Bellotti, Richt emerge as candidates at CU

Posted on: November 13, 2010 10:27 am

Mike Bellotti has spoken to Colorado about its opening and Mark Richt is high on the list of candidates according to the Denver Post.

Bellotti, the former Oregon coach and current ESPN analyst, said he is interested in getting back into coaching. Richt, the Georgia coach, could want to get out of the "SEC pressure cooker" and go to Colorado according to the story.

This is not true.  Horrible journalism.

And after further consideration I doubt that Belotti would want to face Oregon next year if Colorado plays Oregon.

How do you know?  You "doubting" something doesn't make it untrue.  And if there's a program that Bellotti could bring back from the dead it's Colorado or even Washington State.  As a betting man, it's pretty good chance you Ducks will be seeing Bellotti somewhere on your sked next year.
As a sidebar, the Red Sox suck.

What a joke of an article.
"Nick Saban is interested in the CU job."  There, now you can put that in your headline.  I'm an unidentified source.

If Richt is smart he would be looking for another job.  If all you care about is winning then Richt is not the man.  I do not see him ever winning a national championship.  No one has a QB playing his first starting season as a senior.  Richt has done this 3 times.  It is because he is loyal to the players and has integrity.  It is what you do when you are bulding men which should be important at the college level.  In the SEC however winning is all that matters and he will get fired eventually.

So, when a journalist asks an unlabeled "source" something, and that "source" is just speculating (ex. "Richt may want out of the pressure cooker of the SEC"), do we still have to call it journalism?

And if a CBS "journalist" re-posts that speculation from the other writer's "source" without mentioning that the newsbite came from an unlabeled "source" that was "speculating," do we have to call THAT journalism?

Basically, you just created a nice little bogus headline involving Mark Richt from another writer who asked some guy (that watches college football) "What can you say that will get me some big names for the Colorado coaching search?"

And that "source" said, "I dunno. Maybe Richt doesn't want to compete as hard anymore. They've been mad at his losses in Athens. And Richt once lived in Colorado, so obviously that's another weak, but strong, connection. But I don't really know anybody over at UGA, so don't quote me on that. Just call me a source. Yeah, that will work."

Weak.
