Arizona replaces Sgt. Hulka with ... Rich Rod

CBS Sports Network loses an analyst. Arizona gets a future.

That’s my first impression after hearing that Rich Rodriguez is taking the Arizona job. Just about the perfect hire. Rich Rod is hungry and wants to prove himself after the Michigan detour. Arizona needs to be revitalized. Rodriguez needs a job.

In short, Rich Rodriguez fits in Tucson. It is a laidback town, one of those big-little towns that isn’t pretentious. Larger than Morgantown, not as tradition-bound as Ann Arbor. In terms of sideline demeanor, Rodriguez is the antithesis of Mike Stoops. Arizona just traded Sgt. Hulka for this guy.

That’s motivation.

Let’s be honest: Both sides needed rejuvenation. The Michigan thing just didn’t work out. Stoops had worn out his welcome. This just made Arizona matter again.

You can believe Rich Rod will attract top quarterbacks. No word on who he’ll get as defensive coordinator, but you can be sure Wildcat football will be exciting again. This is a new era in the Pac-12 and for the only team in the old Pac-10 never to play in the Rose Bowl, this is a home run.

Rich Rod should take over at CAL. Jeff Tedford is a joke and if Aaron Rodgers had not won last year's Super Bowl Tedford would have been fired.

What are you talking about? We loved Rich Rod in Columbus, in three years at scUM we beat them by about eighty points. We wish he was still there instead of Coach Joke. If Coach Joke was driving the scUM bus to play the Buckeyes he would end up in Athens, home of the Ohio University Bobcats!

God Bless Rich Rod.  As bad as he has failed at Michigan, he could be a perfect fit in the what-do-you-mean-by-playing-defense

? league over there.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Every college football expert or coach who has commented said he is an exceptional coach and a great hire. Sounds like the disgruntled comments are from fans from ASU, Ohio St or Michigan. He will have all the support he needs at Arizona and will be running downhill....as opposed to fighting an uphill battle at Mich.

Quite a few Wildcat fans don't agree with this hire but he was the one who accepted. UofA fans will have to ask themselves why their preferences turned the job down.

Richrod was a bad fit at Michigan,  because UM is a school that usually tries to stay within the rules.....he is a good coach and Arizona will be an improved team,  but they are headed for an NCAA investigation at some point in the future.  Remember once the NCAA tags you as someone who crosses the line, you are in their sights forever.

Living in Tucson, I know how loyal the Wildcat fanbase is. If Rich- Rod can get any kind of a winning program going, he will have the fans packing the stadium. They are putting about 52,000 in the seats now, with a losing team. The  Sun Devils up the road are getting around 47,000 and they have been winning. This is who I thought they would bring in. He will have time to put his schem in, since the fans have been used to waiting, for a wining team the last 10 yrs or so. I also think this is a good hire. At least he will get them back to the winning side of the ledger.
