No Auburn statement

Posted on: November 10, 2010 11:19 am

There will be no statement forthcoming from Auburn regarding the latest allegations from ESPN.com, a school spokesman said Wednesday morning.

That seemingly is a change in the school's stance since Friday. The school, particularly Gene Chizik, has vehemently stated on many occassions that quarterback Cam Newton is eligible. Chizik said Tuesday that, "I'm trying to defend something that is quite frankly garbage. Is there a wizard behind the curtain? I don't know."

ESPN.com reported Tuesday night that Cecil Newton told a Mississippi State recruiter that it would take "more than a scholarship" to get his son to Starkville.

The next comment out of Chizik is likely to come today when he speaks on the SEC coaches conference call at approximately 12:30 p.m. ET.

JB:  I'm almost of the opinion, especially after Dodd's write up on Cam's traffic tickets, that it's become "I wonder what crazy a$$ stuff I can make up and get people to believe."  Like you said, who believes Cam would call a MSU "recruiter," which casts more questions on the "story" and MSU, and tell them he got more money from Auburn?  And that wouldn't have had the SEC and NCAA all up in Auburn's business?  And still have it so the NCAA hasn't seen fit to open an investigation on Auburn?  It's an example of how easily the media can be manipulated.  The same author's article has been copied and pasted with additional editorial thoughts with no facts to back up anything.  This has helped those that actually do work for their stories...meaning do work other than blogging their stories and actually researching/digging.  It's made their jobs fairly easy as they don't have to dig much to punch more holes in the stories than a picture of George W hanging in the mideast.

Did everyone read Cam's statement when asked about Urban's Meyer's possible involvement in the releasing of his Confidential Student Records -- which of course have NEVER BEEN VERIFIED... Cam has stayed very classy throughout this witchhunt -- and he said that the Meyer he knew was a "man of integrity"... Keep fueling this kid's fire -- as if they needed too. AU is going to roll the Dawgs this weekend like they haven't had a beat down in quite some time.  Cam goes for 200+ yards rushing in this one.. AU is going to to hang 50+ on them (the AU secondary may give up several to those GA receivers)  but AU wins by 3 TDS!

Would these hacks really have us believe that Cam Newton - or anyone could be that dumb.  He's going to call a recruiter from another school that he just turned down, and actually tell him: "yeah - they offered me $$ to go to Auburn".. How come NO OTHER SCHOOL, other than the Jilted Bride MSU has reported ANY OFFERINGS from ANYONE related to Cam?? Don't you think they'd have gone after the big pockets at Oklahoma... Bob Stoops said there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING at all strange about Cam's recruitment..  Give it up Miss St -- your vendictive attempts to sully Auburn's season will only backfire!

Roll Tide Saban -- appreciate the comments.. I've seen so many from other fans across the country -- who even though they admittedly hate Auburn (for rivalry purposes).. they know that all this cruxification without any validation is just ridiculous.  There are so many hidden agendas at play here -- we'll probably never know the real truth.  Did Cam mess up while he was at UF -- Of course he did.  But you have to consider the environment.. Why is nobody writing about the 30+ arrests under Meyer's 6-year tenure there?? they are the new Thug U!

I am a Kentucky fan and I think that this is getting ridiculous. Cecil Newton saying, "it is going to take more than a scholarship", doesn't necessarily mean money. When I chose my alma matter, I had scholarships from numerous schools (as did Newton). Therefore, it took more than just a scholarship for me to make my decision. The media manipulates public opinion way to often and easily. They tell us who we should vote for in public election. They tell us which athletes we should support and which we should cast stones at. I feel terrible for Cam because at such a young age, he has had to deal with non believers for quite some time! All of these reports are hearsay. None of them include fact based support and I refuse to believe any of them until something is said and it is KNOWN to be true. I hope he finishes the year off with the Heisman and the National Championship followed by a cleared name by the NCAA. Haters are going to hate. If the kid from Oregon wins the Heisman, I will be extremely upset because the media has failed to manipulate public opinion of him and the assault charges against him by his girlfriend.

The NCAA needs to reform their way of doing things. No school would knowingly play an ineligible player. They shouldn't deem someone eligible and then after the fact make the school vacate their wins and punish them. It is obvious the NCAA's fault for deeming the player eligible in the first place. They are sucking everything enjoyable about the sport. Furthermore, coaches and players should show more integrity.

Who's going to be investigating that almost all of these new "stories" are coming from one hack writer - Thayer Evans of FoxSports.com... a guy known for "taking liberties" by publishing with either NO FACTS or imbellishing/ommitting certain things.  I find it rather strange that his last 2 articles are now BLOCKING COMMENTS.. hmmm... they lead off with titles like "Source" or "Report" but then have NO ACTUAL quotes from anyone.  And the ONLY so-called reports are still coming from Miss State recruiters and/or boosters, and from phantom sources at UF.   This all smells of such a "Jilted Bride" story.. only in this case Cam left not 1, but 2 Brides at the Altar!

I'm a massive Bama fan obviously, but I absolutely hate this. No matter what the outcome of all of this, the SEC, Auburn, and even Alabama are hurt. The Iron Bowl is the best rivalry in college football because it's in state and the hatred is second to none. Regardless of how much I hate Auburn, I still want them to be a good team every November because I want the Iron Bowl to be top dog again not only in terms of hatred but also in national prominence.

Whether true or false, all this Cam garbage tarnishes everything.

Exactly.  They at some point have to carry on with business as usual as much as possible.  They are there to coach the football team and not respond to the same unsubstantiated story over and over.  This is just a new version of the same story, with one more unreliable source than before.  Their batting average on these stories aren't too good so far.  Let the real reporters go out and do their jobs.  If the trend continues, we'll continue to see the gradual discrediting of Thayer Evans.

Why would Auburn make a statement, unless they have violated NCAA rules, it does not concern them, the player in question is eligible so stay out of it.
