USC vacates, is Ohio State next?

Ohio State, you're next.

Well, maybe, but the non-story that was the BCS finally and absolutely vacating USC's 2004 title on Monday does have implications colored Scarlet and Gray. The way things are trending in Columbus, Ohio State could be the next to vacate a BCS bowl win. A BCS source told me that the same standard would hold for Ohio State if it was forced to vacate this year's Sugar Bowl: Wait until the case is decided and all appeals are exhausted.

Admittedly, the stakes would be a bit smaller but no less embarrassing. A national championship wasn't involved in Ohio State's 31-26 win over Arkansas. Six players mysteriously reinstated for the bowl somehow were. Five of those six players were key contributors in the win. At issue is how many of those victories will end up standing when the NCAA is through with Ohio State.

Those six players were cleared by the NCAA to play that particular game but this case has miles to go -- no pun intended re: Terrelle Pryor loaners -- before it is finalized.

And, no, that doesn't mean Arkansas becomes Sugar Bowl champion if Ohio State vacates. Just like USC in 2004, if the Buckeyes vacate, there likely will be no 2011 Sugar Bowl champion in the BCS' eyes.

USC is believed to be the first team in the wire service era (since at least 1936) to have a national championship removed.

You are correct, its about "exploitation of a scandal to make a few bucks".  There never was a wide spread scandal, the SI story was almost entirely fake.  All issues with Ohio State were self reported.

This is too funny. The NCAA takes games away that have already been played? SO really it's like one person once said: "Hey, kids! You were wrong so I'm going to punish you! You know that Disney trip we took last year? Well, from here on out were going to say it never took place!"  "But Dad, we saw Mickey and Minnie and rode all kinds of fun rides and had some yummy treats to eat."  "But it didn't happen. That's your punishment." Boo Hoo!!

Ok, so what should they do?  How should this be handled?  Are you saying that there should not be a punishment at all?

It's going to be awhile before this question is answered for certain. The NCAA has to rule. Then OSU can appeal. Then based on the outcome of that, the BCS will decide whether to vacate the win. If I had to guess at this point, I'd guess that the entire 2010-11 Ohio State season will be vacated. And the BCS will follow suit by vacating the SB. But it isn't even August yet so it's a bit early to be asking this question. But we all know that the pre$$ can't stop talking about this even for one 24-hour news cycle. At this point it isn't even about unvcovering wrongdoing and reporting it to the public. At this point it's down to daily exploitation of a scandal to make a few bucks (pun intended).

Moron,  Pryor never admitted to having a car sold to him for a reduced price!!!!

The car he has is a 2007 Nissan that HIS MOM bought with 80,000 MILES ON IT!!!!!!!!  NO BARGAIN THERE!

ALSO,  Every School in the Country,  EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL, has a player that has gotten a favor from someone, that the player got an advantage from!

NAME ONE SCHOOL THAT HASN'T HAD THIS HAPPEN?

I beg to differ sir, you've already had OSU players admit to selling memorabilia, you've had Terrell Pryor admit to having cars being "sold" to him at reduced prices because he played for the Buckeyes, you've ahd a tattoo shop owner indicted over buying memorabilia.
You've had players who no longer play at OSU admit to selling memorabilia and that it was rampant.
That's just the appetizer my friend, it's going to get A LOT deeper for OSU.

How can you 'beg to differ' when we said the same thing?

I'm not "hoping" anything is there, sure I use the nicknames "Scam Newton" & "Cheatin Chizik" because I like to be creative when I write and from the information i've read there is A LOT more there than has been reported and though I should use "alledged" more liberally in my postings I am merely a fan posting on a message board and not subject to rules governing the press.
To answer your question no, I don't have first hand knowledge nor have I purported to but when one reads about the relationship of Newton & his dad, the reports that have surfaced thus far about Mr.Newtons demands on other institutions it doesn't take Jim Rockford private detective to start putting things together and figure that there seems to be something there.
Sure we can wait until the investigation happens but I'm sure the moderators of this board are just fine with fans interacting on this topic right now instead of taking the "wait and see attitude".
I will close with this: we've seen this before at other institutions, this is how it starts, this is how it started with USC, the NCAA has had plenty of time to work on the Auburn investigation since everything was first reported and I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that our suspicions and the evidence have pointed in the right direction and Auburn will have some serious charges to deal with.

Relax.  I didn't say you could or couldn't do anything.  I was just trying to see if you had any legitimate information.  We've now established that you are relying on stuff that anonymous people on message boards are saying and, yes, hoping it's true.

And you are certainly entitled to do that.

I actually don't want OSU to have bright skies, or ice cream, or to hear the melody in a child's laughter. I wish them cold, rain-soaked days of bitterness and regret as they contemplate the liver spots on their spindly little limbs. That's what I want. I want their dreams crushed and their limp souls rendered from their beings. Yeah, that 'bout does it.

Ok, I'll stop. Sorry, I am a hater and a jackass but I just...couldn't.....resist! I don't like Michigan either, FWIW. At least OSU never lost at home to App State! You'll be fine, this will blow over and years from now you'll be back near the top and this will be an afterthought. Let it go, indeed. Ignore trolls like me and you'll be fine.

Ok, so it's just hoping at this point.  Got it.

Look, you may very well be right, but talking in absolutes is just talking out your arse at this point.  There is not actual evidence of Auburn wrongdoing like there is at OSU.
