This is a fascinating look behind-the-scenes at how Iowa officials scrambled during the first days of the rhabdo scare.

Iowa officials were worried about the reaction from national media including our own Gregg Doyel, who, it is pointed out has "16K followers" on Twitter.

The Des Moines Register was able to get several e-mails through the state's open records law. E-mails show how a statement from coach Kirk Ferentz was drafted by others, rather than the coach himself.

On Jan. 26, the school's faculty athletic representative wrote to AD Gary Barta and president Sally Mason about: " ... my own concern and our need to be transparent when we found out the causes of the medical situation."

Earlier this week, the Associated Press reported that team doctor Ned Amendola was at a meeting in Costa Rica during the time the players were hospitalized. An Iowa official said the school wasn't concerned that Amendola was away during the time the players were in the hospital.

Behind-the-scares at Iowa during rhabdo scare

in denial??????/  seriously???  from the media who has not yet one REAL source of anything but made up garbage. there is no iowa fan who doesnt think what happened was serious and horrible. but this ollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

lllllllllllllllllllld story is now just a witch hunt and if you think its not you havent been following along. not one actual source of proof of anything by any of the national inquirer media.  dodds started this when his alma mater lost to his hated iowa in a bowl game. missouri was so chickensh!t to play iowa that they cancelled a few years back. they hadnt played in over 100 years and yet they border each other. to lose to iowa was unthinkable to satan dodd. he was so cocky about winning he never envisioned that iowa would actually won. and when they did...he pretended a game was never played. instead of just writing a story of an upset and moving on he has now made a career of being a cyber bully and when you have the university of iowa mentioning these hacks like dodd and doyel from cbs, its beyond a story. its a freaking witchhunt is what it is

Behind-the-scares at Iowa during rhabdo scare

Wow, it's pretty clear that Iowa fans are in complete denial about this whole incident, and have resorted to that time-honored tradition of blaming the messenger!  Wake up, people, 13 players do NOT go to the hospital over a tough workout, especially not in wintertime.  Heat problems, in August...maybe, but in Feb? It's clear to me that some kind of supplement was involved, which may or may not be a legal substance, that caused a bad reaction in a number of players.  Thirteen went to the hospital, but it could have been more than that, just not as bad and went home instead of the hospital. Iowa needs to get to the bottom of this, rather than resorting to "damage control" and denial.  The University is risking it's reputation.

Behind-the-scares at Iowa during rhabdo scare

Another trash Iowa column...yawn...I would expect nothing else from a two-bit junior high school newspaper writer.  You seriously need a hobby...I know...write about other teams.  What a jacka$$.  And ooooooh, 16k followers on twitter...with a total IQ of 12 (that's including Dodd and Doyel).  Every one of them living in their mother's basement swallowing the BS that comes from this website.  And we wonder how Hitler took power...he had his own Dodd brainwashing people.  Get a life, dumba$$.

Behind-the-scares at Iowa during rhabdo scare

behind the scenes of a HONKING coward CYBER BULLY trying to cover up for his own feebleness for a 7 week OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

LLLLD story!
Dennis Fraud...Satan's Representative on Earth
behind the scenes of a cbs journalist/pseudointellectual AKA JACKA$$ who tries to convince others that hes is intelligent by writing or talking nonsense using complicated terms and expressions which is mostly made up garbage
funny satan dodd but you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO late on this story. its been out for a week. we were laughing emailing back and forth about you, satan dodd and how he somehow missed this garbage and when he finally discovers it a week later he will pretend its time for cbs to once again turn an honest investigation into a witchhunt in order to keep the story going.
there are so many ridiculous aspects of this report, but the fact is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Amendolas response to the situation. the workouts in question took place quite literally across the street from one of the finest hospitals in the country, the hospital for which amendola works for. that hospital provided exemplary treatment to the ill players which has NEVER been called into question by any person or entity, including the players and their parents. amendola does not attend workouts and is not an emergency physician (and even if he was this wasnt an emergency situation). he is NOT responsible for any sort of oversight of  workout regiments and nothing about this situation would be significantly different had he been there. the ridiculous parts about the resort where the conference was being held (which are written to imply that amendola and the other physicians attending the conference were too busy partying to be bothered) dont mention that the american board of orthopaedic surgery is an extremely prestigious group and that amendolas participation and directorship isn large part because hes a really good doctor
This is nothing more than a hit piece against someone who deserves no blame, done bya a half-assed coward cbssportswriter who doesnt attempt to understand any of the situation and only wants his name on a story with "iowa football scandal"
i want satan dodd's next story to be about his alma mater losing to iowa in the bowl game. hes a bold faced coward who simply cant face up to his much balleyhooed overrated team losing to a team that was supposedly in shambles. WE WANT THAT STORY and we wont rest until we get THAT CHICKENSH!T story. you will not get off the hook satan dodd. as many hate stories you write about iowa i will write about your joke school.
and let the hate continue. 40 days and 40 nights of iowa bashing still going strong. cbs should be so proud of this cyber bully!

Behind-the-scares at Iowa during rhabdo scare

Another Iowa hate artitle... Keeping the kettle stirring on a dead issue. You would think that CBS would have this "honk" covering The college side of the NFL draft or signing day. IF you're going to keep up on all these "slader the school" articles. then why not post on here about Oklahoma's pot bust or their violations on their workouts. What about Tennesee's NCAA issues.

However, I'm not asking for smear story's. So try doing something constructive.  I'm going to close with the same statement that is an rally cry for Hawkeye fans as well as many other CBS Sports followers. CBS hold your selves high and accountable. Fire Dodd!!!!!!

The only information that is shocking about this article is that there are 16,000 dildos out there following what Doyel has to say on twitter.

Dodd being Dodd

Agree with most of the comments so far.  There isn't really anything "fascinating" about the communication by Iowa officials.  Pretty standard stuff for the most part.  Ferentz was out of town, so those who know him best drafted a statement for him to approve.  Big deal!  "Earlier this week" the AP reported?  It was well reported at the time that the team Dr. happened to be attending a professional meeting in Costa Rica.  Is this not allowed? Is he supposed to use his crystal ball to determine when he might be needed in the offseason?  I'm not sure I get the point of that one.  Of course I do get the point in general.  Dodd just being Dodd.  Enough said.  I know it probably will fall on deaf ears once again, but I encourage you Dennis to get some help!  I realize mental illness carries a certain stigma that you are trying to avoid, but there truly are some good meds out there.

What Dodd is not stating in all of this is that he wrote his stories without even contacting the Unversity of Iowa Sports Information or Athletic Directors office.  Neither did Doyel and none one at SI did either.  You can read that in the documents as well.

So Dodd makes up what he wants and infers what he wants.  Nice journalism ethics.

The Pierre Pierce incident and this incident makes you question U of Iowa's ability to handle adverse issues....
