Missouri's Pinkel reportedly gets DUI

Missouri coach Gary Pinkel reportedly got a DUI last night and it barely registers with me.

I barely care in these scandal-ridden days. There will be all kinds of questions raised about accountability and hypocrisy -- two of Pinkel's players were suspended for two games because of DUIs -- but I'm having a hard time being outraged. Sorry.

Pinkel has enough moral equity stored up at Missouri that he gets a pass from me on this. He's a good coach, a good guy and as far as I know a good father and husband. Mistakes are made. Let me qualify that: I do care in the sense that no one should get in a car and drive while impaired by alcohol. That's dangerous and thoughtless. Thank God he did no damage to property, himself or others.

If he is found guilty, Pinkel made a huge mistake. How, you might ask, does he discipline his players now that he has been cited? Good question, but he and the football program will figure it out. They will get over this. Pinkel will keep his job. He will be humbled. Life will go on at Missouri.

Once again, sorry. That's the way I feel. It's hard to have any sort of outrage left in the tank after what has gone on in college athletics this year. Maybe that's more sad, than wrong.

You are an idiot

That was in response to silver bullet
Care to share your opinion on the matter?  What should the AD do if his head coach is found guilty of driving while intoxicated?  How should he handle this situation when the head coach is the fourth person and second coach from his football program to recently be stopped for driving while intoxicated?  It would still be a cause for concern if this fourth person were a player, but this is the head coach were talking about.  The CEO of the football program.  What should he do?

And everything he is written is true...check out the KC Star article today written by a KU grad....take off your anti-Mizzou blinders!

Apfan, I'm not sure who you are responding to, but I am not anti-Mizzou.  I am merely pointing out Dodd's blatant hypocrisy and double-standards.  For several months, we Buckeye fans endured almost daily scathing articles from Dodd that ripped OSU to shreds.  Much of what he wrote was far from true, as he frequently propogated many mistruths.  But now that his Alma Mater is dealing with a little dirt, he's all for giving them a big fat pass.  Exposing Dodd for being a hypocritical HOMER is not anti-Mizzou in the least.  The truth is, I really could care less about Missouri's problems or Pinkel's mistake.

"You also speak out your arse about zero tolerance. It is absolutely legal to drink and then drive and I even do it myself."

"Forget limits on BAC. It’s just not acceptable to drink and drive, period." – Wendy Hamilton,  past President of MADD. "Lowering the legal [arrest] standard will be a deterrent for light drinkers as well as heavy drinkers. There is no safe blood alcohol level, and for that reason, responsible drinking and driving means no drinking and driving." – Katherine Prescott, past President of MADD "If you choose to drink, you should never drive. We will not tolerate drinking and driving — period." – Karolyn Nunnallee, past President of MADD

They have toned down the rhetoric in the past few years, however, many in the anti-drinking community are in favor of zero tolerance. And not sure what "test" you are taking, but a bac test via brethaylzer or having blood drawn isn't a test you can decide to pass or fail- the number is the number.

Seriously...have you NOT read the majority of his post...yes, he is a Mizzou grad, but he usually writes negative material towards MU.  Maybe you should worry about your 2-8 team and stop worrying about articles and sports writers that involve other teams.  And everything he is written is true...check out the KC Star article today written by a KU grad....take off your anti-Mizzou blinders!

Does he get a pass on the abysmal job he and his staff have done this year as they head toward SEC obscurity?

Hey Dodd  - I bet you would be preaching a different line if you were not a mizzou grad.  Take your black and gold blinders off, HOMER!  You are biased and unethical on this subject.  you should not be allowed to discuss mizzou on matters like these.

Of course he should get a pass- depending on what is bac was. Studies show that the overwhelming amount of accidents are caused by the distinct minority of drivers who are double the legal limit. The anti-drinking and driving organizations, after successfully curtailing real drunk drivers, found themselves without a mission. So they continue for zero-tolerance, which is a ridiculous and unneccessary effort. Aside, of course, from self-preservation for the MADD's of the world.
Obviously someone twice the legal limit is going to be more impaired than someone at the limit. However, those who are severily intoxicated tend to be the ones who get caught also. Rarely is someone arrested who blew under .16(or general vicinity) as the test are actually fairly easy to pass at the new legal limit. They were made for .10 not .08.

You also speak out your arse about zero tolerance. It is absolutely legal to drink and then drive and I even do it myself. If you have more than 2 drinks in an hours time(normal serving size) you probably don't need to drive home though as your body can't metabolize alcohol that quickly and it will effect your driving. Your vision will blur, response time slow, and coordination start to go away. Tolerance to alcohol can vary from person to person so some people under .08 aren't in any shape to drive, while others could be close to twice the legal limit and hardly give any clues at all. Either way over .08 is illegal in and of itself regardless of tolerance.

I don't always agree with the extreme nature of organizations like MADD either, but to act like they have gotten rid of the drunk driver problem and now prey on the innocent is ignorant at best.

Being a Mizzou fan, I like the guy but he does not need a pass. Being a leader he should use the same judgement as I do as being a father, that when he comes to driving after drinking that unless you have only had a couple over a long period of time then you don't even consider driving.  But before we rush to judge lets see what the BAC was- In Missouri "the DWI" charge is typically a charge for operating a vehcile in an intoxicated state" wheras their BAC charge is having the proof of operating above.08 BAC.

Dodd you sound clueless and biased with this article.  This man leads a football team and represents a university, getting a DUI is not only a big deal, but something that reflects poorly on the university and sets an awful example for his players.  The fact that "he get's a pass" from you doesn't surprise me, you are out of touch and wearing rose colored glasses for all things Mizzu.

Why you still have a job with CBS is beyond me.  Had this been any other program you'd be calling for the coaches head.  Thankfully I stopped reading the majority of your work several years ago, but saw this posted on Twitter and was annoyed enough to leave a comment.

Who said he gets a pass. I said I'm having trouble feeling outrage. Did you read the post?
