No action taken by Missouri curators

kANSAS CITY, Mo. -- No action was taken Thursday by the University of Missouri board of curators as the school continues to consider a move to the SEC.

The curators emerged after an approximately 90-minute executive session without commenting. A university spokesman said there would be media availability Friday at 11 a.m. ET prior to another executive session. There are no indications whether the curators will have an announcement at that time.

The next step for the university would be to announce its formal withdrawl from the Big 12. Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton was given permission by the curators to seek new conference membership. A New York Times report earlier this week said Missouri's move to the SEC is "imminent."

wvHawk....no matter what... West Virginia will end up in good shape.   Either the BIG12 or SEC you'll be playing in next year.

I don't think you have a shot at the SEC....you would've gotten the invite when Syracuse and Pitt left.... since SEC would've been cleared of any legal suits.

Hope that Mizzou leaves...otherwise you're stuck in the BIGLEAST

Kookus:

Missouri does want to be a part of one of the greatest conferences in history - the SEC.Smile

Seriously though, I don't think Missouri wants to change conferences to become relevant. Only one or two teams a year per conference get to be relevent. But, if you don't have enough teams, then your conference is no longer relevent. That is the danger facing the Big 12 and the real concept of relevancy.

Oh, I suspect the Big 12 will survive. They can always add Tulsa and San Jose State, if no one else wants to join...

As a Texas Tech Alkum and Big 12 guy I hate this crap but completely understand why Missouri is probably going to leave. Every school in the Big 12 believes (in varying degrees) they are the equal of Texas and believes Texas treats everyone like that school is rally just another of Texas' bitches. The sad reality is that's true and as I told a Missouri friend of mine yesterday... whether one likes it or not... Texas is the 800 lb Gorilla in the room and theres just no getting around that reality.  They have far more money than everyone else and more importantly they have more business and political clout than any other school out there as well. That sucks and I've hated it for 53 years... but it is what it is. At Tech we've long adhered to the old adage... you keep friends close and your enemies closer and that's why some intersting things will come out of the shake up and new Big 12. Just wish Missouir was going to be a part of it as it's a quality instiution and they will be missed.

I am a Mizzou fan and I don't care what our record is against any of the SEC teams for one reason and one reason alone......look at when the games happened.  Want the answers?

Alabama - Mizzou is 2-1 against the Tide.  Last game?  1978 (Bama won)
Arkansas - Mizzou is 3-2.  Last two games were bowls (2003 Independence and 2008 Cotton)...last regular season game?  1963
Auburn - Mizzou won the only meeting.  The 1973 Sun Bowl
Florida - Mizzou won the only meeting.  The 1966 Sugar Bowl
Georgia - Georgia won the only meeting.  1960 Orange Bowl
Kentucky - Kentucky has won both meetings....Last one in 1968
LSU - Mizzou won the only meeting.....the 1978 Liberty Bowl
Ole Miss - Mizzou is 5-1.  They played a home and home in 2006 and 2007.  Before that they played 4 times in the 70s
Mississippi State - Mizzou won both meetings.  1981 and 1984
South Carolina - Mizzou won both meetings 2005 Independence Bowl and 1979 Hall of Fame Classic
Tennessee - Never played
Vanderbilt - Mizzou is 2-1-1.  The four meetings were recent.  1895, 1896, 1957, 1958.

So in my lifetime (May of 1979 to present)  Mizzou has played an SEC school eight times (one of the Ole Miss games was in late 1979) so those records hold absolutely no meaning whatsoever.  None of the current players played in any of the games (except MAYBE the 2008 Cotton).  Heck the players were not even born yet when most of the games happened.  So to say that this would be a good move for Mizzou or that they can compete based on THAT is seriously flawed logic.

Do I think it is a good move for Mizzou to go to the SEC?  Absolutely.  I think it will benefit the school and program in the long run.  I also think it will be a good move for the SEC as it will bring the St. Louis and Kansas City markets into the conference.  No, STL and KC are not Los Angeles or Chicago or even Dallas.....but they are not insignificant markets either.

Funny OK State fan.... Mizzou is the bad apple spoiling the bunch?   Wasn't OU and OkState trying to go to the PAC12 4 weeks ago???  Telling everyone else to kiss off...funny how the shoe is on the other foot.

Its also going to be funny when Mizzou ends OK State National Title hopes this weekend... OK State favored by 7 points = VEGAS IS BEGGING YOU TO TAKE THE POKES.... Mizzou wins by 10 points...and then we can stop hearing about how great Mike Gundy is.

Today the announcement will come that Mizzou will be asking for withdrawal papers from the Big12.

Oh, Alabama fan.... SEC doesn't want Mizzou??   Really?   50 million eyeballs in the current SEC....by adding A&M and Mizzou you add 30 million eyeballs....  I'd say thats expanding the SEC BRAND/MARKET.   AAU University... I know that Bama is not.   Only game in the state, powerful alumni (Walmart, where I'm sure you Alabama folk spend alot of time shopping at), facilities, and a TOP 25 FOOTBALL and BASKETBALL PROGRAM (Mizzou #25 in the first basketball rankings).

Yeah, why wouldn't the SEC want Mizzou?   Please tell me again schleprock.
