JoePa to end at 409

More than likely, any wins accumulated by Penn State interim coach Tom Bradley will be credited to him according to the NCAA.

That is an issue now that Joe Paterno and his 409 wins have gone to the sidelines. The NCAA typically leaves it up to the school on how to list wins when a coach leaves during a season but historically in firings, resignations and deaths, the succeeding coach gets credit.

“At some point we’ll reach out to the school just to check to make sure it’s Bradley,” said NCAA statistics director Jim Wright. “The last thing we want to do right now is check with the SID.”

The exception, of course, is vacated wins. Calhoun and Kentucky’s John Calipari made it to this year’s Final Four having vacated wins in the same year (1996) for NCAA improprieties during their watch.

Paterno was fired Wednesday owning the Division I record for wins. He passed Eddie Robinson this season. Bradley, Penn State's longtime defensive coordinator, will lead the Nittany Lions Saturday against Nebraska. Penn State has the possibility of playing five more games this season.

I care because Joe clearly was staying and covering up for the div I record of 409. In my mind all wins from 2002 to now need to be erased vacated cut out removed. The coverup had many reasons but this is minor. But if record holds history WILL remember all of the astrek stands for a Penn St will forever be a disgrace.

My thoughts exactly. I haven't seen any comments from the prosecuting office on this or questions asked. In 10 years, few will care about the moral asterisk nect to Paterno's record.

even if he was coaching the rest of this season, i doubt he will have gotten another win

Good point. Cornhuskers, Buckeyes and Badgers in the last three.

Maybe if he stayed he would win his bowl game to go out at 409.

They've been investigating these accusations for a couple of years
Try THIRTEEN YEARS.

1998 -- First police involvement. Penn State police and the Penn. Department of Public Warfare are contacted by the mother of an 11-year-old boy, who says Sandusky showered with her son and may have had inappropriate contact with him.

This means that AT LEAST as early as 1998, Paterno knew of allegations against Sandusky.
June 1, 1998 -- In an interview with investigators, Sandusky admits showering naked with the pre-teen. He admits that it was wrong, and promises not to do it again. No charges are filed, and the university police chief instructs that the case be closed.

1999 -- Sandusky retires from Penn State after coaching for 32 years. he remains a volunteer, and retains full access to the campus, football facilities, and The Second Mile camp grounds.

Why does Sandusky retire if he did nothing wrong? He was considered a great defensive coordinator in the prime of his career and the heir apparent to Paterno. Wouldn't Paterno have raised a stink if he thought Sandusky didn't do anything wrong or if there was no problem? No, the opposite is true. Paterno orchestrated this because HE KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM.

Paterno is part of the cover-up and he is the most powerful person involved - I don't care what the titles of the people involved are.

yea, all Joe did this season was sit in the press box and watch the games, but got credit for the victories.  Joe didn't do any coaching during the week either.

Really? How many practices did you attend this year?

Am I the only one that thinks it is very coincidental (suspicious) that the Pennsylvania law enforcement authorities waited until exactly the week after the Godfather central Pennsylvania, Don JoePa won his record setting 409th? They've been investigating these accusations for a couple of years and the grand jury testimony was taken almost a year ago, and then the arraignments occur and are precisely timed immediately following JoePa's record setter. Everything about this story stinks, and I wonder not only about who knew what and when at Penn State, but also, who knew what and when in law enforcement and how long was Sandusky allowed to continue his predatory acts - even after the reporting had finally occurred.
