TCU's Gary Patterson not contacted by Michigan

Posted on: January 5, 2011 11:55 pm

Gary Patterson had not been contacted by Michigan for its opening as of Wednesday night according to a source close to the TCU coach.

Patterson, fresh off a 13-0 season and Rose Bowl win, is thought to be a candidate for the job left open after the firing of Rich Rodriguez by AD Dave Brandon. Brandon said earlier Wednesday he expects to move quickly to fill the vacancy but arguably the hottest coach in the country had not gotten a call 12 hours after Rodriguez had been let go.

Is it too early to speculate? Not with recruiting hanging in the balance. Brandon also said Wednesday that this weekend's recruiting visits would be shuffled as the coaching search takes priority. Patterson has not publicly expressed interest but it is assumed he would listen to Michigan if it called.

The debate rages whether Brandon should hire a so-called "Michigan Man" or the best coach available. Patterson, 50, fits the latter category. In 10 seasons, Patterson has won 98 games at TCU and is seen as the main reason why the school was invited to join the Big East beginning in 2012.

San Diego State's Brady Hoke and LSU's Les Miles -- two coaches with Michigan ties -- seem to be the leading candidates. If Brandon prefers to go off the reservation he could pursue Patterson, a defensive mastermind who has assembled the nation's No. 1 defense each of the last three seasons. Brandon said BCS conference experience would not be a required seemingly opening the door for Hoke and Patterson.

Brandon said earlier Wednesday that he has a "dynamic list" of candidates.

In short, so what?

Had enough of inflated gasps posing as journalism? Tell the folks at CBSCS.

Dodds regularly delivers analysis that would do justice to any conference held by the depositors at a junior high urinal trough. This is just more of the same, so zip your fly, wash your hands, and go sit down to wait for the teacher to say something interesting. And while you're at it, think about dumping your comic books and GI Joe dollies.

Michigan is unimportant, anyway, unless you believe the big tin is something other than pig iron.

I would hardly call Gary Patterson "AVAILABLE".  No way this happens.  Mark it down.

TCU's Gary Patterson not contacted by Michigan

This is Dennis Dodd's dream. It's no secret that he loves Gary Patterson but hates TCU. If he could influence GP to some other gig he then he could go on spouting his elitist writings without any TCU discussion getting in his way.

Dennis Dodd is one of TCU's #1 haters

Gary Patterson has the best job in the country right now, why go to Michigan and get run out in 3 years? Gary Patterson is a legend and has worked at TCU longer than most ever get to coach at one place. His name is right up there with the best coaches of all time and when all said and done he could bring TCU a national title the same way Bobby Bowden brought Florida State one. Coach Gary Patterson is building TCU like that of Penn State and with entrance into the Big East he is really becoming the next JoePa.

TCU has rich Texas talent, why go up to Michigan? Yes he would get 5 star kids but those kids won't put passion into the game like the kids he has now.

TCU is the best fit/job for Gary Patterson...learn the lessons from Dennis Franchonie who can't find a good job and/or Rich Rod who had everything at WV.

Go Frogs and Go HC GP!

#1 defense in the country and beat the co-big ten champ while running the 335 scheme, or multiple variations thereof.  Perhaps RichRod just didn't get "D".  Maybe Greg Robinson was forced into using a scheme he didn't have a clear understanding of.  All I know is we have 3 1/2 recruiting classes of this system and Gary Patterson is using the same thing... successfully.  DB should back up the brinks truck and lure Patterson to Ace Duece.  I am not ready for another 3 years of transition.   One more shot with the "smaller, quicker guys" before dismantling and retooling.

Urban Meyer did at Bowling Green and again at Utah, so don't say NO ONE can rebuild a program in 3 years.

Actually, Ohio is the bilge hole that connects Kentucky and Michigan.
