Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

DALLAS -- Mike Leach says he was told the Big 12 would not credential him for the league's media days Tuesday, the same day as Texas Tech was scheduled to appear for interviews.

League spokesman Bob Burda explained that after XM asked for a credential on Sunday he suggested that it would have been "awkward" for Leach to appear Tuesday. He then asked Leach's producer if there were alternatives to Leach showing up in person at the Westin Galleria. Leach is already in town to promote his book Swing Your Sword and says he was supposed to do his XM satellite radio show onsite from the Westin Galleria, "until I was told otherwise."

That news about Leach was first tweeted by CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy on Monday.

Leach says he was told about the situation by XM producer Matt Fishman. When shown a text from Leach saying the former Tech coach was supposed to do the show from here, Fishman would not comment further.

Leach added, "He [Fishman] told me he heard from the conference ... They didn't want it to be awkward for Tech."

Burda said, "We didn't say he [Leach] couldn't come."

"I was told not to go," Leach said when reached by phone. "That's indisputable. I got a call yesterday and told not to go."

In a text, Leach said, " ... yesterday I was told the conference would not give me a credential because tech was going to be there."

When informed of Burda's comment, Leach texted, "That is not what I was told. You can ask Matt Fishman ... I was supposed to do the radio show on site there until I was told otherwise yesterday."

Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville and three players appeared at the media days Tuesday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Leach is in the process of suing the Texas Tech, ESPN and a P.R. firm hired by ESPN analyst Craig James. He was fired in December 2009 after a clash with the Tech administration.

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

It doesn't surprise me too much that Leach wasn't invited to "Big-12" Media days, since he was fired from his former head coach job at TTU and, to my knowledge is no longer involved in any way with the Big-12.  Why would anyone in those sets of circumstances in any league expect an open invite?  Now, my heart goes out to Mike Leach for the position he's in, trying desperately to find a niche somewhere in the CFB world.  But it seems to me he cannot reach back to TTU, and must look and move forward.  That's easy for me to way.  The last time I saw him interviewed on TV, he seemed somewhat lost and desperate, and I can't imagine being in that position or feeling that way.  Best in the future for Mike Leach.

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

Sorry but I thought replying to a post would put my post associated with it. My post of July 26 at 7:45pm was referring to Tommy Tuberville not Leach. Sorry.

I still think Vandy was the perfect place for Leach, but they were too cowardly to hire him.  They have long since accepted losing, and I fully expect that to continue with them.  I know a lot of people say that if you are not cheating, then you are not trying.  I hate that expression and do not believe it to be true, but Vandy does not even try, period.  I think Leach is to quirky for most major institutions, but Vandy is not that.  What did they have to lose by taking a chance>

Blackballed

This certainly makes suspiscions of an organized Blackballing of Leach appear to be a lot more likely than they were.  Passed over at Maryland for a coach who is barely over .500, then not give a credential to the Big 12 media days?  Someone is going to a lot of work to make sure Leach doesn't get to "play with the big boys" anymore.

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

Leach's biggest problem has always been that he was too honest and isn't afraid to tell the truth no matter who it effects.  Doing that scares a lot of people to death.  Im a fan of his and I see him doing big things whereever he coaches next.

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

I think the guys at XM stir the pot on this issue ...constantly. Obviously Mike Leach is a regular on the show so he is at liberty to say whatever he wants to. Having said that I am still irritated that that pompous jerk Craig James was at least in part responsible for ousting Mike from Texas Tech. However, I am not a member of the Mike Leach fan club. I think there was more than the incident with CJ kid that led to his being fired. He is arrogant, insulting and unbending. I have heard he constantly threw his players under the bus(not literally of course but you never know with him) which to me suggests he is a coward. You are the coach - you get the accolades but you also get the grief. Texas Tech is not immune either. They created a PR nightmare for the school. Maybe they should have just paid him instead of dragging all of this dirty laundry through the court system. They chose not to so they will have to live with the fallout. I dont think Mike Leach will coach again either. I cant imagine any parent wanting his/her son to play for him because even though it is he said/he saidICJ) he has a very volatile personality. Havent read the book but intend to. Has anyone else?

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

You know I have lost respect for the Texas Tech and the Big 12 more and more as this saga goes on.  What are they afraid of?  What he might ask a question and then they say "no comment."  I bet Craig James was an invited guest.  They are so afraid of what?  Leach already lost his coaching do you think he wants to lose this job too?  The only people with egg on their face in this is the Big 12.

Leach doesn't get credential to Big 12 media days

Lack of enthusiasm for recruiting was one of the big things that got him in hot water at Auburn, so there is a history there. He also was subject to criticizing his players where the media could pick up on it. Maybe he used it as motivation but that's hard on 18+ year old players. Good luck.

Probably for the best. They are parties to heated litigation. I understand the Big 12's decision to keep leach out and keep the focus on football, not that other thing.

Also... I keep hearing reports from people I know with connection to WSU football that Leach was recently in Pullman working with Coach Wulff. Not sure what the dynamic there is.

ALERT ... The Big Mac Blog, sportsblogs,star-telegram.com/mac.engel. &

Like I said, I-formation, because of no talent at WR.  Wow, this guy can't coach, he doesn't even trust his own team.  Can't recruit in West Texas ... D11 here ya'll come!
