Muschamp reportedly at Florida

Two pretty good sources say Florida has its new coach.

The Florida Times-Union and Tim Tebow is twittering that Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. Tebow "broke" the news with a tweet at about 8 p.m. ET saying, "Welcome to the Gator family Coach Muschamp."

Muschamp got his SEC head coaching job but not the one many thought it would be. Georgia always seemed to be a threat to call Muschamp back home but that's not the big-time SEC opening that was available. Florida apparently has its man three days after Urban Meyer resigned.

The 39-year-old Muschamp has been the coach-in-waiting at Texas for slightly more than two years. With Mack Brown's future as head coach open-ended, Muschamp can't be blamed for taking one of the best jobs in the country. Currently, he is making $900,000 per year with the Longhorns who, like the Gators, slumped badly this season (5-7). He'll get a hefty raise at Florida where the Gators are coming off a 7-5 season that led to a burned-out Meyer calling it quits this week.

Muschamp is a year younger than Meyer was when he came from Utah after the 2004. The former Georgia safety is a disciple of Nick Saban whose defenses are known for their aggressiveness and innovation.

Two years ago, Muschamp told me, "If I had left Austin, my wife was staying."

Not when Texas is down, Mack Brown's future is unclear and Florida comes calling.

Muschamp reportedly at Florida

WOW all  I have to say here is that Florida really appears to be going after Alabama hard.  Muschamp is a Saban Product and Major Applewhite will be coming in as OC he too coached under Saban.  If you cant consistantly beat them, take coaches who know their secret to success and employ it to your own benefit

Ok I am all for hearing people speak their views but there is something to say about these people who go online to make juvenile remarks with absolutely nothing to back their views up but their ignorance.

It is so easy to say things like Muschamp a chump and what not, but what do you have to go off of?  Because you think your cool when you say such ridiculous BS. Whats even more ignorant is that the regime that allowed the bad snaps and horrible QB play is out, so your jabs are irrelevant to begin with.

Bring some facts that make you believe that Muschamp is a bad fit as the new head coach.  My personal opinion is that he has a great pedigree of coaches he has worked under:  Saban, Mack Brown, Tommy Tuberville;  his defenses at Texas have led to quite a number of NFL 1st round picks;  he can recruit in the SEC AND he has ties to Texas recruits (neither Urban Meyer or Steve Spurrier can say that);  finally this is his first head coach gig so you know he is going to put together the best group of coaches he can find with nobody he feels loyalty to keep even when they are vastly underperforming (Adazzio).

Ironically, I am a Hawkeye fan myself (finished my graduate degree in 2009 at U of Iowa) and I have to say that I am much more excited about the Gators future than what Ferentz is going to do during another rebuilding year next season.

You're a freaking moron, goIowa... when was the last time Iowa was relevent in the college football world? What, you lucked out & won the BIG10 a couple years ago? Talk to us when you're actually competing for National Titles. Until then, continue to cry about The Gators and lose to Ohio State... Oh, and does Northwestern own you girls now, or what?

Come on now, what they do on the field in Iowa looks a lot like football...  Only slower.

What are you? ten years old? seriously, if you have an educated comment to make, then make it.

When was the last time Iowa won a national Championship?  The last time I counted , Jeremy Foley has 3 under his watch.  I trust the mans decision making.

Muschamp reportedly at Florida

I have great memories watching SEC football with my father on Saturdays and playing football in the back yard with my two brothers right here in Gainesville."  and then immediately after that......Former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner  wrote on Twitter: "[Welcome] to the [Gator] family Coach Muschamp! You'll soon find out why it's great to be a Florida Gator! God bless and Go Gators."

Well, we'll see what Muschamp is made of. As stated in the article, I can't blame him for leaving Texas. For all he knows, Mack Brown may hang around like Paterno. Ask that guy how it feels to be the heir apparent. Who wants to be a "head coach in waiting",when a job like Florida comes calling.  One warning,Coach. When you're the head man, the fans aren't so patient with not winning championships. Especially, at a place like Florida. Good luck, you'll need it. Might as well kiss the family good bye for awhile.
