BCS Week 2 projection

It looks like it's going to be good week for Auburn in the BCS.

The way things are going, though, a week is as much the Tigers can hope for at this point. They seem to be the biggest beneficiary of Missouri's upset of BCS No. 1 Oklahoma on Saturday night. The Tigers are projected to be No. 1 in the BCS on Sunday, followed by Oregon according Jerry Palm's projected BCS standings. Auburn came into Saturday No. 4 in the BCS.

The projection was made before the coaches' and Harris polls -- the two human components of the BCS -- were released on Sunday. Palm said the ranking depends on what the voters do with Auburn after its victory over LSU. Auburn began the day No. 5 in both the Harris and coaches' polls. If the Tigers were to jump over TCU -- No. 3 in Harris, No. 4 in coaches' -- then it could be safely in the top two in the BCS.

After that impressive 60-13 win over UCLA on Thursday, Palm projects that previous No. 1 Oregon will be No. 2 in the BCS. Losses by Oklahoma, LSU and Oklahoma State mean there are seven undefeated teams remaining, only four of them (Auburn, Missouri, Oregon and Michigan State) are from BCS conferences.

Auburn can't celebrate too much. Missouri's victory marked the third consecutive week a No. 1 has gone down on the road. The Tigers travel to Ole Miss this week. For the second consecutive week the BCS and human polls seemingly will be split with Auburn No. 1 in the BCS and Oregon No. 1 in the AP and coaches' polls.

Auburn would become the 13th No. 1 team in the history of the BCS, the fifth from the SEC. The official BCS standings will be released Sunday night.

Absolutely soesahed, what a brilliant comment. Cam Newton is just an average QB. That is clearly demonstrated by the fact he only threw for 86 yards. Your knowledge of College Football astounds me. Newton was just very lucky on that unbelievable 49 yard run against LSU. Your input is very valuable to the entire College Football world. Thanks.

Looks like two of the best three teams are from the same state. Auburn and Oregon deserve 1 and 2, but let's face it, Bama had to have a letdown at some point but there is no doubt the Crimson Tide are probably one of the best, if not the best, in the nation. If Auburn beats Bama, then it definitely gets to play for the title. But if Bama does, it should, because who else you gonna put in there, Boise? Are you kidding me?

BCS Week 2 projection

It's quite simple guys ..... a playoff. D2 and D3 both have one and 2 teams play one extra game than they do now, the rest of the schools play thesame or less. It's no surprise to anyone why they don't  .. money , money , money. They aren't going to risk all teh money they make now for money they may make in a playoff system. Not to mention ... all these powerhouse conferences, NCAA and all teh otehr schools would never ever ever agree on anything in a playoff system. Everyone will want more than their fair share. Only possible way a playoff could happen is if Boise plays TCU and the big boys get upset. I don't think Boise deserves to go to the National Championship in teh current system ... but I do believe they deserve a shot as does any team having a spectacular season. Championships shouldn't be decided in rooms across America based on a person's opinion.

BCS Week 2 projection

If Auburn does get the #1 spot it is Bull Crap. The Eastcoast Bias wins again. Oregon is #1 in both the Coach's and the Harris polls. The CPU rankings always bias higher percentages the farther east you go. Everyone knows after the pounding the Oregon Ducks gave UCLA on Thursday that they should be #1 in the BCS and Auburn #2. Even the Auburn fans should man up and admit it, but of course they won't. They will just slip in there and think they deserve it when they don't. They deserve the #2 spot at this point.

Hey Doc  ... maybe they beat everyone in front of them cause they only play 2 games a year. I mean really ... the SEC plays more top 25 competition in 1 year than they have in the past 5. The best win Boise ever had was against Oklahoma and TCU ... Oklahoma was a fluke ... everyone knows it. And TCU is a mid BCS conference as well. Boise is a great team in a crap conference but they aren't number 1. You can't tell me they are going to go undefeated playing 8 teams on par or better than a Va Tech. In the SEC ... they would be battling it out for 4th or 5th. By the way .... a Va Tech the refs helped them win against. You guys can get over it now though ... they won't make the Championship game ... yet again because they don't deserve to.

Ever watch a pee-wee football game with 10 year olds?  ... Pop Warner or little league?  I watched one Saturday at 3:30pm on CBS TV.  Or atleast Auburn runs that type of offense that you might see at a little league game.  And, they ran the same offensive play over and over... .  I don't think that's exciting.

Why is Boise St best team in country? Auburn has same record and has beaten 4 Top 25 teams. Thats a fact. They took out margin of victory out of BCS and rightfully so. Who cares how many points a team wins by? Style points mean nothing. Auburn could have easily tacked on a TD yesterday and instead kneeled. 31-17 would have looked more impressive right?..

BCS Week 2 projection

As a lifelong MSU fan who has spent the last 25 years in the NW & now roots for Oregon as well, I'm fine with Auburn vaulting to #1.

It's silly to worry about rankings when the top teams have some serious games left on the schedule. Auburn still has to play @Mississippi & @Alabama, with Georgia in between. Oregon still has to play @Southern Cal next week, & "The Civil War" against Oregon State is in Corvallis to close the season. Missouri has to play @Nebraska, plus (most likely) whoever wins the South (which might well be Oklahoma). Michigan State still has a tough road game @Iowa & has not finished a good season strongly in 40 years, Boise State is @Utah, & even TCU still has a pothole ahead when they play @Nevada.

I see no reason for fans to get uptight over rankings that will change -perhaps dramatically- over the next five weeks. Until we get a true playoff to decide our national champion it's all just whistling in the dark, anyway. . . and most years it ain't even whistling in tune.
