Incredibly, coach in charge of Iowa 13 honored

The Attack of Iowa's Mr. Evil Workout took a bizarre and baffling twist last week.

You'll recall that in January, 13 Hawkeyes were sent to the hospital suffering from rhabdomyolysis, a serious affliction that causes the breakdown of skeletal muscle due to overexertion. After an in-house school investigation, no one was found responsible. Not the head coach, not the trainers, not the strength coach. Thankfully, not the players. As far as we know, no one was disciplined. In a 19-page report, the school basically blamed the workout itself for the rhabdo.

Bad Evil Workout. It will never be allowed on campus again.

Since that time one player reportedly sought and was give release from his scholarship. Another reportedly is still suffering headaches. So what happened last week? Iowa's head trainer Chris Doyle -- the man in charge of those hospitalized players in late January -- was named assistant coach of the year by Kirk Ferentz.

Now, I can understand the honor at some point, but not to Doyle and not three months after the players Doyle was responsible for were in the hospital.

It's one thing not accepting blame. We got enough of that recently from Notre Dame. It's another being arrogant and insensitive.

Not only was Doyle honored, Ferentz handed out the award for the first time according to the link. Ferentz plans to make it an annual honor. Note to Kirk: Would it have been outrageous to maybe wait another year to begin giving out this award? You know, maybe let the whole rhabdo thing blow over.

Apparently that's exactly what Iowa thinks has happened.

Incredibly, coach in charge of Iowa 13 honored

incredibly, THIS STORY is still talked about on this tabloid site by Satans representative on earth, doddly do wrong?????????? it never ceases to amaze me the venom with which this retard and his hate for the university of iowa (along with what appears many jealous posters...who claim "they dont care about iowa...nor can even find the state on a map??? im very sorry for that because it appears as if you cant name a state in the middle of the usa you have bigger problems than being proud of being illiterate!) and its athletic department you heap mountains of blame on with little or no proof of anything.  are you that bored doddly do wrong?  this story is over and done. 4 months ago.  this jacka$$ has rehashed this subject TO DEATH and what has happened months ago yet cbssports allows this ignorant fool to keep hating on iowa and the fact that he refuses to let go on his vengence for on iowa on top of making up rumor after rumor which is not journalism. ive emailed cbssportsline about this bigot and his little weasel friend who looks so tough with that plastic ax yet they they dont have the guts to get rid of these retards with their TMZ and the national enquirer like articles. you know no other real sports site would allow these sh!!!theads to print this on their site.

BOO FUKING HOO on poor little doddly do wrong and its band of...I CANT FIND IOWA. IOWA IS A SECOND PLACE SCHOOL coming from last place posters.  his little brainwashed friends join in even they are as clueless. the fact that KF did this over a week ago and doddly just found out? way to find that slam on you tard dodd/  and so much for your mass transfers, boo freaking hoo doodly. the fact that every recruit who signed his letter of intent and stated along with the coaching staff  was the STRONG strength and conditioning program and how iowa pumps out NFL ready players when their career is over as one of the main reasons for choosing iowa.

is this tmz tard story trying to compensate for the fact that the hawkeye recruiting didnt have one single defection due to this incident which the media is obviously still has no real clue of what happened. your vendetta against iowa and KF has been going on for almost 2 years and this VERY STRANGE ARTICLE is just a coverup of having no evidence of anything you are throwing out there and hoping it sticks.

since you obviously have some free time....doddly do wrong...this would seem the PERFECT TIME to write about your missouri tigers LOSING TO IOWA! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh YES!  remember that?? it was in december...shortly before your story you cant seem to forget. yet its the story you havent written that we KNOW you PRETEND to forget....your alma mater choking to the team who you would be most embarrassed to lose to...IOWA! yes ...  we HAVENT FORGOTTEN even though you seem to think it will just go away ...just like the idiots who post on here and say they dont care about iowa yet theres a sh!!!!!!!!!tload that do or are just plain jealous which i think is really the truth

sorry iowa football isnt going away. hide behind your ohio state and iowa stories doddly do wrong but until you come out with the missouri sucks story you will always be looked upon as a retard of this site. your reputation has been shot years ago with your tabloid reporting. id think you would have seen that years ago and moved on. but you are too shallow to do anything else. what comes around goes around. oh it will happen to. until then.... is this heaven, no its iowa. BITE ME LOSERS.

exactly how was iowa cheating??? All thirteen of those players could leave or not do the workout, it was there choice also, blame the trainers for making the program what it is today, and last i read not one of those players have died, and of the 13, one left, for lack of playing time, those terrible coaches

These Iows fans are truly idiots - they could care less that their program almost killed these kids; they just get mad that Dodd writes about it.  Every fan of a big-time program (read: not Iowa) are used to this sort of introspection for much, much less.  Why would the Iowa brats think they are exempt from accountability?  If you don't want to be in the news, then stop cheating and almost killing your players.  Pretty easy solution.  But no, they want to misguide their anger at the messenger.  Grow up Iowa and try some responsibility for once.  I bet these same fans complaining about the article pile on Ohio State on theor articles though - hypocrites as well as apologists.

What do I know, I'm just an Iowa Honk!
This is the same story different day. Dodd knows that when he writes a negitive article about the Hawkeyes, then he is guarenteed 10 pages of comments. It doesn't matter what is done by the Hawkeyes, Dodd is going to dis them everyway possible.
IMO good journalism isnt just breaking a story quickly or getting the most views. Its about getting both sides of the story. Thats why Dodd will never be more than a blogger. I cant wait until the day CBS fires Dodd. Maybe someone can get a facebook group started. Maybe that will get CBS's attention.
The biggest complaint that I have with CBS's website right now is that its turned into a tabloid website. It cares more about who's dating who or whos going to jail. I would much prefer a story about what average players are doing to stay in shape during the lockout.

Geez you sound like Dodd..Conspiracies about drug and supplement use???  The players were all tested at the hospital and nothing illegal was found and none were found to have taken anything that would lead to rhabdo.  I'm sure you can continue your conspiracy and involve the university hospital as well.

You are a bitter clone fan.  I don't think any Hawk fans are saying they don;t give a $%^, it's just some of the things that are being said are simply not true.

Well said Bud!  I'm still waiting to hear Dodd retract his assertion that this incident was going to result in a mass exodus of players.  One player has asked for his release and he is only weighing his options at this pointm and according to his uncle will likely return to the Iowa team.

Dodd took this story, which definitely deserved to be reported, and went to the next level of trying to create something that wasn't there.  When he wrote his article about the mass exodus, there was no indication that any player was interested in transferring.  Sure, he interviewed an AD that said something like this could enable players to transfer "if they want to" but that hasn't been the case.  The one player that did request his release was given it unconditionally.

This workout was as extreme as they get.  The coaches were pushing them to their limits and the players were being competitive with themselves to try and out do one another.  The workout was to extreme given the 3 week layoff they had prior to working out.  That is the difference between this workout and similar workouts done previously.

Once again, we have an undereducated "sportswriter" the all-knowing expert of weather, engineering and medicine. Get over yourself Dodd. No one respects you. You're a joke. Read your own e-mails. The overwhelming majority write in to mock you. Why is that? It's because you lie and have the unmitigated gall to present yourself as an expert despite your track record of predictions, articles proclaiming the greatness of losers like Ty Willingham and excoriating  coaches like Gundy for protecting his players. Who do you think you are? Look in the mirror. When you do, you'll see a shallow, untalented hack who no one respects. It's tough being you, isn't it?

The president of Notre Dame has more character in his cuticle of his index finger, then you have in your entire body. The coach of Iowa is an accomplished coach and respected man. That's something you'll never be. You can't stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them. In fact, when they pick up rocks, you are what they find underneath.

Hopefully, one day CBS will take a good look at its site and realize it is doing its readers a disservice with self-serving, agenda-driven helots like you. Then we'll get someone who knows about football and actually utilizes logic and common sense. You are the antithesis of what a writer and expert is.
