Bo Pelini addresses Saturday night conduct

Posted on: November 22, 2010 12:53 pm

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini apologized Monday morning for Saturday night's outbursts during the Texas A&M game and said quarterback Taylor Martinez was excused Sunday from a voluntary workout.

"I'm a passionate person ...," said Pelini whose team was called for 16 penalties Saturday night. "It's OK to disagree with the calls. It's the way you disagree with the call. At times I got too animated."

Pelini said twice that he was "sorry" for his conduct during a regulary scheduled Monday press conference. After a meeting with Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman Pelini said he had the full support of the administration. Perlman, on Sunday, publicly criticized Pelini's conduct. Not only did the coach vehemently disagree with some of the calls -- justifiably, some would say -- but Pelini angrily spoke to Martinez on the sidelines. The outburst was caught during the nationally televised game.

Pelini added that Martinez was not suspended and will play, if healthy, Friday against Colorado.

Pelini was asked specifically if the outburst had anything to do with "texting or talking to his dad" while getting treatment for an injury.

"I've already said I'm not going to get into that ... That's nobody's business but ours. I have heard things that are being said out there and they're way off base," Pelini said.

Asked if Big 12 officials could be "out to get" Nebraska, Pelini responded, "I don't know. I've never really thought about that. I can't speculate on that."

The coach also shot down some reports that Martinez may have missed a mandatory team meeting on Sunday. Pelini said Martinez missed what was termed a "Sunday shake out" because of his leg injury.

"It's a voluntary jog around to get the kinks out," Pelini said.

"He and I are on the same page. There are no issues there."

Goodness.  I read your posts.  All of them.  So glad I have had several prior experiences through the years with true NU fans, players, coaches and administrators to know that the proud BR Nation is not even closely represented by the few jerks who routinely populate CBSsportsline and claim to be the BR faithful.  Now add Pelini to the classless clowns cited above.  You are all an embarassment to an otherwise fine institution.  I've complimented the NU fans and NU programs on many occasions in the past, but Pelini and present-day CBSsportsline NU posters fall so short of the standards of excellence set by their predecessors that I hardly recognize your feeble dribble of comments as eminatng from Husker Land.  Maybe they are from Sri Lanka or an outpost on the moon.  What I do know is that the VAST, VAST majority of Husker fans are better than these comments would suggest.  Obviously, Pelini only issued his "apology" (such as it is) because he was forced to do so by Osborne and Perlman -- he hasn't the wherewithall to do it on his own.  I'm no fan of passionless foootball, either, but Pelini's actions are consistently over-the-top, crude, and classless, and should never again been allowed to represent NU.  GBR!  Good luck in the Big Ten.

I am surprised at the amount of people out there, including Dodd, who have no idea where the male genatalia are located on the human body.

Not being a great fan of either school but the officials made some horrible calls and non-calls. Texas A&M should of had at least 2 pass interferance calls that were blatant plus the holding calls. Nebraska clearly got the shaft  they were called for fathom holding calls. Texas A&M should of had by my count 5 holding calls. This has to be the worst officiated coleage games i ever watched. When Musberger was commenting about them on air and you know that is a no no!

So Dodd now that you're on your "moral" high horse where's the article on Jerod-Eddie yanking on Cotton's crank?   If Pelini's conduct is worthy of writing a story (and I am okay with that) then how about an article on this "behavior?"  Even the player admits it now or is that still not enough evidence for you along with the sub plot of "no suspension."   Then again, you probably like watching that video and have it on a permanent loop for office time jollies.  Freak.

Congratulations on your ill-gotten, unethical gift win from the crooked officials...

It fits it quite well with your unethical, immoral players who sexually assault their opponent as he is held to the ground.

Oh...and you have NEVER been in any type of "pile up" for a are a complete liar trying to pretend he was some kind of "great athlete" with immense experience on the playing field.

There mere fact that you would attempt to justify the actions of your criminal player speaks to the type of "never been" program that the Texas A&M f  a ggies truly are.

Blah Blah Blah we are hearing so much about how the 'Huskers will struggle in the Big 10 (aka Equal Revenue Distribution Conference).  I don't know any Husker fans who are under delusion that their team will just stroll in and dominate that conference.  The only difference is that win or loose, these fans are looking forward to their team not having to fight with arms tied behind their backs.

All due respect DeLaP, but the only difference in this incident and hundreds of others just as bad, is this one was caught in the age of the viral YouTube clip...

The real story there was that an A&M blogger posted the video and tried to stir up controversy with innuendo. When reporters tracked down the cameraman to confirm the story, the cameraman admitted to the events as they happened above

Actually, I've seen some reports that the cameraman gave on the incident, yours must have come from some Nebraskan media or the lies that Bo and Carl were telling which were shown to be flat out lies.

I guess you haven't seen the photos taken of the incident from another angle.   They show no Husker player anywhere near the cameraman and they show Carl attacking the guy's camera, ripping some pieces off of it and throwing them on the ground just as people have reported.

In fact, there are some videos that include those pictures on youtube right now.
