Report: Big East interest in TCU

Citing anonymous sources, the New York Post is reporting that the Big East is interested in adding TCU.

Forget the geographic ramifications. TCU plays in the Mountain West Conference, but is nowhere near mountains in the west. The Big East is probably willing to do anything, including adding a school from Texas, to keep itself relevant. The names of Temple and Villanova have already been tossed around as future additions, at least in football.

That said, I guess this makes some sort of sense if the Big East believes it can add a market in Dallas-Fort Worth. TCU basketball is, at best, struggling. Both entities, TCU and the Big East, would be desperate to have access to an automatic BCS bowl berth in the future. That would be a heck of commute, though, for the Rutgers volleyball team.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said via text he was "surprised" at the report. A message left for TCU AD Chris Del Conte was not immediately returned.

No chance

I agree, this has no chance of happening. Location of course is the obvious reason but also not to be underestimated is the importance of basketball.  TCU has no basketball to speak of and the Big East is most importantly a basketball conference and cannot afford to water down the quality THIS much.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

I can see it's desparation time for the Big East. Can't say as I blame them. Look at that Conf and it's teams......hard to make a case that they deserve a BCS bid. So adding TCU at least puts a big time team in a very very very weak conf. Sorry but Villanova and Temple does not bring a lot to the table, not like TCU does. Even though Texas is not east, Big East needs something like this or else cause their teams are really not good.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE TO INCLUDE THEM IN THE BIG 12, BUT TEXAS POLITICS AND DIVISION OF MONEY WOULD PROBABLY BLOCK THAT MOVE.  ADDING MEMPHIS WITH TCU WOULD ALSO ADD POPULATION CENTERS AND 1 FOOTBALL AND 1 BASKETBALL POWERTO THE BIG 12.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

It doesn't matter if the MWC has better teams than the Big East or not.  The truth is in the MWC you lose one game you are playing in the Las Vegas or Armed Forces Bowl.  In the Big East you lose only one game you are probably playing in the Orange or Sugar Bowls.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

This is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Not gonna happen. The Mountain West is growing and I would take alot of teams in the MWC over most Big East teams any day. TCU isnt that stupid.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

While I agree that this makes little sense, if both sides were desperate enough to do this, the Big East should add Houston also so TCU would have a travel partner and natural rival in the Big East.

Report: Big East interest in TCU

That makes no Logistical sense, but the BCS $ would help cover some of the travel costs I guess.

Would this mean I have to quit bagging on the Big East for their lack of football talent?
