Report: Big East interest in TCU

Citing anonymous sources, the New York Post is reporting that the Big East is interested in adding TCU.

Forget the geographic ramifications. TCU plays in the Mountain West Conference, but is nowhere near mountains in the west. The Big East is probably willing to do anything, including adding a school from Texas, to keep itself relevant. The names of Temple and Villanova have already been tossed around as future additions, at least in football.

That said, I guess this makes some sort of sense if the Big East believes it can add a market in Dallas-Fort Worth. TCU basketball is, at best, struggling. Both entities, TCU and the Big East, would be desperate to have access to an automatic BCS bowl berth in the future. That would be a heck of commute, though, for the Rutgers volleyball team.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said via text he was "surprised" at the report. A message left for TCU AD Chris Del Conte was not immediately returned.

TCU would go from a crappy (but improving) non-BCS confrence to a crappy BCS confrence.

I am sorry but this makes absolutely no friggin sense...I know we are desperate to add some real talent to BE football but please.....We can't find a talent like TCU in our own region. If the answer is no then the BE (football anyway) needs to break up and send it's teams in different directions.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

The Rugters volleyball teams get on an airplane and flies to Louisville Ky, Cincinnati Ohio, or for God's sake TAMPA, FLA for a volleyball match.... or Dallas Texas.... What's the difference folks... Well, there isn't much. What, you think they take a bus to Louisville. That's funny

The Big East lack of talent?  They sure win a lot of bowl games every year.

I find this hilarious. The Big East is looking to add Temple to gain credibility? Temple was a perennial 0-2 win team back in the day. Put them back in the Big East, and as weak as it is, it would happen again and you are right back where you started.

Like moving to the Mountain West made a lot of sense...riiiight. You guys must be cross eyed or something. Moving to the Big East makes same sense as Mountain West. What? You think TCU is at the foot of the mountains?

Report: Big East interest in TCU

Who ever said that Villanova would only add to the conference in Basketball must not realize that Nova already plays Big East Bball.
They only play FCS football though, even though they would beat half of the big east FBS teams this year.

Since they recently one a Division 1 FCS national football title, it makes perfect sense for them to move up to the FBS level and join the Big East for football as well.
Think of it like an expansion in the pro leagues.
Villanova already has the mind share. Putting them in a BCS conference gives them instant credibility in many ways.
PLus they already have a great program.

Adding TCU is just silly.

The Mountain West still has a good chance at getting the 7th automatic bid in 2012.
They should get another two BCS bids  this year and they might even get a national title contender. Remember that by adding Boise St they get all of Boise States accomplishments over the 4 year period.

When the reeval comes up, the MWC should finish ahead of the Big East.

But don't worry Big East fans, the BCS allows for up to 7 auto bid conferences.
With the top 3 leaving the WAC and the C-USA losing some of their best schools already, no one else comes close.

after the next eval, They will just add the MWC as an auto league with teams such as BSU, TCU, Nevada, Airforce and Fresno.
Two elite programs, 3 solid programs a couple of average programs and a couple of lousy programs at the bottom.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

If the Big East is really that desperate, why not break it up completely and split the remaining parts between the ACC, SEC, and maybe even the Big 10. Geographically, there are teams that would fit nicely into each conference and many of them were rumored to have been courted by some of the aforementioned conferences anyway.  Since all this conference shuffling is really about money anyway, teams would likely stand to gain more revenue being in stronger conferences in the long run.
