East schools are much larger schools and much better football programs, like the other post said, a one loss big east team is going to the Orange, Fiesta or Sugar bowl, #2 is going to the Gator, not the Las Vegas bowl or the Motor City bowl!  There is a reason wheather you are able to see it or not that, the MWC is what it is and where it is, and the Big East is an automatic BCS conference.

Cheecat...the BE doesn't need any more basketball schools.  That's what has gotten them into the mess they are in, as is the case with the ACC.  If the other schools are cool with travel, then they really should make it happen.  TCU is on it's way up in football and could a potential championship contender with a major conference affiliation (which is BS that it has to be that way).  The money is there for the taking because none of the current BE schools look to be making a push for true national contention anyway.  They would come in and be the immediate favorite to win the BE and the automatic BCS bowl berth that comes with it.  I like the idea of adding another smaller school with a legit football program like a Houston, but man, making that kind of travel for both schools would be really tough, they would have a serious headache when it came to scheduling.

USF is nowhere near the rest of the league, either, but nobody complains about that.  The conference wanted to get into a big market in Florida, and USF was available.  As for TCU, i think bringing them in with a Houston, as well as adding UCF from Orlando, makes sense from a travel perspective.

Of course the Big East wants TCU. Who wouldn't want a top 10 program located in Texas? The Big Least has 0 top 25 teams while the MWC and WAC each have 2. The only thing the Big East has going for it is BCS money, but after all the conference shake ups I'm not sure if that will last for much longer.

What really needs to happen is the NCAA needs to force Notre Dame to join a conference. ND will join the Big East. Problem solved.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

The conference is having a down year. It happens. Rutgers sophmore qb came into the year with most starts out of any team in the conference. Is there any surprise that they are getting beat up with such young qb's ? Nova jumping up divisions would be great and I predict they would get more than enough talent within 3-4 years to be top 25 every year. TCU and Houston would be good additions if they could pull that off.
