Wisconsin just became the Big Ten favorite

Wisconsin just became the Big Ten favorite because of the biggest free-agent acquisition, maybe, in history. In the history of college football, that is. Sorry, Jeremiah Masoli.

When quarterback Russell Wilson picked Wisconsin on Monday, the Badgers took control of the new, expanded Big Ten because, well, to this point no one else has.

--Ohio State, you might have heard, is dealing with a few problems.

--No one is really sure about the Nebraska offense.

--I want to believe in Michigan State but until the Spartans do it -- go to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1988 -- they are suspect.

With the addition of Wilson, Wisconsin is now, officially, loaded. He gives the Badgers something that they have lacked for years -- a playmaker at quarterback. I know, I know, Scott Tolzien wasn't bad, but he's also gone.

Without him, Bret Bielema faced a familiar problem -- game-planning around the quarterback. Now he goes into games calling plays because of the quarterback.

Let's not stop there. With Wilson, the Badgers could compete for the national championship if everything falls right. Sure, the Badgers lost an Outland Trophy winner in the offensive line (Gabe Carimi) and J.J. Watt in the defensive line, but if there are two things Madison is good at they are beer and linemen.

The schedule is more than manageable. The Nebraska game is at home.

Am I gushing? I can't help it. One of my lasting visions from the 2010 season was Wisconsin pounding TCU's defense in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl. Now, add an accurate arm and fast feet to that scene. Give the Frogs credit for bouncing back, but this is going to be a different Badgers' offense with Wilson. I also remember last year at this time when Wilson went 250 days without football-related activity before the 2010 season. It didn't seem to hurt the Pack who won nine games for the first time since 2002.

Wisconsin gets a smart, polished quarterback who once threw 379 attempts without an interception. Perhaps most impressive: Wilson's 3,563 passing yards and 28 touchdowns not only led the ACC, it would have led the Big Ten.

If the kid truly wants to concentrate on football now -- which seems to be the case -- then he's at the right place with Wisconsin's pro-styleish offense. If nothing else happens, Wisconsin will have the deadliest play-action passing game in the country.

This is not Masoli II. Wilson will make a massive impact because he will be asked to do less in Wisconsin's offense. He is not a Cam Newton-like runner (who is?) but Wilson has enough mobility to make defenses account for him. Auburn never would have worked for Wilson because he plays too much like Newton.

No matter what he'd done, it would have been compared to a Heisman Trophy winner. Plus, the best he could have done is tie last year's accomplishments -- an undefeated national title season. That wasn't going to happen with or without Wilson.

I had to chuckle at Bielema's official statement. Wilson will "compete" for the starting quarterback position. You don't transfer -- and Wisconsin doesn't accept you -- if a quarterback controversy is about to break out.

The only thing that stops Wilson from becoming the Badgers' quarterback is a late hit from one of his teammates. So far, he's been pretty good at dodging those in live action. I like his chances of staying healthy and leading the Big Ten (ahem, 12) to its second straight Rose Bowl. At least.

you are an idiot.   wilson was the best quarterback in the ACC, bar none.  they won 9 games off a mediocre team.  this guy was special.  he will open up the running game even more now.  he is like a third running back and a much better passer than tolzien.    incredibe at QB,   especially at fantasy football.

its a rule that has been in the books for 55 years you idiot.   he graduated in three years so he can transfer if your team releases you.  i am a penn state boy.  this guy is a great athlete.  wisconsin will be hard to beat next year,  trust me.   by the way,  russell wilson was my quarterback in both my fantasy college teams and i WON BOTH LEAGUES.

Wisconsin just became the Big Ten favorite

ok here is  my problem with wisconsin,  i watched a team with superior talent on the line and in its backfield go against a  TCU defense that was  undersized and  fast. i watched wisconsin  run sweeps and pitches for  3 quarters negating all the advantage their massive line and back had.  finally somewhere the light went on and they started to pound off tackle and clay destroyed the TCU smaller  linebackers,  but as we all know it was too late, and what should of been one of the  greatest Wisconsin seasons ever ultimately became a  bitter disappointment.

so  being a  die hard wisconsin fan i am  jumping for joy to see wilson a  badger, but i also unfortunately know that  somehow someway  Chyrst and  Bielama will find a way to under acheive and  not  use the talent they have or  just plain get  out coached.   yes he can recruit but he had talent all over his team last year and he wont  recognize it til it gets  drafted in the pros. last year and again this  year he has wide receivers and  tight ends that are special and he won't use them. his  wide outs maybe run  4  routes and  never take advantage of their  height or speed.  wisconsins line pound true enough, but even the best running teams need to pass to  keep the  other team off balance.

lastly,  i am tired of this  10 degree nonsense about the  weather.   the  badgers season ends in late  november and they dont play another  game til january.   i cant even remember the last time we had snow on the  ground on thanksgiving more less a  below zero day for badger football.

the  weather doesnt dictate the  badger game plan it is their unimaginative coach and offensive coordinator that does.  hopefully they will use one if the most accurate college qbs in football  properly.  but i wont bet on it, sorry faithful he has  disappointed me too much,  please please please  prove me wrong  i  have been waitiing too long

Why does he get to transfer without sitting out a year?
He's already graduated from school.

As someone who has been to many NCST games and seen Wilson on the field I can say Wisconsin hit a home run landing him. He will without a doubt do great things for the Badgers he will have to adjust to the extrem cold ( Maryland was as close as he ever got  ) and better defenses of the Big 10 but he will do well and with a better line and recievers i predict a Oklahoma Vs Wisconsin NC game!

Great place to see a game ... Yes.  Fans are pretty bad though compared to most Big Ten Stadiums I have been too.  I live in Wisconsin but am not a Wisconsin fan.

Wisconsin just became the Big Ten favorite

There are many teams with a bad taste in their mouth from Wisconsin and their coach running up the score on them last season, while Bielema is a good coach, he is a classless bum as far as sportsmanship goes and other coaches and players won't forget what he has done in the past(what comes around goes around).Say what you may about the Vest and his lie,he never ran up scores with the  starters still in,the same can't be said for the Badgers.
No, there isn't. The only teams upset about it are OSU fans, and Minnesota fans. Minnesota fans hate Wisconsin regardless, and OSU fans were the only ones complaining about it, while multiple IU fans had no problem with it.

And Tressel never does it? Check again last season. OSU must've not been running up the score when they scored 73 on Eastern Michigan, or when against Minnesota they were throwing the ball with under 3 minutes left, and up by 42. You're "right" Tressel would never did that, but in reality he did when he wasn't too busy covering up for the violations his players committed.

im not just saying this because i am a pack fan but i think russel wilson is one of the smartest and maybe one of the best college football players in the game now.  he makes all the right decisions and is really smart under pressure.  he can run well and hardly ever throws interceptions(379 passes in a row without an int).  i wish he hadnt left but i hope he does really good at wisconsin
