USC vacates, is Ohio State next?

Ohio State, you're next.

Well, maybe, but the non-story that was the BCS finally and absolutely vacating USC's 2004 title on Monday does have implications colored Scarlet and Gray. The way things are trending in Columbus, Ohio State could be the next to vacate a BCS bowl win. A BCS source told me that the same standard would hold for Ohio State if it was forced to vacate this year's Sugar Bowl: Wait until the case is decided and all appeals are exhausted.

Admittedly, the stakes would be a bit smaller but no less embarrassing. A national championship wasn't involved in Ohio State's 31-26 win over Arkansas. Six players mysteriously reinstated for the bowl somehow were. Five of those six players were key contributors in the win. At issue is how many of those victories will end up standing when the NCAA is through with Ohio State.

Those six players were cleared by the NCAA to play that particular game but this case has miles to go -- no pun intended re: Terrelle Pryor loaners -- before it is finalized.

And, no, that doesn't mean Arkansas becomes Sugar Bowl champion if Ohio State vacates. Just like USC in 2004, if the Buckeyes vacate, there likely will be no 2011 Sugar Bowl champion in the BCS' eyes.

USC is believed to be the first team in the wire service era (since at least 1936) to have a national championship removed.

Cheaters and lyers need to be dealt with very harshly, and yes, OSU should be next on the chopping block. I think that maybe the accademic programs in the university need to be investigated as well. This university has a clear reputation of turning out crooks, poor excuses of individuals and leaders as well as lyers and cheaters. It clearly points toward what this university supports.

Someone needs to explain how the NCAA can clear those players for the game and not be in violation of the NCAA Rules and Bylaws. The exemption clause only applies to teams slated to play the championship title match.

I certainly don't agree with allowing them to play, but the NCAA issues 'waivers' to their rules all the time.  They do so for various reasons to/for just about every D-I program in the country every year.

Dude i stated in my post that Tenn was going on probation as well as their basketball program!! Georgia would be in the same position as Osu if they would have handled AJ Green the same way!! And yes Bama was on probation in the past!! And once again as CRAZY as it sounds the NCAA is responsible for the Cam mess bc what Cams dad did was actually not a NCAA violation which in itself is INSANE!!! As far as oversigning yes they take Chances on kids some schools wont but do you punish kids for where and how they grow up and say they and their futures aren't worth the risk a college education can provide?? Forgetting the Northwestern remark I have no problem with OSU bc College football isn't the same without it's big name programs!! I am just sick of people coming on these sites and blaming the Media, the SEC and everyone else for their problems!! This is nobody's fault but one persons and that is Jim Tressel and until OSU fans except that and move on they better grow some thick skin because as a Bama fan I know firsthand that this will never go away to some people!! Good Luck!!

They should look into the 2002 National championship when ohio state got lucky and beat miami. Everyone knows maurice clarett had to have done something illigal that year! That dude is a straight up criminal. Strip ohio state of the national championship and give it to MIAMI who deserved it, but got screwed because of a pass interference call.

OSU got screwed at the end of the game on a horrible call that should have given them a first down and would have pretty much ended the game.

The game should have never gone to OT.

No one ever seems to remember that.

It's not a bad thing, he doesn't have to say another word to the NCAA now. Just moving on with his life now.

Not a bad thing for him, but OSU will get hit much worse if he doesn't.

10-2, BCS Bowl game in 2011, count on that. No, I win that one because everyone knows the SEC is dirty. How many schools in the conference are/were under investigation in the past year? Scam Newton's dad asked for 200k. Tenn is about to go on probation. Bama just got off of sanctions in the past 5 years. Come on man...the whole conference is dirty. Plus you were signing 28 recruits a year when you didn't even have that many scholorships available. No other conference allows that at all, but it explains why there are so many players that end up being criminals on SEC teams, you can take chances on great athletes that are pieces of sh!t that othert schools wont touch because they only hand out what's available.
