Weis to Kansas? Can't see it

Charlie Weis’ name has been mentioned for the Kansas job, which is interesting.

The man is highly thought of in the area. He made Matt Cassel an All-Pro in his one year with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City won the AFC West and led the NFL in rushing with Weis as offensive coordinator. Weis was also determined to leave the area after one season because he and his wife had enough because of disturbing incidents involving their daughter.

Weis made the move to Florida to be with his son Charlie Jr. and to provide a better setting for that special needs daughter, Hannah. I don’t think he comes back to Kansas to be a head coach. Kansas has less of an infrastructure than Notre Dame and Weis went to two BCS bowls with the Irish.

I might be totally wrong. Kansas may have spoken extensively with Weis. Maybe he wants to get back into college head coaching in the worst way. He would be that sexy hire and get KU football back on the map. It’s hard to remember but the Jayhawks were national championship contenders in 2007.

Florida took a downturn in 2011 with Weis as offensive coordinator but that’s all it was – a downturn. And don’t forget the growing possibility that Urban Meyer didn’t exactly leave the cupboard stocked.

As of now, Weis isn’t going anywhere because his focus remains where it should be – his family.

Meanwhile, as of now …

Arizona State: With June Jones apparently out of the picture, the Sun Devils are reportedly turning their attention to Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox, Oregon offensive coordinator Jim Helfrich and 49ers assistant Jim Leavitt. Still can’t understand why Sumlin was out of the mix early. Said it was his dream job.

UCLA: An LA Times report says the Bruins are centering on Jim Mora Jr.

Illinois: The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Illini like Toledo’s Tim Beckman.

Kansas: Completely silent. The Kansas City Star lists 11 candidates.

Weis to Kansas? Can't see it

I get what Dodd is saying about this hire, but I still think it's funny as hell to see "Weis" and "sexy" in the same sentence. Perhaps to Wilma Flintstone ...

Kansas courting Charlie Weis, that is interesting. It certainly reveals the Jayhawk's affinity to hire abnormally large men for head coaches. But after reading about the incidents that happened with his daughter Hannah, I think that Dodd is correct in assuming that Weis is going to stay clear of that area.

Assuming he would take the job, I don't think Kansas would benefit from it. Charlie's problem at Notre Dame was he couldn't win with his recruits. His BCS berths were achieved with the recruits that were drafted by the coaching staff led by Ty Willingham. After Brady Quinn was gone, Jimmy Clausen did not quite fill his shoes. That being said, how can he be expected to build a BCS contender out of Kansas, who has won only 5 games in the last two seasons?

Charlie Weis has always been at his best when he's been an offensive coordinator. I now understand why he moved on to Florida, but yet his first season with Muschamp was certainly one the most disappointing things this year.

Weis to Kansas? Can't see it

You have to love a guy who insults people for insulting people. Apparently even a 5 year old like me understands irony, while it clearly escapes the understanding of Mr. Sensitve in WA. By the way, nice play of the race card in a place where it has no relevance. Since you tried to characterize me (correctly I'm sure) as a 5 year old, I'll characterize you as a nerdy 30 somthing white guy who feels guilty that he's white and therefore feels compelled to turn every negative comment into an insult or better yet as in this case an "insult in waiting" against blacks. Well done sir. You have convinced me that my 5 year old fat humor was actually just my way of hiding my latent desire to insult black people. It's like you see into my soul.....

A couple of real moral winners on the board. Disparaging comments about his weight. What are you guys 5 years old. Too bad he isn't black also. You could have really had some fun.

That might pose a problem for air travel to games.  Everyone would be forced to bring one carryon only, and only a Jumbo Jet would suffice.

Weis to Kansas? Can't see it

I would like to see Florida keep Weis and hire Ralph "the Fridge" Freidgen (ex Maryland coach) and Mark Mangino (ex KU coach) and have the fattest (and I mean circus freak fat) coaching staff in the NCAA. Hey, if you cannot win national championships (or even the SEC East) let's at least set a Guiness world record for heaviest combined weight coaching staff in college football history. Can you imagine the great signs and posters we'd say at the games? I used to love posters at KU that people would bring that said, "Mangino will eat your babies!" - a reference to "Fat Ba$tard" from Austin Powers of course. At least Florida fans would have something to look forward to every week.
